Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will retire within next 12 months

With that much money going into his pockets he can probably spare some ego.

You're assuming there's any marginal happiness in earning your 16th billion. Obviously I'm not in a position to know for sure, but I can't imagine it's a very big deal. It's like my boss giving me a $100 raise. I'd rather have it than not have it, but it's not going to change my life any.

This is the first time I have heard the Microsoft is wanting to transform to a devices and services company. That sounds like a massive change for a software company (which is what I thought they were)

The majority of their income is from Windows OS and Microsoft Office, I don't think there will be any radical changes.

While I'm super happy this clown is gone, I'm going to miss all the gifs of Ballmer's Looney Toons-looking face haha.

Michael Pachter or J Allard for Microsoft CEO, do it.

I really liked the Zune, I miss having a functional MP3 Player.

I admin a bunch of things for Microsoft Dynamics.. and while the current version of Dynamics is perfect for what it does the next version has the Metro interface and STUPID Yammer integration that nobody wants to use,

This is funny... but then again I'm sure Balmer has a smile on his face too while reading this. Think about it... the man is retiring and has stock in MS... MS stock rises when he leaves. He's set for the rest of his life.

He is set for life either way I think >.<

I think that was already kind of a given, even if the stock had fallen in response to this news ;)

Edit: Beaten like a Surface RT.

Good news. He was fucking MS up however they need a company wide cultural shift a that company is septic as fuck by all accounts.

Part of the problem is that they don't seem to be able to quite figure out what kind of a company they want to be and what kind of products to offer. They have diversified into many different areas as well and I feel that has helped them lose focus on those products. Instead of doing a lot of things, but with mediocre success I think they should be narrowing focus and attempting to do fewer things but do those things better.

In a lot of ways MS now reminds me of Apple before Steve Jobs returned. Product and model bloat...none of it particularly impressive. One of the first things Jobs did was kill most of the products and projects. Forced the company to focus on a few things, but to do those few things the absolute best that they could. Might not be a bad thing for MS to do.

with don gone and soon ballmer is microsoft gonna start doing things for better ?

Microsoft want to sell you Office as a service 'in the cloud'. You pay a sub, and don't buy a box, seat or license anymore.

You can buy Office 2013 right now and there are no subscription fees, the full set is there out of the box. Office 365 is for sale but there are both options.
