MGS V: Ground Zeroes Console Quality Comparison Video

you can tell even with the above tweets, the PS4 got special treatment,

With the two consoles sharing the same architecture, I think the the better sky can be used on Xbone. But it will affect the framerate so they chose to not to use it.

As far as PS4 getting the special treatment, I see it as: "We have limited time and budget, should we spend it to make xbone version closer to the ps4 version or use it to implement better things for ps4?".

You have to remember they probably have to write and maintain different rendering code for x360, ps3, and x86+gcn of ps4/xbone.

we cant comment on a post now?

Because the XBO isn't that weak.

Are you sure about this? Seriously…X1 and PS4 are based on the same hardware architecture. It's just that PS4's implementation of that architecture is scaled up (i.e., more transistors dedicated to GPU), more accessible to developers, and more efficient. It is an apples to apples comparison. Where X1 failed hard was in the memory subsystem, ROPs, and CUs departments--not enough bandwidth where and when it counts, bottlenecked by limited filtrate, and less available GPU compute to make up for the pea-shooter of a CPU.

or maybe the PS4 was the focus, as thats where most of the fans are.

Maybe that would be true but this isn't something exclusive to MGSV. We've seen multiplats performing notciablu worse on X1 over and over these past few months. That lends more to the theory that the X1 just isn't good enough, rather than just lazy devs and bad ports (even exclusives perform pretty terribly).

Serious question: Is the atmospheric simulation on PS4 not capable of generating clouds or something? None of the comparison screenshots or footage show clouds in the PS4 version.

I'm not buying the optional hud thoery. As if some how removing a hud could only be done with the power of the PS4 and they just happen to disable it on one of the 4 versions being demoed. As for the clouds it looks like they don't have the weather system implemented. So they went with no clouds.

I am not saying the PS4 version is ground up new engine. But it seems possible that they are doing more with it than the other 3 versions.

CoD Ghost seems to have the highest amount of fans on Xbox if the NPD were to be believed. That didn't stop the PS4 version to be the better version.

It's obvious by now which one of the two is the stronger console by good margin.

If it's a weather simulation then there'd be days (in game) where there's no cloud in the sky and there'd be days where there are clouds in the sky.

This is like the comment on the other thread where the poster said kojima obviously had an agenda and wanted to ruin xbone.

Lololol

Are you sure about this? Seriously...
It's probably a combination of hardware gap, lagging dev tools, and more effort on the PS4 version. The hardware gap alone doesn't explain 720 to 1080p, as Durante noted in the last thread. They probably tried to run Xbox at 900p but ran into too many framedrops, and valued fps over resolution.

The PS4 is more powerful. Alot more powerful.

Do we know which console was the 'lead' console for development? I imagine given the game has been in development for a-bit now it probably wasn't either next-gen console was it? PS4 would be the first answer, but that means they'd have had the dev kit since like late 2011-2012?

The footage is probably from a single take. May be they are simulating clouds based on a randomizer that changes over time. You might have clouds if you play the same level again. Driveclub is doing something similar for cloud positions.

Link to Durante's posts? I'd love to hear what he had to say about this.

Wow, that video opens the kimono...MGSGZ looks truly next-gen on PS4, while Xbone looks like somewhere in-between the 360 and 'next-gen' quality.

That lighting engine on the PS4 is one of the biggest visual factors. I'm not sure what's going on technically, are they doing some kind of atmospheric raycasting? I noticed that you can see the same sort of backlit shadowing on Snake that you see in that latest Deep Down footage. Everything seems more crisp and vibrant.

One weird thing I noticed...when Snake is running towards the guard tower around 1:58 in the video, the only tower that has a guard in it is the PS4 version:

We know that Final Fantasy XV is doing something similar from several years ago. It'll be interesting to see how it all turns out.

Looks like the ps4 version has the shaky camera effect going on when snake is running while the other versions don't have it..I hate the shaky cam effect.

PS4 version really does look noticeably better compared to the Xbox One version in this video. Very easy to spot, too. In fact, the Xbox One version barely, by the slimmest of margins, looks better than the 360 version. That's pretty strange.

It's true that most of the fan base is on Playstation platforms. However, that doesn't change the fact that the Xbone can't match the performance/graphical effects of pretty much every single multiplatform game on the PS4.

Problem is. You have zero source for any definite position to account for the differences between versions.

Perhaps it was because they focused on one platform - PS4. Perhaps it was a combination of many factors.

Perhaps though it was targeted for performance on a high-end PC environment (very likely) and ported down with features removed or adjusted to work within the framework of the next-gen and current gen consoles with the PS4 better equipped to handle those features?

Sounds more reasonable than they hate X1.

Nothing we have not seen before. Gran Turismo 5 had a similar sky simulation and GT6 goes further simulating the stars as they track across the sky.

Raycasting / GI. Volumetric atmospheric physical and lighting effects. Wind-fluid simulations. Rain fluid-simulation.

Yeah... Nothing we haven't seen before (on consoles). Just like a rotating skybox!

orrrrrr ps4 got special treatment on all those multiplats.

This is hilarious. Developers can easily turn HUD elements on and off, there's PS3 clips, and all versions during the 1/2 and 1/4 speed running scene with no HUD.

Can't wait to see Polygons review scores.

8.5 PS4
9.0 XB1

"We found that despite the lower resolution, Xbox One™ All-In-One Entertainment System is the better version because it features clouds in the sky like how real sky should look like"

- Arthur Gies, Hack 'Writer/Reviewer'

hmm...

am i the only person who barely sees ANY difference between any of the 4 versions?

the ps4 and xbox one versions have sharper textures and better lighting, but... they all honestly look pretty much the same.

it feels like this is all one big joke that Konami is playing on everyone. releasing this video and watching everyone argue about which versions look better.

Kojima favoring the PS4 is clear as sky :p

I know the PS4 is more powerful, no question, but when a Japanese developer creates a game (Life FFXIII) there's always a little doubt in the back of my mind that they were completely honest with both system's capabilities. Not that they didn't do a good job on the american console, just that I can see them putting a bit more care on the Playstation console, just like FF imo.

If it wasn't for Battlefield 4 which runs at 720p 60fps on the bone, I wouldn't question them, I would be questioning the bone, but BF4 is there and it's a vast improvement over last gen. I'll wait until I try MGS, but if the upgrade from 360 is as bad as those screens/videos, then I have to question their ability, or care towards X1 (Based on other 720p games on the bone with considerable asset upgrade).

Get off your phone and on to a 1080P display. Otherwise get within 5cm of your 1080P phone display.

interesting. watching the video over and over, i see that the ps4 version barely looks better than the ps3 version, just like the xo version barely looks better than the xb360 version.. i think a joke is being played on us.
