MGS Vs Splinter Cell Vs Hitman - AI, mechanics, camera etc

Thief

Hitman

Splinter Cell

in that order.

MGS is garbage (Kojima's comments like "Games aren't art" just proved he's a moron). The gameplay sucks ass.

I've playedd all Metal Gears and al Splinter Cell's, and overall Solinter is the better stealth game. The biggest thing is that in Metal Gear you can run and gun all you want too and play the game that way and beat it (I know I've done it) In Splinter Cell you are severely punsihed for running and gunning. Also I really don't consider fighting guys that control wasps or people that can project a spectal image of themselves after their dead stealthy.

MGS, as a game, falls in with the worst interactive movies of the 90s in my book. No gameplay worth speaking of, and if I want to watch a good movie, I have a DVD player for that.

MGS easily followed by Splinter Cell and then Hitman, I've never played the Thief series though. I've always liked that the MGS series lets you play either stealthy or run 'n gun, hopefully its soomething that isn't lost in MGS4.

Giving the setting, it'd be a big loss for that feature to be pulled. You'll be able to have alot of fun with that style in that setting.

It's the control mechanics that MGS is held back by, the core gameplay is essentially amazing. Hopefully MGS doesn't lose the gameplay that makes it shine when MGS4 changes the mechanics

And the series is better for that. When you've got a series that combines realism and fantasy as much as MGS does compared to one that's just trying to be realistic you're going to have an obvious difference in how they play, even if they're both part of the same genre.

SC ONLINE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MGS or HM

Idiot, he said video games themselves weren't art, but the content within them has artistic value.

Metal Gear Solid > Splinter Cell

They offer a different exeperience, it comes down to taste.

Why exactly does Kojima insist on putting the raise weapon and fire weapon on the SAME ****ING BUTTON. That alone annoys the piss out of me when playing MGS. Hell the whole bike chase at the end of 3 was totally ruined for me thanks to the horrible shooting mechanics.

If he fixed that one little control "feature" my enjoyment factor of MGS would go up a shitload.

He just likes to take advantage of the controls, and that's one way. The DS2 has analog buttons so if you let off the button easily you don't fire.

Yes because you couldn't accomplish that stunning feat by having raise weapon be a seperate button. Oh noes, I don't want to shoot I guess I can just release the raise weapon button, see RE4 for examples.

Man if you can't get the right feel for aiming and shooting in MGS that's player deficiency!

Yes the shitty controls are my fault completely. No really, I convinced Kojima to make them that way.

Don't call me an idiot because I insulted your master. I don't care what context he said it in.

Shut up Carver, we all know you choose in order of PC quality not quality itself

I never thought about it but I do find that abit annoying, still I think the first person mechanic is very solid. They seemed to get the weapon aiming down perfectly

MGS
SPLINTER CELL
HITMAN
THIEF
DEUS EX

Well if you say so who are we to argue.:lol

Oh come on... I'm not even talking about which game is "liked" more, or is more "popular"... Splinter Cell IS stealth, its controls are made perfectly for stealth, the paths, HUD and core of the game were designed for stealth...

Hitman is like this as well, in a different light, as he's a hitman in different surroundings...

Metal Gear plays like an arcade spy game that CAN be played like a stealth game, just because the level designs and AI patterns give you that space to do so... but if there was ever a game that had to be named The Essence of Stealth, Splinter Cell sure is one of them...

Metal Gear's controls don't even give you a stealth feel - it takes too much effort to even play like one while SC and Hitman's are naturally stealth-oriented...

I thought MGS was terrible, I liked Splinter Cell slightly. Never really liked any of them, but didn't think they were very bad. I do however look forward to Double Agent.

Hitman has better gameplay, and the stories are good.

Thief has the whole package. Amazing gameplay, fantastic story, setting, atmosphere. Too bad the third was a complete botch job.

I wonder if we'll add Assassin's Creed into this topic eventually. I just don't think it is the same type of stealth.

It's more like....being inconspicuous. Yes, that's it, the subgenre composed of games in which you try to be inconspicuous.

The stealth in Assassins looks like it comes in when you're trying to escape. Those assassins would kill people in front of large crowds so they could get them to fear the group they were part of.
