Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 coming to PS5 | Announcement Trailer

Weirdly enough just picked this up today on clearance:

Thrustmaster Hotas One for $30, they were getting rid of inventory for some other flight sticks.

Been a while since I messed around with a flight stick, but I thought why not since my game pass sub has Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Wanna try this out in these games too:

That's basically the one I'm using (except I got the PS4 version to play Ace Combat 7). It's so much better than using a keyboard.

This video was very helpful for setting up the controls:

Yeah, that video gives me some neat ideas, especially for the camera controls. Gonna be interesting how rusty I will be with a joystick, since the last one I owned was a Microsoft Sidewinder back in the day with games like Descent.

For those that have shitty connections or live too far from their servers to have a decent time with the game without streaming issues, you can download a shit ton of assets now (as long as you don't mind it using 200GB+ of space) so it streams a lot less. I haven't tried it yet, hoping it fixing my issues with the game.

Good decision to put in to ps5 and its well optimize. And I'm excited about the VR mode which they mentioned. Thinking about buying HOTAS
Yeah, after around 12 hours of play I'm also tempted to buy a HOTAS. They seem to be sold out on UK Amazon atm.

It plays really well on the Pro but I have experienced a few crashes, especially on the mission map screen. Also, there was one occasion where I couldn't gain altitude during a mission because of some controller bug, so had to restart the game.

Other than that, it's been a really enjoyable experience, one that I think would benefit from owning HOTAS, though it isn't too difficult with the dual sense controller. Plus, I like having the radio chatter come out of the controller.

I'd say it's more newbie friendly compared to the last game, and the career mode makes it a lot more gamey.

I've managed to pass the first 2 plane licences and I can now do sightseeing, plane delivery and sky diving missions. I'm just about getting used to landing with a 50%+ rating (which you need to gain access to more mission types).

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the port, as long as a few bugs can be ironed out.

I just upgraded my GPU and started playing this with HOTAS controls. Absolute gamechanger.

Get a Track IR working

Even if it's just an OpenTrack/BeamEye tracker with a simple webcam. It's the best accessory you can get for flight sim bar VR.

Thank me later.

Ps. Buy the T-16000m HOTAS guys. It's the best entry HOTAS beside the win wings/virpil.

Interesting, Sony asked to bring Flight Sim to PS5, not Microsoft.

That made it possible to go to other platforms, so I proposed, probably two and a half years ago, to go to PlayStation. It was probably a little bit before its time because I was told no. Then, somebody from Sony who grew up with flight simulation thought it would be a great addition to the Sony portfolio. They reached out proactively to our President, who then came back to me and said, "Hey, remember when we talked about the PlayStation thing a year ago? Sony is also interested."

I'm kind of interested in seeing how the game sells on PS5. It's currently in the top 10 games on the UK PS store by the looks of things, which is surprising really. Not to mention the PS5 HOTAS is sold out on Amazon UK (I think the physical copy of the game is sold out on Amazon too).

I suppose it's one of those games that scratches an itch you didn't realise you had.

I think a lot of people will jump in thinking its as easy to play as Gran Turismo which is also considered a "simulation". Im a massive aviation geek so all this is perfect to me but just thinking some random person, will enjoy the views for a day or two, even with all assists turned on, its not something you can maneuver like Ace Combat. Not to mention, flights are real time meaning, if the closest airport is 2 hours away, you will fly 2 hours in-game time. The real beauty of this game is starting from pushback and taxing but majority of people wont care setting up the aircraft 20-30 minutes for take-off. Also the fact you can now add SimBrief to PS5 is amazing.

I like that they have added console gamer friendly options, such as the ability to skip to takeoff or even parts of the flight. I'm somewhere in the middle because I quite enjoy the full experience, but I do like having the option to skip too. Most of the early missions only take around 30 minutes including pre-flight checks and taxiing, which is ideal for console gamers.

My dad on the other hand has a decent cockpit set up on his PC and is more than happy to spend hours on a single flight.

It's possible that Sony really wants this game to promote and to showcase the PSVR2 capabilities. MSFS2024 is the best game to show PSVR2 capabilities.
It's a huge win for PSVR 2 if they can get the game running well. Having spent quite a few hours in the game now, I've found that it can be difficult to really appreciate the scenery when trying to stay on route. Playing in VR will be great when you can just quickly turn your head to look outside.

Im not sure what joystics are supported yet for the PS5, very little details on that. For XsX I was using the thrustmaster airbus edition which was flawless but by the time I bought it, game is so playable on the gamepad, it literally took me ages again to get used to flying with it. Though its quite hard to navigate menues mid flight with it, some stuff is just made for PC no matter how much they gameify it.

I was thinking if I will buy yoke for Boeing or hotas for Airbus. If we have enough budget, I will get both and the whole set. About the crashes or glitch or bug, its still new to ps5 so it is expected but I think just a few updates will fix it. Im sure they will send regular updates and fixes..

I'm okay with the controller but still quite reliant on the controller prompts that appear at the top of the screen - things like left bumper and square to release the brakes, or left bumper touchpad to open up the tablet. There's a lot to remember, so the prompts are a god send. I'll turn them off once I'm more familiar with the controls.

But I have wondered how I'd manage if I bought a HOTAS controller because the button prompts are all dual sense related, as are the controls taught in training.

Can you get a Yoke for the PS5?

I do have a Quest 3 as well. I haven't tried it yet, though.

MSFS 24 VR can't be too far off now. It's going to be awesome. Hopefully VR isn't limited to certain modes and I can use it in career mode.
