Microsoft still reminding customers about their DRM Reversal

I think this entire post sums up how I feel about how ridiculous things have gotten. Ah well, it's why I stick to the OT section.

Relax. Play games. Have fun. Take a bubble bath.

This is neither a refutation of any point I have made nor a particularly valuable contribution to this topic. I appreciate you may not find these issues important and you have no problem spending your money frivolously on bad companies who are currently "behaving badly", if I can use a crude term for a second, but I think everyone would appreciate you not wading into the discussion if you're not going to bother really thinking about what people are saying and responding to those issues.

This is the posting equivalent of "oh whatever you say dude, UR TOO SERIOUS"

Don't buy the XB1.

Statements like "it will take me years to get over this" isn't the same as discussing what you like and dislike about games.

At least from my perspective.

It will take me years to get over what MS tried to pull. What does that mean? It means that I will sit back and wait and see what they do with their new console. It means they tried to strip away my rights as a consumer and I am hesitant to support them in any way if there's a chance that they'll try it in the future. It mean that I am, typically, a gamer that buys every game console and now I'm waiting for MS to show me that the investment of my money into their console won't result in several years of shit I've had to deal with post-kinect going into the xbox one launch and beyond.

No stress. Just me as a consumer stating what I intend to do with my money.

This is sad, Microsoft fudged up big time, and until the say they wont bring the DRM back instead of continuously avoiding the question they deserve all the hate they get.

I still stand my point since May. I do not trust them anymore, and everyone who is praising microsoft since they did a 180, you need to think twice before putting your hard money down. I for one do not trust them because everything is still behind a paywall. Also there messaging is rather odd to say the least. No full context to fully understand what they are really saying if it is true or not.

I am just done with Microsoft on the way how they treat consumers like piggybanks and all of a sudden they 'changed' in a few months. Give me a break if you believe this you are having illusions or still wearing those rose tinted glasses.

Welp, they pretty much gotta do this. Although "We designed xbox one to be your xbox one" is insulting to gamers that know better. They really need to stop lying in their ads and pr (mostly the pr, since it's getting embarrassingly bad).

We've reached the point where people give Microsoft shit just because its what they've been doing for the past 5 months. this thread is tame compared to the stuff from June.

Pretty much. People keep saying "when will the bashing end!?!" don't realize it's only been a couple months since the policies have been walked back. I reckon the Xbox brand is going to be stuck with a negative stigma for the next year, right up until Halo, when people will promptly buy back into the ecosystem. So get used to the unease in MS threads. It's not gonna be gone for awhile.

No. It's the equivalent of who gives a shit ;)

Absolutely not. They were clear about it from day one. Sure it sucks for a lot of people, but their communication was clear. Sony hasn't had to change ONE thing about their approach.

It has everything to do with the post you quoted.
And the thng is, I believe Yoshida even explained why they put online multiplayer behind PS+.

Found it:

What we internally discussed and decided is that we will continue the free access to online play on PS3 and Vita, so that's clear. But because on PS4 the online connectivity features such as second screen, auto downloads and share features - these are one big pillar of the PS4 experience and we will continue to invest in this area to expand and improve these online features and services.

If we keep giving away online access for free, the natural pressure is that we have to cut down on the cost to provide this free service. But that's conflicting with our goal of being able to provide very robust and great online services going forward. So we decided that on PS4, because we want to continue to invest and improve our new services, we've asked the most engaged consumers in the online activities to share the burden with us so that we can continue to invest.

But to make the pain a little bit less we will continue to offer free content with instant game collections, discounts and early access to betas on PS4 as well. So at the beginning we typically picked from older games for the instant game collection on Vita and PS3, but because everything is new on PS4 we decided to make a smaller version of Drive Club with all the online features open, included in that instant game collection on day one.

In addition to that we add one digital game every month, so they get high quality indie games as well on top of what they get on PS3 and Vita. So hopefully that makes people's decision easy to join PS Plus.

If you explain it like this to customers, a lot of people will understand and they will actually think: "That makes sense. Fair enough."

Meh. I'm taking my chance on the 180 next year. I respect any guy/gal having the right to spend their money as they see fit but I don't want to sit around going "that'll learn 'em". Fuck that, they have games that I want to play.

