If the price drop was more of a surprise you'd be correct but there's no easy way to determine at what point or to what extent that knowledge of the price drop really began to cull sales. The price drop was rumored/known for what, most of August?Sho_Nuff82 said:Aren't we getting August NPD tomorrow? Take the August number, divide by 4, multiply by 2 to get this weeks numbers is how the usual math works.
If the 360 went over 200k in August, which should be a lock with Madden and all, we should expect a monster September with the price drop + Rock Band 2 instrument packs.
Agreed. Most of the hardcore have already jumped in. This price cut is going to be more for those whose parents/family wouldn't pay for the higher price. Now those people will be able to get one for Christmas.soco said:i think we can all guess they're not basing it off of NPD. IMO, you'll see a rise for september, but it'st not going to say much as we know people have been holding off. when some of the bigger games start and the holiday shopping gets underway, then we can really see the effects of the price cut.
just my guess, though.

*edit* And yeah, like the dude in the post before me said, I am mostly planning on picking up Singleplayer/Local Multiplayer games.

It's more like 5 dollars a month.
EmCeeGramr said:Even if your against the principle, its crazy to deny yourself of such a service at that price.
I think paying for cable and still being subjected to commercials is illogical, but Im not going to limit my viewing options and sacrifice signal quality.

Fanboy B: LOL damage control(basks in 20K victory for the month)
Fanboy A: Just wait until September NPD
MS PR sales increase 100% from last weekend
Fanboy A: Glorious
Fanboy B: but wait if sales were down wouldn't that take them back to pre price drop levels of sales
Fanboy A: Bitter tears
Iwata:laughs somewhere

Just wondering though, this will most likely be the last price cut for a while dont you guys think? Like as in, a really long while?
Cause if the 360 Arcade even drops by 50$ within the next year that would be insaaaaaaaan.e 150$!!! It would be the price of a PS2 bundle.
Concept17 said:Y'know whats crazy? The 360 only costs 70$ more than a PS2.

DeaconKnowledge said:Personally I think that's way overpriced. I don't see myself playing 5 bucks worth of online gaming enough, especially considering I barely do it on my PC or Wii when it's free. YMMV of course.

gtj1092 said:And it will only be $50 more than Ps2 at christmas and effectively the same price of a PsP since I haven't seen a stand alone model in over a year.
WrikaWrek said:So you are telling me that you actually pick up a phone to start a conversation with a Gamestop employee? That by itself is fucked up, and to top it all you even ask about the availability of 360s, not because apparently you are looking to buy one, but simply to get a better sense on how it's doing.
That's just shheesh, goddamn man. You deserve some sort of praise to be so into it.
thuway said:No. I was trying to get information for retail musings..
Sho_Nuff82 said:I guess it's really time to throw down the virtual gauntlet - is there anyone who believes that the price drop will have no effect, given the precedent we have of the previous, less substantial, higher-price tiered 360 drop in August of 2007 doubling sales for the month?
portable devices are different story though, people have special need for them.Spiegel said:Y'know whats crazy? The 360 only costs 30$ more than a PSP.

I didnt know you could go on Live with just a memory card though. Arcade is sounding really good now. How many max size xbla titles could I fit on the memory card?
gtj1092 said:I haven't seen them in my area(Natick,MA). You want a PsP you are getting Dexter, Madden or GOW CoO. You know if they are releasing a new bundle at christmas?
Can't wait till NPD tomorrow to see the people that are praising the PR in this thread claiming a decrease in sales in the August NPD thread due to people waiting for the price cut.
Kagari said:Daxter bundle has been discontinued for ages. New Ratchet bundle in October iirc...
But yeah, I imagine there will be a lot of "But people were waiting for price cut" responses tomorrow.
EmCeeGramr said:But if you did play online alot then 5 dollars is pretty good. I dont mind the random matchmaking in an online Nintendo game, but the feature set is so poorly lacking and designed that unless youre playing Mariokart its a hassle to find and setup games. Even friendcode sessions are a headache because you have to use communication avenues outside of the service to set up games. I want to have a universal friend code/tag, an invite system that can alert registered peeps that are playing other games, etc. Wiispeak is a nice step, but I think partly why Microsoft is forced to polish the Live experience so well is because it is a subscription service and people will stop paying for it if it doesnt evolve to their needs. The lack of progress in other services may be attributed to them being free. Why improve your service if there is no incentive to the manufacturer that doesnt charge anything for it?

I don't know if 'praise' is the word I'd use.

wtf.

And the interesting thing about it is, it's not actually available on the 360. I've tried, and tried, and tried to get my 360 to log into PSN but it just doesn't seem to want to work. Funny how that works....DeaconKnowledge said:You know Sony's service is free, right?

WrikaWrek said:Do you actually work at a store? Are you that one i heard who's retail musings were "Ps3 is selling like it's free, 360 is selling like it's made of 100% rats hair, hit me baby"?
I bet i know why. Do you even let people buy a 360 before you hand them a crash course on why the PS3 is the best?
Jesus.
Danthrax said:BTW for those wondering, I have empirical evidence... my dad bought an Arcade this past weekend from Best Buy and I checked its power brick -- 175 watts. No Jasper. =( Falcon, though! =)

Xbox 360 out of top 30 sales days after price cut
This is where you jump in and say, "See, I told you that price drop would have minimal impact. The sales surge has already stopped. Xbox 360 won't even outsell PS3 in October."
