MEXICO 5 - 0 USA - "Who is your daddy?"

I agree with the point about Mexican-Americans not cheering for America. It's horseshit. You can't cheer against your home team, especially if you are a born native citizen of that country. I mean, how ridiculous would I look and sound if I went around saying "I'm English" and cheered for the English team against the team of my native country (America)? England can eat a dick for all I care.

I was born here in the US but lived in Mexico for my first 10 years, all my family is Mexican and lives there, I root for a Mexican team over the US any day. I've lived in the US for 14 years now by the way.

different perspective.

I really don't understand this logic and it pisses me off (no offense) that people would even care who they root for. I think it all comes down to major patriotism. :\

I think its just a prevalent part of American sports fandom. Bandwagoning is rampant and people are called out just as regularly in US leagues, especially if they support an out of town rival to a local team, regardless of sport. It isn't a surprise to me there's a vocal minority angry at the lack of home team support.

International soccer is the ultimate trolling sports topic for Americans. If we win, we troll the shit out of the Europeans/South Americans who actually care about the sport. If we lose, who cares, it's just soccer :lol

Personally, I'll never be able to follow soccer like I follow football until they eliminate flopping/diving of any sort. I also don't get the "the whole world likes soccer, so it's a better sport" argument. A large portion of the world once thought the Earth was the center of the universe, guess that makes it true, huh? Besides, there'll never be a "winner" in this argument (unless the US starts dominating soccer like it does other international sports), so it's pointless to argue about it.

Yes he was, and yes he is. I think the guy is a POS human being.
However, he was also an absolutely incredible player who deserves every bit of praise for his talents.

Drug cheats and rule-breakers don't deserve fucking praise.

Whatever. Plenty of people here cheer for other countries (like Italy) in the WC and they are born here or in Canadia. Only Hispanics get flak because they should be grateful we even let them stay in our country, amirite?

More than likely some of the Americans in here saying "lulz soccer sux, it's fer faggots!" are also among those who were cheering on the U.S. side that beat Spain and nearly beat Brazil in the Confederations Cup earlier this year.

Good God, what a Fvcked up mess. There needs to be some rules. All I see is savagery, not athleticism.
The tackles where the player is lifted and head gets driven into the ground are illegal, You'll be yellow or red carded and can expect a trip to disciplinary panel.

As someone who has respect for the country as a student of the culture, people, and language of Mexico, I am offended by this implication of racism. You know I'm one of the good ones, Rewrite! It's not a cultural philosophy, it's my philosophy on sports. You stick to the team closest to where you were born and raised. It's just what you should do. Trust me, I almost wish they would move the Bengals and Reds so I could be free from this wretched curse, but I can't quit on my teams.

I think Mexicans get more flak because we play them a lot, they flood the stadium 100 to 1 when we play home games, and we have to deal with the fans rubbing victory in our faces everywhere we go (Like GAF). If we played Italy a lot and Italian Americans or any other sub-ethnic group did this (Which, they probably would), I'd be equally disappointed. It has nothing to do with nationality, either. I remember when my alma mater played the larger state university. I saw people attending our university dressed in the RIVAL TEAM'S GEAR! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

While I admit that I default to England when the US is absent for cultural and ethnic reasons, I certainly would NEVER cheer for England over America.

Interestingly enough, I watched this game with another Gaffer in a Mexican bar in Manhattan. Had a blast. When they found out I had played Soccer, on 3 separate occasions I was given a speech about how Soccer in the US is becoming bigger than ever and how the team is no longer a joke. Given, if my Spanish were a bit fresher, I could have had a much better time.

Anyway, enough of this chicanery. Let's get to the point that matters: We'll see what's up in a real game, amigos. You know what's up.

Comparing franchise teams to a national team. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Ok, wait, were you serious?

Comparing franchise teams to a national team.

not the same in England as we only have 1 (sort of) "franchise team" (Wimbledon --> MK Dons , even that's not a franchise team) , but the "Club vs Country" debate will always rage on.

If i had to chose between glory for the team i support and glory for my country, it's going to be club every single time. The English national team annoy me - we have the talent but we seem to lack the heart EXCEPT when we go a goal or two down in a quarter final or so and then we suddenly find our balls. Too many premos in the team, and of course it's hard to put yourself on the line when your club is paying you $XXXk a week. Though Germany, Czech rep etc all seem to have a strong sense of pride in playing for your country, i just don't get the same feeling from a lot of the England boys. :/

Kinda-Italy-GAF is also funny too. I'm always inclined to overlook malfeasance in the pursuit of laughs.
