I wish achievements could be made to work offline. That would be great. They should at least be saved internally somewhere until connected to the internet again. At which point the achievement would trigger and be awarded to your profile.

No, they should not waste time and resources on this... just live with it.. come one people, its not like you are playing all the time offline.

no, thats not ridiculous, why didnt you just download it beforehand? its just that MS only has to pay a license fee if you download the app.. if not, then they dont have to pay.. why should they bloat the system if you dont want to use it and even pay for it?

I'm pretty sure they already are saved in the system and get uploaded when you go online.

I'm surprised that the ability to view achievements offline hasn't been implemented yet. Offline view of trophies was added a couple if years ago to the PS4 and I thought that it came a bit late back then.

Possibly. Although, I'm missing several easy achievements in Rime because I got them while disconnected from the internet and now they won't unlock.

Yep. Fortnite isn't the global phenomenon of the moment because it has an offline mode 😏

True, but if your isp is down, you'll at least be able to play something else until you can get back online.

And, as a 99.9% single player gamer, I could care less about fortnite.😴

We don't live in an offline world anymore is the simple answer.

New TV offline - limited functionality
Phone/Tablet offline - limited functionality
PC offline - limited functionality

etc etc.
That.
I really don't know what to do with my PC or my console anymore if I am offline :), not even the phone works anymore.
Instead it is really comfortable to be online.
- Savegames are automatically synced with the cloud (even if you haven't xbl gold)
-- login on another xbox and your savegames get synced as soon as you start a game you already played
- Games get updated/installed while the console is in sleep mode

The experience is so much better. But the achievement-thing is something they really should at least show in offline-mode.

But what really bugs me, is that I always this Mixer-Tab, I really don't wane see this tab, but I must cross it to get to the shop-overview tab (well yes I know I can use the shortcut-menu but....).

The achievements are activated at some point when you are online-again. But they will no show up when you reach them if you are offline.

Maybe it's just me, but none of these seem like issues at all. Unless you are talking about someone who never goes online. In that case, they should buy something else.

Wait, you can't even activate and use the damned thing before you get internet set up?!

Correct. It's really bad and Microsoft still have far to go in learning how to make a standalone product. I set one up for my parents to use and their excitement quickly withered with all of the updates and internet connectivity that followed. They haven't touched it since.

Microsoft's software engineering incompetence tethers their platforms to the internet for perpetual patches and fixes (see Windows 10). Microsoft fanboys will perpetually apologise for this with the usual "bu bu buuuuu everything is connected to internet now anyway derp hur der" rhetoric. But it's unacceptable.

I love my X but it's the primary downside to the console (anyone who says otherwise is just a warring console fanboy and a complete corporate apologist). The Playstation platform is light years more advanced than the Xbox in this respect.

Sounds more like an issue with Time, cus Xbox One can trigger achievements while offline.

I honestly don't know what you are talking about. I have a Xbone and PS4 and both require updates. In my experience however, the PS4 is the only one I ever notice or have to wait for updates on. I have both consoles always connected to the internet.

How is the PS4 different to the Xbox One when it comes to receiving patches and fixes? More system software updates are released for PS4 every year than for Xbox One, and when it comes to games being updated they're both the same.

this so much I'm usually always online but there have been a few times my internet has gone down and god damn the Xbox sucks ass most of my games are digital and I couldn't play any

You can play digital games, including BC 360 games purchased digitally, offline if the console is set as your home Xbox and you put it into offline mode.

I do think the console has some problems though, and I'm not sure if the other consoles also have them.

For example, in the 360 era, every game disc had the dashboard update on it that was required in order for you to be able to play the game. You could also download dashboard updates on a PC, put them on a USB stick and update the console that way if you wanted to.

On the Xbox One there are no updates on discs and while MS do have a method of updating the console via USB, it's designed for system recovery, not routine updating.

Also, why is the offline mode buried in settings? If the console loses connection, why doesn't it ask you if you want to switch to offline mode? I mentioned this to a dev on the Xbox team years ago and he said that they were planning to make it more discoverable, but they haven't done a thing about it.

The final issue is, why don't BC games that you don't own digitally work offline? I don't see why it's any different to disc-based Xbox One games as in both cases the game is installed on the hard drive and authentication is done via the disc.

Really? I always thought that you only did a one time download and validation.

I said out of the box. You probably only have to download the update one time. But if you delete your profile, you can`t create a new profile without connecting to their servers.

So that is your message?
Get a 360?

they're really "nickel and diming" their customers.

imagine, for example, visiting neogaf.com and being charged $0.01 for every word you posted.

Just a correction: you can play 360 games offline and the progress will be saved.
Just tried this out with Forza Horizon.

Worst outlook ever. A number of scenarios could present itself, everything mentioned in this thread for starters, on top of that, what about if Microsoft servers go offline? What if Net Neutrality takes a weird turn and Xbox traffic is charged additional fees by your ISP?

There is no technical reason the Xbone can't keep track of everything it needs to update against your account offline and then sync back up while online, like Dropbox or Amazon drive. This measure is entirely anti-consumer DRM and it's funny that Microsoft, after getting a ton of backlash after announcing the One, "relented" and eased up on their "always online" stance, however effectively not much has changed. The headlines simply read "Microsoft backs down" and everyone put down their torches without reading the fine print.

Perhaps that was their plan all along: Announce very draconian online requirements, anticipating negative press, so they could lower the requirements to where they originally intended in the first place. However it went down though, it's extremely anti-consumer and not at all technically needed.

I did and I only have the one Xbox the games just wouldn't load haven't really tried going off line again but I don't really want to lol

Wow. I'm no Xbox hater but this is a travesty. I can't believe I didn't know about this, but boy am I glad I never supported this garbage by buying any iteration of this console.

No offline achievements? Seriously? What the fuck has it come to. Even if they had fixed that recently, 5 years of their console being at market and having this completely anti consumer crap in place, is cause for their perpetual shame. Man I hate the games industry.
