Microsoft: Xbox Scorpio's power advantage over PS4 Pro 'will be obvious'

It better be. It's coming a year later and will cost more than 399.

This is definitely a "no shit" moment. I just wonder if XB1 is the base and the power difference is that huge, what would be the point? Just say you fucked up, release the Xbox 2wo and make it BC with 360 and One games, price it right, call it a day and pray for sales.

No one expects the Scorpio to turn things around. It is to late Sony has to big of a lead and mind share. The Scorpio is all about an olive branch to the core gamers to rebuild the brand. I do laugh that Scorpio threads always turn into sales threads. People need to quit being so defensive and celebrate MS trying to push technology and maybe push Sony when the PS5 comes out.

What I can say is that the lead up to the PS4 and XBO launches in 2013 was greatly entertaining. Sitting back and watching the fanboys rage, corporate shills with sock puppet account getting exposed and banned on this forum, fighting over resolution, and all the other drama.

Hopefully 2017 will be similar purely for my entertainment.

You can look into the future? There is much more to the PS4's success then just power.

I said in case MS don't fuck up like Sony. What games did Sony show yesterday for the pro? the only first party game that seemed like some effort actually went into it was Horizon. I like Sony lineup a lot more than MS but where were they yesterday?

Crushing in power? Yea, Scorpio is going to body Pro free in specs and power.

Crushing in sales? Maybe in bizzaro world.

Why does people sound very confident about this? at the very least Sony WILL lose some market share to MS due to this. Just because it's Sony in this gen doesn't mean they can't lose at least some market share.

Hopefully they can keep the price <$500 otherwise why not just get a PC?

People seemed to care a lot about power when the PS4 came out and trounced the Xbox One but suddenly it's a non issue. As someone who was going to upgrade either one or the other, I'm certainly not interested in spending $400 to squeeze just a bit more juice out of a console I already own.

It's not a bit more... If the difference between 4.2 and 6 TF is apparent then the difference between 1.8 and 4.2 will be a hell of a lot more!

We sound confident because we've seen how this generation plays out. And how previous generations played out.

And if you think the way MS has been marketing the Scorpio will allow them to gain market share, I'm not really seeing it.

It seems, much like the PS4 Pro, a system designed to appeal to fans within the ecosystem.

Of course, why would it not? I am still interested of getting the XBO for the first time...Scorpio might be it.

Then what? Scorpio crushing the pro for 2 years until the PS5 is released(ofc in case ms don't fuck up like Sony did)? that doesn't sound like a smart plan.

I will probably buy a WiiU or NX to play Zelda. Not because Nintendo has powerful consoles.. because Nintendo has a game I really, really want to play. Microsoft, as of right now, doesn't have that ( for me at least )

Who know things can change by late 2017 into 2018 and Microsoft can build up a stable of enticing software.

Then you probably won't want to upgrade this one either, since it's still for playing Xbox One games "a little better" than the one you already own. :)

Power helped, but pretty sure people cared especially about comparative price and PS4 not being anti-consumer like the original XBone (the two largest E3 reactions), before they backtracked when they saw those preorders. And Sony partnering with Destiny, etc.

How it works for some. Microsoft didn't care either...

I'm a Nintendo fan, I've dealt with last gen graphics for a while now, lol. Granted I have other consoles and a PC to lean on, too.

We'll see what's true and what isn't in a year and I'll make my choice then. I can happily not upgrade to either if I see no reason to.

Then Sony can do exactly what Microsoft is doing now, which is say "why buy a scorpio now when PS5 is just around the corner and will crush the scorpio"

The only difference is that they'll be saying that while being in the position of overwhelming market leader, to a playstation install base that will be likely be around 30+ million users larger than Xbox by the time Scorpio rolls out.

I'm a big Microsoft fan, but at this point we need to content to justify Scorpio. This years line-up, while strong, is perfectly fine on current hardware and isn't compelling enough to justify Scorpio (imo). Hopefully they have some stuff in the pipe to ensure the consoles power is justified.

Competition is good. Pro's specs are pushing the Scorpio to be better. Hopefully Scorpio pushes the PS5 to be better, too, 2-3 years later. Likewise whatever Xbox does next, too. We win with better consoles. Let's!

With it being a year away it better be obvious.

But again I've asked this. How much will the difference really be when the software will be married to the base consoles?
Doesnt matter really, could be like a PC game with Medium Setting vs Very High settings.

Call it a day and pray for sales sounds like a pretty stupid gameplan to me. You can't just start the next generation because you feel like it (unless you're Sega, cus then fuck it YOLO).

You'll just piss off your previous customers that bought your last console, and the game's will still be held back by the OG PS4 regardless. Nobody's making Scorpio exclusive games, instead of a multiplat release that can target like 50+ million PS4s as well. So if the bar's going to be a stock PS4 anyway, may as well make it a stock XB1... it's never stopped PCs from showing meaningful improvements.

This also counts for people who are so sure it's going to be $399 too right?

Absolutely.

It was up to me you'd all get ps3/360 2013 graphics but using all this power for more interesting gameplay stuff(Idk what but it would be amazing)

I said this in the Scorpio thread but I'm expecting its final performance to be a bit higher than 6TF. I think MS wants to be able to advertise 4K/60 by next fall and they'll need to bump up the performance a bit more to hit that IMO. Hopefully the parts costs drop to the point where that's possible at $399-499 range in Fall 2017.

wow so the shots are being fired already, even the obvious
It will do them a mountain of good. MS needs to focus on their own brand and not PlayStation. Distancing themselves from the Xbone sooner rather than later is one of the better moves they can make

this sounds like wishfull thinking.

Of course it will be but not only because of the raw number of at just 6tf but because of the much better CPU they are most likely putting in the box.

But Albert, with you guys bringing most of your first party catalogue to Windows 10, why wouldn't I spend the money for Scorpio on upgrading the GPU in my computer?

The more I think about it, the more this makes so much sense for Sony.

They have a commanding(dominating) lead this generation. Now, they come out with a much more powerful system halfway into the console's lifespan where many will upgrade, and many will jump into this generation for the first time. The lead is going to keep growing and growing. Its a fine console, one that gives users choice on how to use the hardware. FPS, better graphics, whatever. The player gets to choose. Microsoft is coming in a year late with a more powerful box, but well behind in the install base. A lot of users will be so into the Sony ecosystem, especially now with the Pro, that I don't see the Scorpio even making a dent into the massive lead Sony will have by this time next year.

Myself, I just love Sony exclusives while XBOX has next to nothing that interests me. I have a PC for Forza Horizon 3, and besides that there is nothing in the games department that makes me want to jump back into that ecosystem(I had a 360).

I really don't care about console wars and all that jazz, as I just love games. From a business standpoint though, I think Sony is just killing it.

Maybe they will use Excavator

Its very possible, or Puma, either one would be a jump over Jaguar.

But Zen i think is in a very iffy situation considering how new it is, they had to push it back for its main launch on desktop to next year as it is, and that will definately stall their low powered APU solutions too, as well as the aforementioned Zen semicustom plans from Sony and MS that they will definitely want to use in their consoles after the upcoming ones, at the very earliest

The power jump would be really underwhelming for a full generational leap and there are still a lot of fresh Xbox Ones purchases out in the wild. Also, the baseline for 3rd party games (the vast majority of the console's library) would still be the OG PS4 so you would only see the benefits on a handful of MS published titles in a world where 1st party games rarely drive hardware. It would just be bad PR all around for little to no gain.

Absolutely.

They did it with the Xbox. 360 was only 4 years later.
