As someone who has respect for the country as a student of the culture, people, and language of Mexico, I am offended by this implication of racism. You know I'm one of the good ones, Rewrite! It's not a cultural philosophy, it's my philosophy on sports. You stick to the team closest to where you were born and raised. It's just what you should do. Trust me, I almost wish they would move the Bengals and Reds so I could be free from this wretched curse, but I can't quit on my teams.
I think Mexicans get more flak because we play them a lot, they flood the stadium 100 to 1 when we play
home games, and we have to deal with the fans rubbing victory in our faces everywhere we go (Like GAF). If we played Italy a lot and Italian Americans or any other sub-ethnic group did this (Which, they probably would), I'd be equally disappointed. It has nothing to do with nationality, either. I remember when my alma mater played the larger state university. I saw people attending our university dressed in the RIVAL TEAM'S GEAR! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
While I admit that I default to England when the US is absent for cultural and ethnic reasons, I certainly would NEVER cheer for England over America.
Interestingly enough, I watched this game with another Gaffer in a Mexican bar in Manhattan. Had a blast. When they found out I had played Soccer, on 3 separate occasions I was given a speech about how Soccer in the US is becoming bigger than ever and how the team is no longer a joke. Given, if my Spanish were a bit fresher, I could have had a much better time.
Anyway, enough of this chicanery. Let's get to the point that matters: We'll see what's up in a
real game, amigos. You know what's up.
