Metroid Prime: Federation Force Amiibo Support Revealed

It should never have been linked to the Metroid franchise and it probably should have been a ten dollars eshop title. It wouldn't have been hated for sure but it'd probably have been received with as much interest and enthusiasm as Codename: STEAM anyway. And CS actually had somehow unique artstyle and gameplay compared to that. lt's just a trainwreck all around.
Well we don't know context. Perhaps theirs story hints or something in this game. The point is people overreacted way too much. The harassment they received was terrible.

For her suit, though?

She's had the Hourglass design for a long time.

I think all of the relevant Samus posts have been made, so I won't make another one, so I guess we'll just wait until the next mainline title comes out. Cuz uh right now this game is WHAT-EVER

Hold on a second!

Metroid Prime Federation Forces will not support Samus and/or ZSS Amiibos? For real!?

What the fuck is going on with this game, Nintendo!?

I must be missing something right? Why would Nintendo not use Samus as an example? This makes no sense.

It will

Assuming you're going to buy it.

Which, I don't understand why anyone would.
I'm not playing this game.

Samus is suppose to be in the game apprently. Don't know if she's playable tho

I guess no matter what happens people will hate this game, even if decent. I think it should've been called prime hunters. Might have been received slightly better...slightly.

I think at least the initial reactions would have been significantly better if they didn't go for an SD art style...

Indeed. I really wonder why though.

Why should they. The game could be the best one ever made and it would still earn tons of condescending comments from people who just need a reason to shit on something. It´s done in the west, sell it on word of mouth and hope for the best, any PR just has a negative effect now.

They did it to themselves. After 5 years of nothing, announce a chibi-looking multiplayer spin-off on the 3DS that looks like a DS game. And they expected it to be adored. So much so that they doubled down on it and got destroyed AGAIN to the point where they had to turn off ratings for it on youtube.

Visor colors? Quite the lackluster unlock but it's better than nothing and I suppose it makes ssnse because Blast Ball is team based.

The 2 samus skins look pretty great though. If I had N3DS I would finally have a good use for my Samus amiibo.

It's a Metroid first-person shooter. Japan isn't going to touch it and never will. Frankly, if "it's done in the west", it's dead on arrival.

So what? Buy it or leave it.
"Gamers" downvoting stuff on youtube and crying on social media about how game x is not the game z they wanted are the worst. Equal to that GG nonsense.

The Prime series is a spinoff of the mainline games.
Its not a spinoff. At least it wasn't originally. Nintendo didn't sideline the Prime series until Sakamoto decided to make Other fucking M.

Three of the best games in the series got sidelined so Sakamoto's new version of this weak, pathetic Samus could somewhat fit in the timeline.

How's that for a shitty exchange? Get rid of Metroid Prime and make way for Other M.

Marvelous.

Next Level :(

Would of rather they'd be working on a new Punch-Out!! or something.

Um, no, Nintendo has always seen Metroid as two different series: The "mainline games" produced by Sakamoto, and the Prime series produced by Tanabe.

Like, look how in Smash Bros, Samus's powersuit design has always been based on the latest R&D1/Sakamoto Metroid game (Super in 64/Melee, Zero Mission in Brawl, and Other M in Smash 4), and not the Prime games. That kinda shows their views on the series, really.

This game would probably be about, say, 300% better received? if it didn't have the words "Metroid Prime" in-front of it.

I guess NCL thinks there may be some hope for the game in Japan due to the co-op focus, but that's guaranteed to be mistaken.

I feel bad for Next Level Games. They're a great studio that drew a short stick for a project that is completely tone deaf from what fans of the series wanted. Nintendo SPD fucked up and I say that as a person willing to give the game a chance.

I mean, the execution of the idea looks dreadful, so its hard to feel too sorry for them.

The backlash wouldn't be so heavy if the game looked in any way fun or redeeming. The gameplay in all videos so far has looked garbage-tier. This game without the Metroid IP wouldn't even have a two-page thread on gaf.

Fully expect a backlash-backlash after release though.

Edit:

Haha, no. It wouldn't be talked about period because of how utterly terrible and forgettable it looks. Although you could argue that would be a better reception, I guess.

Think atleast one person trolled on gamefaqs claiming metroid prime series needs mario themed visors, and now that reality is here

The Prime series is a spinoff of the mainline games.
Sure.

It also was the face of Metroid for nearly a decade, with Metroid Prime being the most commercially successful game since the series began and one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time.

When people say "they don't want a spinoff", they're not talking about spinoffs like Metroid Prime that advance the series in innovative and awe-inspiring directions. They're talking about games like Federation Force.

They were always conceived as side stories whereas the Sakamoto ones were always intended as the main ones. This never changed.

Is it the execution? It seems like there's really not much you can do with a concept that's so antithetical to what the series is known for other than carrying it to term.

If it winds up being a bad game, I really don't think it will be because NLG didn't do enough.

The Prime series is a spinoff of the mainline games.

You're right, but really we just want games that at least resemble some of the older ones, how many years has it been? Honestly what does this game have to do with Metroid besides the fact that it has the name?

Anything is better than fans actively hating and some telling the publisher to cancel it.

Seems weird that we didn't hear about this last week...

Not really. The know what kind of shit storm it would have caused after the last two times they decided to talk about it. The reveal and then the re-reveal both went horribly. There is no way Nintendo of America doesn't know how how badly this has been handled by now. Breath of the Wild was extremely well received by everyone at E3. However not even that would have stopped another backlash toward Federation Force. The only thing that would have not caused that reaction would be if the game they showed off didn't look like Federation Force.

Edit:

I still do believe the idea behind the game is sound. Expanding it focus on the Federation and the Space Pirates is good and what the franchise needs. Not every game has to have Samus. How they've done that with this game and how it looks is the massive problem. I continue to believe this co-op focus is Nintendo somehow trying to chase that Monster Hunter money with a product that's aimed at no one because it either doesn't interest people or it pisses Metroid fans off.
