Another productive night, well, if you are a Metroid fan.
Firstly, from the opendir archive of Andrew "Android" Jones, major conceptual artist for the Metroid Prime trilogy, we have this remarkable image. It was seperated from the concept art of creatures that made it into the game.
Its filenamed motherBxyflat.jpg.
The brain and eye(s), and the comparison image of Samus on the right for scale, suggests they may have toyed with idea of including Mother Brain in the game at some point. The blue and orange remind me of the Phazon crater, and certainly echo what happens at the end of Metroid Prime 3. The filename mother and the Zero-Mission like eyeball suggest its not an Aurora Unit but Mother Brain itself.
Now, this next one is a bit of an oddity, it was buried in a very old portfolio website of Sammy Hall - who is still working at Retro and was credited in DKC:R.
I'm not sure what game he was concieved to appear in, if any.
Bonus image from the same artist: What appears to be an early concept for a federation trooper:
Note how the armour is based on Samus's design, but bulkier and probably less advanced.
I know with the Metroid 1.5 thread I could be seen as spamming the forum, I felt that these two Metroid characters were so iconic that they were worth a thread of their own.
