Reviews are all over the place, I did really enjoy Tri Force Heroes but the idea of bite sized Metroid doesn't seem as appealing.
There's only 9 reviews averaged for that score so it's a little premature to act like it's going to be an accurate representation of all reviews when the rest come in too.

can anyone confirm if the actual metroid prime has anything to do with metroid prime: federation force? and if so, how??
galactic fed soldiers cant do crap, they cant even develop a plasma beam that takes less than a million hours to charge. samus can put up a fight because of the chozo tech, but the idea that galactic federation goons can even hope to survive in the presence of metroid prime is absurd
ive been salty about this for a long time. that name really is a crime; thats such a high bar that was immediately missed purely by the game being multiplayer focused, and i guess also by kinda looking like garbage for babies

So I guess that God Hand, Nier, and countless other hidden gems are not considered good due to some mixed reviews from "pro" critics.
I'm not surprised about such primitive attitudes about game scores, but it is still remains disappointing to see, especially on this website.
Those scores were pretty much expected after initial showings, previews, and the complete lack of promotion by Nintendo (they pretty much attempted to hide it in some grave). Still seems to have turned out better than Mario Tennis for Wii U.
Might be fun in local multiplayer, but with no download play it's unlikely I'll have a chance to try. Will be interesting to see if the online play is more stable than in Blast Ball. For 10 Euros or less I'll look into this down the line..

God Hand is very well in the mid 70s and Nier is an extremely rare example of a great/cult title below the 70s, certainly far from one out of ,,countless others".
The ,,attitude" about scores has pretty much become a selfulfilling prophecy a long time ago. Most games below 70 really are shit now, because reviewers adapted the 7-10 thinking too.
I disagree. Nintendo Life just gives very high scores to pretty much any game, not just Nintendo titles:

really, because metroid prime is literally metroid prime because of metroid prime. like, metroid prime itself is a tallon IV metroid all jacked up on phazon; thats what the game is about. in subsequent metroid primes, it always makes an appearance as dark samus, and its just a big part of the whole thing
if metroid prime doesnt exist in metroid prime: federation force, i feel like thats proof that nintendo has fully lost touch. from the outside (my perspective), it just looks like nintendo is jumping on the bandwagon of piggybacking on the name of a treasured IP to sell copies, whether or not it alienates dedicated fans of the iconic series
im holding out hope because nintendo waited to bring down the hammer on AM2R and pokemon uranium until they were released to the internet and officially unstoppable (when they could have killed them whenever they wanted), but ugh, "running on fumes" cant be a more accurate way of describing how i feel about nintendos status right now

Sounds like a really average game that's not worth picking up unless you only game on Nintendo hardware and are starved for shooters.
Nier battle system left much to be desired though.

I don't plan on playing it anytime soon, but it seems good for people who have the time to play with others locally or online.
Why are you and others so dead-set on the game being bad without at least hearing from regular gamers or experiencing it yourself? Those two games I mentioned are considered good by most people who actually played them. Did you even try them? It doesn't sound like it.
I didn't have a chance to try those particular titles, but there are some average scored games that I enjoyed a lot.

As someone who loves NieR, I'm going to be honest: If not for the incredible music and interesting plot, I don't think I would have played it to completion + gotten the other endings. It's totally deserving of the scores it received, but those of us who really like it place more value on its good points and can look past the more negative aspects. Deadly Premonition is another example of this. Then there are games that are simply "average" or "okay" without any compelling aspects. I don't think anyone would be wrong to dislike either of those two games; I can see and admit to their faults.

I think Nier is incredible but I don't think it was reviewed unfairly. If I had to slap a number on it and evaluate it based on its constituent parts I probably wouldn't land far from the critical consensus. Nier is an almost unreviewable game
(at least by the widely accepted standards)
I feel fairly confident in saying that Federation Force doesn't have that problem.

Haven't they said so themselves? Last year was the "spin-off" year for many of their franchises, possibly this is still a part of it.
Just based on the Wii U games from the last few months, they seem to be either in line or a bit less critical on average. But from what I see, Nintendo Life gives rather high ratings to most titles, regardless of whether it's a Nintendo title or not. Not familiar with NWR myself.

I don't say it's bad. But there's nothing indicating that it's a really good title, as you suggested based on the reviews. The general consensus - as of now - suggests that the game is pretty mixed, which made your statement ("looks like it's a good title") absolutely baffling as that couldn't really be inferred from the reviews at hand.
By what metric are the two games you mentioned considered good by the majority of people who played them? Your opinion? Your feeling?

