Metroid Series: What ever happened to Kraid?

I have to ask, what ever happened to Kraid? I mean he and Ridley were two of the staples in the Metroid series, along with Mother Brain. Now Ridley has been in every Metroid series game, and even Mother Brain (well her "species") has made a return in Metroid Prime 3.

Where the hell has Kraid been since Super Metroid? I mean I see they actually planned to have a Meta Kraid (phazon infused?) of sorts in Metroid Prime, even had the finished model. Why didnt they include it? Also Kraid's theme was one of the creepiest themes to be born of the Metroid series...would've been insane to fight the guy in first person.

I just really hope the next Metroid series game (hopefully on the Wii) brings the big guy back.

He was supposed to be in it, but they had to meet deadlines and such so he got cut.

As for why he hasn't been in anything since, no clue.

I really don't like the chrome-dome Prime design, but it is a shame they seem to have abandoned him. Doesn't make any sense that they didn't use him for free nostalgia points in the sequels.

I think that it would be hard as fuck to make the Kraid bossfight enjoyable in first person. If you remember the original, even in 2D it was quite difficult to jump on/over those stomach thingies, and then time the missiles right. It probably felt a bit clunky to play so they axed it in MP1 and didn't consider bringing him back.

Maybe Retro will insert the boss battle in the re-release for Wii!
Yeah, right.

Would be awesome.

Ridley wasn't in Metroid 2 and Metroid Prime 2.

Really? I knew that for Metroid Prime 2, didnt for Metroid 2. Kinda wish they'd remake Metroid 2 for the DS or Wii. Thats the one Metroid game I missed.

The Prime series takes place before all of that.

I realize that, but I'm hoping the next Metroid game isn't taking us back in time again. It's time to see what happens after Fusion.

I Dread them thinking about going back in time again.

Isnt there a fan made remake (not SR388)?

Honestly, I don't care when it happens in the timeline at this point, I just wanna see a 2D Metroid on the DS.

Might've been easy. I mean arm swipes could be dodged, maybe a grab attack in which you'd have to shoot rapidly to break free (like MP3's first Ridley fight). As for the stomach claw shots, just treat em as missles that you'd have to side dodge. They could get stuck in the ground and then burrow under the ground to clear the field. Afterwards, have em regenerate.

I could see it...but not sure if they would've pulled it off like that. Though i would've liked to hear a kick ass theme remix.

Let's just say he grew a little too big for his britches.

... Seriously, he's huge. They can't keep lugging him around all over the place.

Probably why they stuck his ass in the phazon mines :lol

I miss Kraid..my favourite Metroid boss..got pretty tired of Ridley, it's in every f'n metroid game:lol

gimme back Kraid!!

After reading about the extra content in the Jungle Beat wiimake, im sure they could work something out for Metroid Prime 1 and 2.

He should have appeared on the Prime games. Hopefully they make a new 2D Metroid with him as a boss.

Kraid needs to come back. I've always thought it would be interesting if they did a 3D Kraid battle more like a level than a one-on-one encounter, kind of like the tentacles from the original Half-Life. It's hard to make a 3D, first-person battle work well when you're facing off with something so much bigger than you. Using the environment and other things to take him out would work really well, fit in with the Metroid series, and still be fun.

If they could make the Metroid Prime battle work (before its true form with the great music) i'm sure they could work something out with Kraid.

Slightly OT, My brother nicked named him Phil Boss >.>. Phil was this guy in college that could never beat Kraid no matter how hard he tried. Thus in turn, that was the name for him for him the longest I've know.
Apart from that, After passing Phil ( the dead guy to see before you get to the boss door ), you fill up Kraid with 4 super missles, kill him dead.

I would love to see Phil Boss come back D:, maybe meta phil boss, with missile spikes?

Kraid was last seen chasing Samus on the U.S.S. Dread but, after wandering into the Nintendo Triangle, was never seen again.

And we're off!

Yeah, the next Metroid game should only be made for Splorgenborg!

Seriously, this "And away we go" meme needs to be banned. It contributes nothing to the conversation and isn't witty in any way.

