Microsoft congratulates Sony on their PlayStation launch.

Call me a cynic, but this is just an attempt at winning back the favor of gamers.
Had the xbone been better received going into the launch period they wouldn't have come out with this PR fakery.

Gamers are still buying their machine so i doubt that, if you mean calm fanboys i don think they care. Gamers will go where the games are in the long run.

Microsoft was sending to Mozilla a congratulations cake for new version of Firefox

Right, you're so smart. It has nothing to do with the fact that they're healthy competitors and would like each other to have success...right?

It's all business at the end of the day. These corporate guys don't hold gudges like console warriors.

Sony, MS, and Nintendo are all in this industry together, and for it to thrive and grow, they all need to prosper. This also includes PC and mobile gaming.

I'm not getting an Xbox ONE, but I wish MS good luck next week, and I hope Nintendo can turn the Wii U around, as I do plan on picking one up when Smash drops, and would like some nice competition this gen from all 3.

I never have understood the mindset of a "console warrior" as it's put which is way more than just having a preference. Especially in older folks. Deep down you will always be miserable, in the sense that the companies that mindset sees as the bad guy will always be a threat of some sort . What are the graphics like, the sales, the exclusive announcements, that's no way to enjoy gaming. It's either utter joy at their demise of some sort or sheer bitterness when they have positivity.

I understand not everyone can afford options in terms of platforms but it's no excuse to be a zealot.

I don't know. Seems like a heartless PR message, saying secretly: "Look at us, we seem to care about our direct competitor!" Not sure why anybody should compliment Microsoft on that.

Then again I just finished watching House of Cards, so maybe I'm being a little bit too paranoid.

I have to give Microsoft some respect for this! Good job.

Almost makes me feel bad for the digs Sony was making during the whole DRM thing...
Nah no it doesn't they deserved all that =P

Honestly, I'm surprised at all the 'Classy' comments. Companies are in business to make money and companies make decisions based on what they believe will help in that regard. MS has to be aware of their image as the 'big bad wolf' and realizes that it isn't doing them any favors. You can put any mask you want on, but it doesn't change what's underneath.

Gen8?

Odyssey > Atari 2600/5200 > NES/Master System > SuperNES/Genesis/TG16 >

N64/Playstation/Saturn > Gamecube/PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast > Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 > WiiU/PS4/Xbox One

I'm guessing this is the breakdown?

Edit: Yep, just saw more detail on Wikipedia.

What's your opinion on the blatant pandering that Sony has done?

Think of how widespread that image is going to be - though it's no doubt a genuine congratulations to Sony, it's also covered in Xbox's logo and signature colour and despite its message, PlayStation wasn't the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

Might be a clever bit of marketing from Microsoft, coupled with a respectful nod to the rival.

This simple messaging on Facebook was the result of someone having an idea in an Xbox One marketing meeting and everyone agreeing that it would make them look favourable in the eyes of the consumer. There's nothing "heartfelt" about it. It's all planned and coordinated. As are the messages from the Xbox stakeholders on Twitter.

Great to see the peace being kept. We all have our preferences, but at the end of the day, we all play games and that's the important thing.

Did Shuhei come and kick your dog or something? This isn't the first time I've seen you attacking someone over something Sony related.

lol @ the people saying its all just a secret agenda. Like two competing companies can't still get along. Sony computers still ship with Windows on them lol.

All the hostile crap comes from fanboys on social media. You never see Major Nelson openly bashing Sony or vice versa.

They have a mutual respect for each other and its good to see. Puts it all back in perspective and shows that many on social media and forums get carried away.

It really goes without saying that as an industry, these companies need each other to thrive. The execs get it, the devs get it, but arguably, the most hardcore of us usually don't.

I agree 100% but didn't MS got their bad reputation by trying to buy (and erase) their competition many years ago?I haven't really researched their history but this is what i was always hearing about them.