Considering what Nintendo has done with Metroid, I found this unforgivable. The only way to solve this is by announcing a new real 2D or 3D Metroid game for NX in the console's announcement, or in E3 2017 the latest.
As far as I can tell, the game seems to have a few of the same problems that I had with Peace Walker.
-Wholly unremarkable combat mechanics that can't begin to measure up to the genre's best.
-Too much of a defined endpoint for rewards and gear, making the desire to re-run missions virtually non-existent.
-A critical lack of loot variety that makes the collection aspect very minimal, i.e. there's clearly better equipment to have over others, so no real sense to experiment with loadouts.
It does seem like this game does have the advantage of being mercifully shorter and boasts and impressive amount of variety in all of its missions (which seems to be something that every review agrees with, good, bad or indifferent otherwise), but I think the puzzle-solving focus does ensure shorter legs versus something even like Peace Walker's Bantam death march of repeated content, since there's only so many ways you can solve a ball juggling maze and not question the value in doing it yet again. I know it's an unfair comparison, but with MHG being just over a month old and featuring thousands of possible equipment combinations and having the roster of content in order to get it to back it all up, it's hard to swallow this game being the same price when it can't possibly have the same long term value. I think it's safe to say I'll pass on this, but that's because it's simply not what I want out of a co-op experience that is driven by the desire to re-run content for meaningful loot.

You know that recent Nintendo problem of them releasing 2 extremely similar games close together? Well, this is Triforce Heroes for Metroid. Neither of which are great, and basically share the same problems.

That's not actually what I said. I did say that it did turn out good/alright since it looked really bad when the reveal trailer came out. I've read enough text of these official reviews to see that this will be a good game for some people. It has had 3 really negative reviews total, and one of them is from IGN which shouldn't be taken seriously whether they praise or slam a game.
Don't take it too personal, but your reading comprehension has been off in this thread. You basically put words in my mouth, and that kind of annoyed me.
Also, people liked Nier enough in order for Taro Yako to create Nier Automata. Negative praise toward Nier and God Hand is in the minority. I admit that those titles may not have been the best comparison, but Code Name S.T.E.A.M is a game that I like a lot and it has a high user review average.
I still stand by the fact that there are lots of gems with these types of scores across every gaming system. That's the end of my argument.

I mean, from what I can tell it basically controls like Metroid Prime, and has the same movement and shooting mechanics.
But no exploration and Metroidvania elements. Those are the core of Metroid games, not the controls.
It's even weird to see people saying that a 3D Metroid game is a Prime game, just because it's in 3D. We have mentioned above already why this is not even a Prime game.

That logic is a bit daft. It's a prime game because that's the branding for all the games that have a behind the visor viewpoint and the associated gameplay, not because of the one boss fight called metroid prime in the first game (who them took the phazon suit to be dark samus in 2/3).
Metroid prime/dark samus and phazon were completely exterminated by samus at the end of prime 3. By that logic, there can never be a prime game again, ever.
That weird logic is nonsense. There can be a new 3D Metroid game with the same mechanics. It does not make any sense calling a Metroid game Prime just because it's in 3D, when the Phazon and Dark Samus aren't there, and they are the main plot of the Trilogy.
Yeah, that's why it's a spinoff and not a main series game. Hence the "Federation Force" in the name. Like Metroid Prime Pinball. Or Link's Crossbow Training. Or Mario Kart.
By Nintendo's well-established spinoff naming conventions, Federation Force is closer to Metroid Prime than any of their other franchises.

phazon played a big role in the metroid prime trilogy, and the premise is what really made it metroid prime. slapping prime on whatever does a disservice to the original prime games; they had a good reason for being called what they were. the game made a huge leap from 2D to 3D and defined a new approach to the metroid formula, but just because you attrubite that leap to metroid prime doesnt mean that the "prime" title should apply to all first-person metroid games
you could easily call it "metroid: federation force" and have it be a real spinoff, but attaching "prime" to the title is comparing it to the trilogy, with is just nonsense

Definitely a skip for me since it apparently is extra terrible solo. No interest in co-op with randoms, especially on a Nintendo platform.
Can't decide if I should wait or jump on this.

To be fair though, it clearly has issues from what I saw of it online but I really like the gameplay released so far. It blends what I like from the Prime games with a more limited mission-based structure & new art style.
People who are angry at this game for 'not being a proper Metroid' should be happy knowing a proper Metroid-like game is coming to the Wii U next month (Axiom Verge) and we can go back and play the older Metroid games for the time being. I completely get the bile toward Nintendo for not managing the Metroid IP better but don't let that sour what could be a really fun game
