Microsoft has filed new patents detailing an advanced Xbox assistance system that could allow either AI or human helpers to step into a player's game session. The system would enable a helper to temporarily take control during difficult sections, guide the player through challenges, and then seamlessly return control once the task is complete. Unlike traditional methods where players leave the game to search for walkthroughs or tutorials, this proposed cloud-based solution would provide direct, in-game support. The patents also describe features such as matching players with suitable helpers, limiting helper controls, tracking progress during assisted sessions, and even training AI models to function as autonomous helpers. Overall, the concept aims to create a more integrated and accessible way for players to overcome obstacles without disrupting their gameplay experience.

I get it, people just look up shit immediately nowadays if they get stuck somewhere, but I scoff at letting the game play for you, just offering tips/guides should be good enough.

All the corporations are so fast to jump on the "humans are not needed anymore" train and I'm not really talking about gaming. Not sure if I should laugh or cry.

Tens of millions of people look at games as "movies you can play." In order to 'continue the movie', assistance -- in this case, an AI-powered guide -- is needed for these players. Remember, most people cannot play games above an easy difficult setting.

Weirdly enough, it's the reason story-based single-player games will never die/be a relic. Entertainment, for a lot of young and old people, only works the closer it is to a passive, minimal-input(s) experience. Like background music or streaming.

hmmm, this is a good point actually, I wonder whats so different from Sony's patent, afterall, isnt that what patents are for? (I actually like the Sony AI Ghost 'guide' mode, thats a decent enough idea as you stil have to do it for yourself so its not that much different to watching a video really, but the 'complete' mode appears to be exactly the same as this MS patent that completes a section of the game for you not so sure this is a good idea)

Wasting water and power to automatically farm in a game with a widely available system level feature? Why wouldn't the game just reduce grind, that would save yourself the hassle and a lot of real world resources.

How much water and power is wasted making films, videogames, and TV?

Truth is water isn't really wasted, it never goes anywhere. We just have to clean it again. Power generation isn't really wasted becasue our current power generation is actually very low compared to what it will eventually be. All power we have ever generated combined is actually a very small amount relatively. In the future we will be able to generate much more much quicker.

So what resources are we wasting?

Besides, we have determined long ago that play is a key component in human health. Spending resources for play is just as vital as spending then for other survival mechanisms as long as basic survival has been met. In fact, we have inefficiently spent resources as long as we have had them. Think of how much power it uses to light up the vegas strip or the big ball thing in vegas that currently has metallica on it. We are a wasteful people and AI is one of the few things it is worth wasting resources on. AI is not just about you and me gaming better. It's also an arms race that is between China, the US and everyone else. We are literally manufacturing intelligence and the current bottleneck is simply energy. We must simply generate more, and we are, and we will.

Don't know but that is at least creating something and entertaining people.

What good is some AI bot farming in a game for your stats, and everybody else can do the exact same farming using this same expensive built-in AI? Just make the grind less in the game and you achieve the same thing, you waste less, and experience the same entertainment.

So is AI, friend.

AI also does things besides entertainment, like mapping the human genome and doing live translations or writing code. Useful things.

These things would make gaming very fun for me and perhaps provide me with a new gaming experience:

1. LLM as NPC en masse
2. AI gaming partners that will play with you on local multiplayer games or comment(or if desired coach) on your current gameplay

I'm referring to an AI farming bot for a game specifically. That is not entertaining or a useful thing.

Who cares gaming has regressed, you got a lot of hard working developers, but a lot of gamers today just need their 2k and assassins creed every year and they're good, nothing wrong with that, gaming is stuck.
 
As long as they don't start charging for it, it's fine with me as an option. I'm sure there will be some funny clips related to poor AI implementation (errors, "hallucinations," and so forth).
