Microsoft Discontinues 'Coffin' Option for RROD'd 360s

Hopefully this includes them sending me overnight stickers for now on.

Since having my 360 fail 3 times they are forced to expedite my service for now on. Getting the shipping label via email, sending it the same day and possibly getting it back before the week is over goes a long way towards me not giving a fuck about any more hardware issues.

It's like Amazon Prime for shitty hardware! :lol

Not a big deal. Last time they screwed up, and I have 3 boxes sitting in my house. I'm ready.

Then again, that's just asking for RRoD from my current box. :lol

I guess I better check if I saved my coffin. This refurb has flashed the 3 red lights at me once already, but hasn't done it again in 2 months, even with intense playing. I know it's only a matter of time, but my warranty expires this holiday so I need to game harder to see the full 3 red lights and get my next refurb.

On a general note... one thing I would recommend is that you register your console on the MS support site as you soon as you get it. That way, you'll know well in advance if they can work out where the hell you live or not. :lol

When my Wii's DVD-ROM broke, they only gave me information. I had to fill in my own shipping label and find my own box. The MSFT coffin was super convenient and I'm sad to see it go. If they replace it with a pre-printed shipping label, that's still 1-up on Nintendo I guess.

I'm on my 11th/12th 360. If the thing red rings again I am finding the biggest box I can (I bought loudspeakers a little while back) and stuffing them with more boxes, and those with boxes until you get to the 360 all the way in the center. I will document this for Gaf because it will happen.

Hate to wish ill on you dude, but can. not. wait. :lol :lol

I saw this today and ran to my garage hoping my box wasn't thrown out with the garbage yet. Mine was just fixed and sent back last week so I made the deadline just in time.

I find that utterly impossible.

Fuck MS and there shitty console. I plan on selling the refurb they sent me along with the new one I bought. In all my gaming years I have never had to own 3 of the same system during it current life span. Fuck 360 and wagon it came in on.

Wow. At least your not a quitter. I'm not so sure I could support a product that failed that many times.

OMG. What do you do to your 360, or is it just bad luck?

Do they have you any sort of express service plan? I'd say you deserve it.

Or you have the console tucked in the worst place possible or you are the unluckiest guy ever.

Holy fuck, 12 xbox. I guess that at least the repair service already know you so you don't have to give them your details every time :lol

Whoa...MS should give you a medal or just give you a fucking new console. Seriously for fuck sake MS, reward your customers.

Edit: errm dude shouldn't you not use that , your console ID is there.

Seeing as i dont have a printer E-labels are not an option. Fuck MS.
Mine is still in the box and I'm too lazy to set it up.

Sony still sends a coffin for passed-on PS3's. Wonder if we'll resort to e-labels, eventually.

We can still mail the physical labels out to you if you lack a printer.
Just not the boxes.
Cardboard shortage and all that.

(Hopes the Label Ship method is actually working properly in every region now.)

You work at the refurb factory?

will this policy effect those with extended warranty contracts as well? i just had a repair done a few weeks ago and it was very fast and efficient because they overnighted me a box because i don't have a printer at home.

as someone that has gone through five repairs i'll be very disappointed if msft doesn't again provide me with the same customer service that i got on this last repair

It's been like that the past 4 times it's happened to me over the last two years in Australia.

They didn't offer me a coffin when I sent my 360 to the service center 1.5 years ago. I had to send mine in a custom coffin. Germany.

Small update. The day after I did all this bashing here on this thread, they called me and told me the repairs are now free of charge and they WOULD be sending me a box and a label.

Maybe they're onto me! :lol

Psst... he posts on teh GAF... better make this one happy!

Yeah, they stopped offering it a long time ago. You have to specifically ask for one and I think they'll still ship one to you. My friend got a coffin last week or so. I didn't wait for the coffin and just went to the UPS store with the shipping label they sent me and paid $5 for them to do all the work for me.

I didn't know 360's were still breaking at such a high rate
It's the circle jerk problem. Most of us who are early adopters breaks first because of heavy use, but all we get back are the same refurb systems, which will break again. That's all there is to it.

I wish that were the case. I'm on refurb 5 or 6 right now, and everytime I need to spell things like "C-H-I-C-A-G-O" and "I-L-L-I-N-O-I-S" to "Jerry" over in Bangladesh.

Except buying a console 2 years into it's lifespan shouldn't be considered early adoption. The first 2 years worth of consoles have pathetic reliability, and the next 2 years still haven't fixed the problem completely.

I really hope the worst of the worst have been tossed out by now instead of put back into the refurb cycle.
