This has got to be a fuck up of a few people in their accounting department or something, right? That's the only thing that would make sense.
I'd imagine it's something like this. I can't see why MS would intentionally withhold payments they've agreed to make. That they've even overlooked would be a terrible issue, though.

It's almost Christmas. Do people think indie devs are rich enough where they can go without getting paid for two months?

Indie devs are beyond a doubt the most vulnerable devs in the industry. Many are just one bad failure away from being unable to continue their dream.

Microsoft is a massive company with a ridiculous amount of funds. I cannot even begin to think of an excuse that justifies this, so I hope they're thinking up some good bullshit right now.
The XBLIG developers had better be, because they only get paid once per quarter anyway

So you wouldn't mind your employer not paying you for 46 days or more? You should let them know that.

Your attitude is really terrible.
The point is, the agreement is that they will get paid within 45 days of the end of the quarter; so it is 1 business days or 19 actual days late -- not 3 months or some of the other numbers being thrown around

(net X payment terms are usually calendar days not business days)

The cold weather has slowed them down. With gamers around the world trying to snag themselves a new xbox system we are struggling to keep up with demand so all our efforts have been focused on this.

i'm sure their PR can come up with something better lol.

MS pimping its bank account for the end of the year by retaining due money ? Well, it's not as if indies have enough ressources to do anything else than bitch on twitter and sue MS :(
Money made from XBLIG is a fart in the wind for MS' bank account. This is an issue in their system that needs to be worked out.

Beyond fucked up. And they wonder why so many indies are pulling away from Xbox platforms.

Microsoft wont be getting any payments from me. They really are a despicable company. This industry would be better off without them.

Accountants would be freaking the fuck out if a payment were a DAY late. Must be some internal software system that is broke as fuck. Never met an accountant who wouldn't go completely berserk in this situation

This is bullshit, I hope this picks up more press and Microsoft are forced to put out a statement and pay these people.

Unless we're missing something huge- this has to be an accounting error and nothing more malicious then that.

That said- massive oversight either way. People gotta eat.

um, if you know you get paid on such and such date, you plan for it. You cannot then go an additional two months without getting paid after already waiting an exhaustive period

Lmao, no.

It's probably some accounting mishap, let's not jump the gun like we ALWAYS do until we hear the full story here.

It sucks, not saying it doesn't, but let's tone it down a notch and find out what happened here before saying shit like this.

There is no way that a company as large as MS can go that long without a saying a word about delayed payments.

Sadly, working as a freelancer for big companies like MS this is the usual way of doing things.

I edit a lot of videos for a certain beer maker (James Bonds favourite one) and they always take more than 90 days to pay up.

An accounting mishap is a late payment of a couple of days.

46 days late? You can bet your ass these devs have been screaming at MS for weeks to get their money.

We don't know the full story but it's not as simple as someone forgetting to press a button

The full-on sales data was missing before this from like July and up until recently. We only just recently got that. This is not really a surprise at this point.

I don't think anyone should plan on money from XBLIG. Have their been any success stories out of there except for I Made a Game With Zombies?

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Oh trust me I know what this is like, I am a freelancer as well. I just make sure clients know when they are signing my contract that payment is due in a set amount of time. I have only had problems with a few clients, but mainly they are good and early most times.

So MS is withholding $ that amounts to essentially spare change for the company?

That doesn't make sense either. I can't believe this is malicious. Incompetence tho, probably.

I honestly have no clue how this is possible in such a huge company that works with vendors constantly.

Damn. So strange to hear about a company as big (and rich) as MS not paying their business partners on time.
this is what I cant seem to figure out. and the lack of context is even more baffling. the resources to pay are certainly there, so what is the hold up?

Could be a million different things. A company as big and rich as MS wouldn't just NOT pay indie developers to cause further negative mind-share to their already iffy brand right now.

I mean, honestly, who thinks they would do this shit on purpose? I'm sure it's an enormous accident, which is ultimately a fuck-up, but not one with malicious intent.

Before I jump in with the lynch mob I am glad this was brought up. This happens a lot more then people are willing to admit. I know in some situations quarterly payments are made not monthly or weekly.

Not saying it is right, but just pointing out it happens.

We haven't gotten paid either. Unfortunately, this is nothing new for Microsoft - it feel like half the time they're late with XBLIG payments.
Holy shit. That's what...2 confirmations in this thread alone?

Get it together MS. People rely on getting paid. Not to mention it's very close to the holidays.
