The original PSP game did kind of have online Co-Op. Through AdHoc Party on PS3. It worked nicely. Played through it with a friend like that. Also I though this was already expected/comfirmed but I guess not heh.

You can't actually play the entire game in co-op; there's one Extra Ops mission that's a solo affair that's needed to complete the story.

You can play it in mostly co-op. This is where party chat is super handy on the 360-- just stay in a party chat and complete the mission individually and then once you're done, go back to playing together.

Unfortunately I really doubt it. Would require a lot of work to get split screen working, their intention is just to port the games over as is.