I'm all for bringing back Kraid. His appearance in Melee was amazing and so was his sprite in Zero Mission. He definitely makes for one epic encounter.

Whatever happened with Dread anyway? Was it actually a title registered by Nintendo, just something that was rumored, or both?

I love the Little Shop of Horrors look. Would've been great to have Kraid in Prime; I think for a lot of gamers he's like an old friend. And Ridley without Kraid is like Oreos without milk. :(

Wasn't there a scan in MP1 that said Kraid was being revived off-planet? Yet more evidence of his near-Primetime debut. I always expected him to show up in one of the sequels. How sweet that would've been to put Kraid in MP3 as the boss of Elysia instead of that fun-but-forgettable Helios.

Still, be thankful we at least have the model. I bet that for every unused Nintendo model that surfaces -- MP1 Kraid, TP Sheik (as seen in Brawl) -- there's a hundred more that'll never see the light of day.

I like this idea. Kind of like the Colossus at the begining of God of War II. He is pretty godzilla like, he should get the giant monster treatment.

Apparently it was on Nintendo's E3 list and actually existed. But then it went all vaporware on us before E3 even started! :/

I'd like to see Kraid again too, and it would be awesome if they worked his music in somehow. I'd also like to see him get his green fur back

That design is fucking terrible, like he's some kind of short bus version of kraid. bring him back but not that design.

Kraid was always my favorite boss in Metroid. When I was a kid, my AOL screen name was "Kraidman" (Would have been straight up Kraid, but it was taken). I would love to see Kraid make a comeback at some point.

But not this model, though. Kraid doesn't need all those eyes...

First off, the reason why Kraid couldn't make it into Metroid Prime 1 was due to time constraints. If I remember correctly, he was supposed to be the main boss of either the Phazon Mines or Magmoor Caverns* who you fought for the Plasma Beam. They scrapped this idea as well as a few others (item progression, a second escape scenario in the Impact Crater after defeating Metroid Prime, etc.) in order to meet the deadline given to them.

Secondly, Kraid needs more spotlight time dammit. It sucks that they couldn't round him up and get him a spot in Metroid Prime 3. Moengar's fun as a refrence, but Kraid would have made my year. Here's another
hopelessly stupid
optimist praying that they can work him into the Metroid Prime re-release on Wii though.

Also, Kraid's Lair is one of the best video game compositions ever. Fact. :lol

*I strongly believe it wasn't here though. I'll read up and find out more for ya.

Also, kinda random and maybe even against the focus of this thread, but was it ever hinted at that Ridley was supposed to be in Prime 2?

IF he even made it into the Prime series, how to aproach the battle itself would take some time to think up.

This is true, but then again, Retro created Quadraxis, one of the best bosses in concept and execution, ever. I'd put faith in them to do even better for a series mainstay like Kraid. This is all if they do it of course... >.>'

Clearly Kraid had the class to refuse to participate in such a sham and decided to simply retire with dignity. Who would blame him seeing that hideous mockup?

I blame AniHawk for making me believe that Kraid was in Metroid Prime 3... :(

I was severely disappointed by that... and other things in that game.

Seriously. The guys at Retro very much knew what they were doing with the Prime games.

And yes, the Quadraxis battle was one of the best battles I've ever experienced in the game. Masterful boss design, there.

I don't want to see the same old characters rehashed into every game just so someone can jizz over the 3d modelling. Nintendo has enough of this as it is.That design was atrocious anyway and should be buried knee deep in excrement.

The only official confirmation was in Nintendo Power when they had a list of titles Nintendo would show at E3. That was the last time they ever mentioned it (except for the joke reference it Metroid Prime 3: Corruption).

Man that model looks badass. I wonder what supposedly happened to his head?
Ridley had one too many and Kraid didn't have enough sense to not get into the car with him.

he was supposed to be in Metroid Prime 1, i even saw pictures of him, but they took him out due to time constraints! :(

i hope he makes it into the new none Prime series.

Well, Kraid did show up in Super Metroid, which takes place chronologically after the Prime series.
