Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will retire within next 12 months

Ha! Ouch!!! :D

Probably chose.

I don't understand why GAF hates Ballmer.

It's not GAF that hates Ballmer, virtually every tech analyst I've read has said that he's been good at making money, but it's all short-termism and he left them in a very weak position to fight Apple and Google.

big shoulders.

big, big, big shoulders.

whoever gets the job...is the next Steve Jobs or will be burned within a year.

I really should not revel in the misery of someone else. ... If you'll excuse me, I have to do some spontaneous dancing and singing off screen. You might hear things like "Ding Dong, the witch is dead", but I assure y'all I'm just practising for my impending Broadway debut.

He's even more like Mega Man now.

yeah I said this in the OT thread but figured that more people on this side would appreciate it

Are there even any 'heir-apparents' within the company?

Julie-Larson Green seems unlikely. The reshuffling put her in the hardware division, whereas she used to be head of Windows. That doesn't reflect well, as she was reshuffled towards a less-important component of the company from what was the most important.

Terry feels like he's still rather green, having only ever been in the Exchange division and the Windows Mobile division before his most recent promotion. I don't see him being ready for CEO position immediately.

Steven Sinofsky was the most likely candidate with the most experience... but we know what happened.

lol @ the people suggesting J Allard.

Why would they pick J Allard to ruin a giant corporation that has hundreds of divisions other than Xbox?

I think they should probably get an outsider to take the role- they need a new, defined long term vision.

He's not just Xbox. He was a very, very big force at Microsoft and changed a lot of the ways they did things. Read this. He was basically responsible for Microsoft embracing the internet so early.

im amazed that he stayed for so long especially after the stead decline of explorer as a browser, flops like zune and underwhelming reception of windows vista and 8.

I have a feeling the new CEO won't really focus on the Xbox division as much as we hope.

Yea, this makes me thing Xbox One will be their final games console with hardcore support, and they'll be moving to entertainment boxes like apple tv with an intergrated Kinect for party games and controlling the TV.

Especially if Xbox business has not picked up in 12 months time with a new CEO...

J Allards vision is what the company is currently running on, for the most part. The fumes mainly.

Good. However, how involved is he going to be choosing his successor? Hopefully, it will be someone outside of Microsoft, and not a crony.