Bottom line is, MS's big chance was E3. I think people would be way more forgiving if they reverted the policies in that event. Because since even before their May reveal, rumors/leaks strongly hinted at it (their policies), and they knew what consumer/fan reaction was. The whole Adam Orth thing happened, they knew the reaction to that. And then the entire #NoDRM camapign happened, and they knew even then what people wanted. They even said they were listening. This was all before E3.

After all this, they double down at E3. Only afterwards, when they presumably received bad news from pre-order numbers, did they change their policies. It shows they were more beholden to potential money than to the outcry of actual people and fans.

This is not even counting all the other bad news MS has had, like labeling countries as tiers, delaying launch in countries, delaying features, etc..

They need to reach the audience that still hasn't heard about this so I'm completely fine with them spreading the message around, it's what they need to do now that we're only a couple of months away from launch.

That's sad but way too funny lol. Poor baby.

Are we seriously worrying about people with absolutely no access to an internet connection? And who will be picking up the first batch of xbone's, that's a little much.

Is is really "a little much?" I mean, I think it is quite a possibility that someone buying one of these for their children, might miss the fact that it needs to be connected to the internet to function.

Although, as long as single player games work, it is not an issue.

So the corporation let us know they were indeed a corporation.

It's pretty telling that they are still trying to clarify their policies with just over two months to go before launch. They must now realize what a catastrophe their unveiling and follow-up at E3 was. It's unfortunate for MS to have to direct their advertising dollars and manpower on clarifying what the console does and doesn't do.

Microsoft is focusing so much of their time on what they're no longer doing and that their competition isn't that much better that they seem to be forgetting to tell me why their product is worth my time.

Especially since this is such a simple policy compared to what we were going to get. If they can't even explain this, how the fuck were they going to explain whatever they were going to do before the 180?

It's another issue I worry about with the XB1. They pretty much threw away what I can only assume was years of planning on their vision of the system. It feels like they're floundering right now with no clear direction. How will that affect the console in the future?

Another reason I'm holding off on the XB1. Seems like they're just trying to keep afloat.

Nobody trusts you Microsoft. Even gamestop still tells people they have DRM in it. SECRET MOTIVE?!

But saying you're going to reintroduce it later on in the life cycle of the console? Yeah we don't believe you what so ever.

No. It's the equivalent of who gives a shit ;)

That's just as bad, if not worse, than what I was saying it was equivalent to. You obviously gave enough of a shit to find issue with my initial comment and post something, but when responded to and elaborated in quite extensive detail why people have these issues, you then failed to respond to any point raised and resorted to "stop being so serious, it's gaming, TAKE A BUBBLE BATH!"

First of all that's condescending, second of all that's totally conversation shitting, third of all it added nothing to the conversation and fourth of all it showed a certain level of disrespect for posters who are putting in the effort to detail their responses to you.

Are they really? Well damn.

It was an isolated incident a week or two ago, but it was before that big gaudy chart thing. It's not like gamestop employees have to be well informed. They just have to hustle used games to unsuspecting rubes.

Though to be fair, I don't bother to correct people. I find it hilarious that these shenanigans are going to continue and I'll be laughing my ass off as people believe this well into next year at Microsoft's belief that we would gladly bend over and take it from daddy corp.

This is one of the problems with NeoGAF. Many give Microsoft hell for online DRM. Microsoft changes DRM. Many give Microsoft hell for marketing new non-DRM.

What do you want them to do?

This is a key issue that people need to understand.

Though at the same time, it's videogames and people will drop the proselytising and moralising as soon as there's an exclusive game they like on the system. See the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo's utter garbage treatment of the customer via cranking up the pricing on carts and peripherals (Despite the console's panic drops) and being slow as molasses on localisation (And throwing in a speed decrease to rub salt in for PAL gamers). Yet suddenly being forgiven when StarFox and GoldenEye showed up and was all but forgotten by the time of Zelda's release. Hell, how many people who voted EA worst company in America are going to play Battlefield 4 this year?

It's happened before, will happen again and I'd hardly be stunned when we're talking Halo 5 when people say "There was DRM planned? Oh well, I don't care. 64 Player Griffball? I'm in for that".

I think you're overstating how popular the N64 was.
