Microsoft asks Gamezone to replace statement on Halo 2 Anniversary

Good work, Microsoft.

Now people still know the game is coming (not sure why this is a ridiculous secret that needs to be kept in the first place), and you also look like idiots for trying to hide it.

It's pretty much confirmed then. Kind of cool that it's coming, but nothing that will make me plunk down the cash for an Xbone.

Announce Forza Horizon 2 already...!

Wow, this seems really dishonest.

Imagine if Sony were promoting an Uncharted release in 2014, then turned around and announced an 1080p port of Uncharted 2 instead.
Yeah. Sony would never delay a game with a confirmed release window.

Driveclub.

It was stupid for anyone to think Halo 5 was coming this year. You really believe that Microsofts prize franchise, being made by a young studio, is going to turn around and have a sequel ready (on brand new hardware no less) two years after Halo 4? Get Serious. Even Bungie required 3 years to make Halo 3.

Even if they straight up lied at E3 and said it was coming in 2014 there is no possible way it was going to happen.

I was concerned about Halo 5's quality if it was coming this year since it would be the only mainline game to not have a 3 year dev time.

Is there going to be backlash for Downes? Are we going to get Kiefer in Halo 5 now instead?
In a perfect world, Kiefer Sutherland would voice all of our video game heroes.
Solid Snake. Sam Fisher. Master Chief. Nathan Drake. Joel in The Last of Us. Mario.

Kiefer knows how to play ball.

Do you expect 1080p?

Yup. Will be 1080p.

I hope to God they don't modify the multiplayer too much, if at all. It's Halo as it should be remembered. When I get an XBO, it'll be one of the first things I play if I hear reports they kept it in proper form (other than the visual upgrade, naturally).

There's a 99.8% probability that if they kept it in form, it'll be a more enjoyable multiplayer experience than Halo 5 too. So it'll satisfy my every need.

Meh. I just want to see some E3 footage.

Don't know, why they would make a secret, about what the next Halo game will be...

I don't think, that there would be a downside, if they would finally admit it. They are just making themselves look stupid this way, in my opnion.

Well they obviously wanted it to be a surprise at one of the upcoming shows (like GDC or E3), so they are desperately trying to salvage any element of surprise I'd wager.

Of course it's so far beyond too late for that I don't even know why they bother. They should just keep mum altogether

I'm not talking about a delay - every publisher on earth has delayed games at one point or another, and I actually applaud Microsoft for giving the 343i devs another year to work on it.

What isn't cool is their misleading "Next Halo adventure coming 2014!" message.

Their marketing speak has changed since 2013.

They're saying stuff like: “Rest assured your next Halo journey will begin in 2014.”

...which can mean a lot of things. Should be interesting to see what they have to announce at GDC/E3.

I agree that their messaging could be better, though. I guess it's par for the course for MS these days.

Wow. Microsoft tried to patch reality with their February update? Shame it didn't work. The ability to reshape facts would probably be pretty useful for them. Glad to see that Gamezone not only refused, but also reported that Microsoft tried to make it look as though an accurate quote was incorrect. Who dropped their journalistic integrity in my video game coverage?

I'm sure there's plenty of things microsoft wishes it could un-say.

That's hilarious.

" Hey Gamezone, you know that interview you did with that guy ? Here is what he *really* said"

They should just announce H2A, let everyone get over their disappointment that this years Halo is a HD rehash and focus on QB and SO.

I'd be happy as a bee when they finally announce it. Giving Halo 5 another year in the oven is the best thing they could do.

Fucking secretive-ass video game industry. These PR machines take themselves way too seriously. They think their carefully planned timing of an announcement is going to make a huge difference in sales and impact. NO ONE must know until these keepers of secrets deem it appropriate.

It's amazing how quickly news site have turned on MS.

Now that MS is in the doghouse, it seems websites aren't scared to upset them.
Are there any other examples of news sites standing up for their scoops? I was under the impression that the media is so far hesitant, if not disgruntled, to acknowledge Microsoft's loss of some leverage.
