Microsoft's X07 event aka Bish's voice is f*cking SHOT

Yeah, so today was the day - Toronto, Microsoft, a boatload of publishers and 360 games up the wazoo. If you weren't here, you should have been. I was demoing Turok (met El Nino, wassup dude) and actually got a chance to see some of the other titles coming up. At least, I did until the power went out - some assclown hit a pole or something down the street and knocked out electricity for the entire block.

So I drank Red Bull and vodkas for a couple of hours while we waited for things to get going again. Full marks to the MS crew for keeping everything on the up and up during the downtime.

quick two-second writeups:

NHL '08 - worth the score it got from EGM, holy shit EA well done
NHL 2K8 - graphics aren't as good as EA's effort, but gameplay? tight as hell
Halo 3 - WOW WOW WOW WOW is that single player? WOW WOW WOW WOW
Smackdown vs Raw 08 - same ol' same ol' (now with JEFF HARDY!!)
PGR four - driving with the cars looked niiiiiiiiice, but the motorbikes don't quite fit as of yet
Turok - game of the show, yup
Tony Hawk - looks like Neversoft is ready to answer Skate's challenge, but my mom says I'm not allowed to play skateboard games anymore, so no hands on impressions, sorry
Simpsons - you need to see this game in motion, it's the cartoon come to life. I'll buy it on day one despite the wonky targeting, it looks *that* good

There's more, but my voice is fucking gone thanks to the crowds who were checking out Turok, I can't believe how much great feedback the game got today. I gotta get some rest.

All in all, the Xbox 360's lineup this holiday and through next year is absolutely batshit insane with quality. It should be illegal to have this many heavy hitters in this short amount of time, but I'm not complaining. I'm not gushing for the sake of, the games coming down the pipe are really that damn good. :D

Thumbs way, waaaaaaaaaay up to MS for an awesome event. Glad I came out.

Damn, sounds awesome. :lol

Any detailed Halo 3 impressions?

God damn! I wish I was there. I'm probably only twenty minutes away.

Regarding Turok . . .

Sounds like the game is turning out really well, but do you worry that the Turok name will be more of a liability than an asset (after the last few games came up a little short)? Or are you banking on name recognition?

Nice to hear Turok was getting good feedback, looking forward to it. :)

And yes, NHL over 2K this year huh. Would have thought it'd be all NHL2K8 this season if you'd asked me a few months ago.

Killzone -> Killzone 2.

Any impressions on PGR4's cockpit cam and how it compares to 3's?

Also, could you delve in a bit on how NHL08 and 2k8 seem to compare based on your (probably limited) playtime? I was burned last year on NHL07 by retarded AI and am really hoping things are mended this year.

yeah, I was joking with the PR reps that I saw Kaz running down the street leaving an exploded power transformer behind :P

As far as Halo 3 goes, what can I say? The folks who were bitching about it being "Halo 2 in HD" are going to be eating a bit of crow in couple of weeks. It actually pumped me up a bit, knowing the competition that's coming up, but I'll be lining up to get a copy on release - and that's coming from a guy who wasn't all that chuffed about Halo 2. What I played today made me a believer. Fact.

oh oh oh there was an XNA display as well, three different games (that I saw). Nice to see some of that work come to fruition in a tangible way, kudos guys...

Bish gets a new avie?

Bish MS money hat?:lol

A big fucking Kidding of course

What I really want to know about NHL '08 is about the defense men. Do they actually hold the blue line or what? Can I actually pass it to the points without fear that the wonky D won't be on the outside of it thus garnering a whistle for the offsides. 2k7 didn't have this problem so I'd expect that won't be an issue with that one.

This would be my concern too. That said, I think the casual crowd will see the name and recognise it and investigate further, and the hardcore crowd won't judge the game based on the downwards-spiraling quality of its predecessors.

Hopefully.

No offense, but if you thought something bad about someone else's game, you wouldn't be allowed to talk about it, right? :)

Nope. That was a concern at first, but it's such a complete reset of the franchise that it's no longer an issue. We kept all the cool stuff - native American hero, the bow, the knife, motherfuckini DINOSAURS - and ditched all the other crap.

In terms of the PGR's cockpit cam...I didn't play the last one enough to make a value judgment, I'm not the guy you want doing comparisons. :D The cars and the weather effects just looked...right, you know? Everything's come together graphically and it looks really, really tight. Which made the motorcycles all the more jarring - that feeling of solidity with the cars wasn't there with the bikes yet. I'm sure it'll come, though.

do I look like the kind of person who holds his tongue?

Hey room service

All I gotta say about Turok is that, once I learned it was a reboot of the series, I'm instantly going to purchase it. Especially since I've seen the dedication and effort that went into the game and what it produced. It looks simply awesome.

I gotta pre-order it soon, it's definitely a must-buy for me. A more unique FPS game.

The hell, you were in my hometown and no heads up? Boo. I would have come out with signs for the Vancouver Mover.

Holy crap, check out what cames on top when you google 'Crotch Saunter'

Halo 3 - playable, tons of units to get hands on with.

NHL impressions - smoother, less wonkiness with the analog stick movement, beeyyyyyyyyyyyoooootiful graphics, D-men acted less dumbass than previous years...2K8 was solid as it's always been, but the graphics weren't as good. Better than last year's, for sure, but EA's game looks truly next-gen.

Good stuff...

And yes, there are way too much games that I want that are coming out at the end of this year for the 360 - way too much goodness, but I'm not complaining!

Was it just Tsavo and Sierra again?

I sent emails to MS about getting access to go. I was ignored. Sucks. Would have loved to see Halo 3 and meet you bishoptl.

Need to see PGR4 too, shame about the bikes. Is there a firm date on PGR?

So... no more impressions, then. :(

I'm a huge fan of the Tony Hawk games. I really want to know more about the next one.

I wanna see Turok running on PS3 dammit!

Is there any footage from GC? Wasn't it supposed to be demoed there as well?

This is what I was hoping for. I would love to see footage of Turok running on the PS3. With all the news of delays for PS3 versions of multi-platform games. Turok looks like the truth, though...

I thought X07 was canned? Guess not.
The real X07 in Europe was cancelled. There's an X0* event in Canada every year as well, but it's not nearly as major. That event is what bish is talking about.
