Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Story Trailer

Hoooo boy that was some trailer. Should really go and play through Shadow of Mordor this summer, but then again I don't wanna burn out on the gameplay before release. Is that much of a risk?

I would just wait

The mechanics are basically the bread and butter of that original game and this looks the same. The story was not good. At all.

So bummed that they decided to delay, but hopefully it's for the better. August would have been a great time to release though.

Anyway, this and Battlefront 2 are gonna solidify my Scorpio purchase.

Disregarding closet racists, for some reason fucking up with the Balrog would really annoy me and I'm very forgiving with their treatment of the lore since it's just fan fiction.

It was very fun. An orc murder simulator didn't need to be that deep.

There'll obviously be more to it in War.
Well, it would mess with the hierarchy of the world, Sauron is a great bluffer:
He not as strong as he appears to, never reached the heights of his master.
And this is the reason why powerful and ancient beings like Durin's Bane never heed his call. They just don't care nor fear him.

Still, is as you said, a fanfiction with a lot of fan service. The gameplay and the nemesis system are great, so its best to play along and enjoy the ride ^^

I'm still half betting that the Balrog isn't actually in Sauron's service, but rather you're trying to get it on your side.

Love the idea, make it like the end section of Blood Dragon and I'm sold.

WB Games is going to owe me some serious pants cleaning bills by the time I'm done with this game. I only keep getting more and more excited as we approach launch, and playing it will be ever better. Ugh..... GotY for sure, and it can't come soon enough. Part of the reason I opted to import DQXI was to ease the waiting time for this.

Dat nemesis system tho..... Eat your heart out, sliced bread. I love everything about it, and it's so fleshed out here that I can't imagine any mechanic ever being cooler. I really like the scope of this one too, over the last, where it's a full blown civil war and you've got a proper army waging a legit campaign.

This trailer was really hype!
I'm hoping Talion gets corrupted and in the sequel you have to kill him!
I don't even know what half of these monsters are in the Tolkien verse but they look cool!

I constantly see people wishing that devs would go all in on gameplay systems instead of graphics. Now one is, and there's incessant complaints (not just you, that's been a constant refrain). Monolith can't win here. I'm sure it will look fine on Scorpio.

But, I mean, I don't think it's unreasonable at all to expect updated gameplay systems AND graphics. I don't think I've ever seen anybody saying to FORSAKE graphics in favor of gameplay systems. Honestly, those are different people working on the two things.

Is there a reason that they can't use Shore's score from the movies for the game? The last game didn't have it either. Awesome trailer though, but it would be more awesome with the fantastic score the movies had.

Not sure if I can get behind an appearance by Ungoliant that can transform into a woman. She was too far gone even before the twin trees to probably be capable of doing so. Granted, it has been 14 years since I've read the Silmarillion, so I could be mistaken.

Can't see any of her daughters like Shelob having the ability either given the parentage.

Yeah, lore is probably out the window outside of name drops, but I'd rather new characters and roles come into play between all of that than upending the table.

If you're attempting something like castle sieges, then yes, forsake the graphics. The Empire series(Dynasty Warrior) is a great example of that. They look like ass, but they do thing that I can't get anywhere else. That' exactly what this is shaping up to be for me. A western Samurai Warriors Empire, and there's nothing wrong with that imo.

Function over everything else. I want the game to be as ambitious as possible gameplay wise.

I thought my decision to wait on this game was already made. But after this trailer I'll be ordering the gold edition.

Yo this shit looks crazy as hell.

Totally in.

Third one needs to go complete pants on head and just have fucking Morgoth be the big bad.

Then Eru takes corporeal form and comes in to lay the smack down. Seeing the supreme being, Morgoth rewinds time and makes a secret pact with Manwe, Ulmo, Aule and Tulkas so that by their powers combined, they can become Captain Vala and challenge Eru for mastery of the universe!

I'm a huge Tolkien fan and I'm really exicted about this. Sure it's non cannon but that doesn't matter at this point since we won't be getting any new "cannon" stuff any time soon besides some things from Cristopher Tolkien.

I loved the first game and loved even more the Bright Lord DLC. This is my first pre-order into 2017.. (Oh wait, second taking in consideration I've pre ordered Splatoon 2)

This is a great continuation to this new franchise.

Please for the love of Sauron do not make Talion overpowered again when he reaches first half of the game please

So disappointing to see yet more racist complaints about this game. We ALL as humans came from Africa.

I'm playing through the orIginal again. I forgot how much fun it is to be surrounded by 30 orcs and 3+ captains.

Kind of underwhelmed. Character models look like a mixed bag

They looked very average which is weird because the first trailer looked AMAZING. I wonder if there was a downgrade?

Also, another ring? Geez come on...

I don't know but I saw something even rarer: a black person!

Serious question, are there black people in the middle-earth lore? The haradrim are more middle-eastern but do they mention in the books about any other human races? Excluding orcs, elves, ect. This isn't meant to be a "but it's not in the lore!" question either. Just curious.

Yeah it would be pretty great if they were able to mix in some of that great stuff along with the game original music.

They're alluded to but not really shown. Basically the thing to keep in mind is that 'middle-earth' itself is only a small corner of Arda (the whole world, aka, ancient Earth). Harad itself isn't actually too well detailed in the books, and it's men are described to have 'swarthy' skin - so they're darker in complexion, but that doesn't necessarily mean just middle eastern like the films depicted. Especially considering 'Far Harad' is where the Mumakil come from, and it's covered in jungle - it's the Africa analogue.

Tolkien, while he detailed much of his world, also had a deliberate method of omission and in universe 'theorising' when it came to areas that weren't relevant to the core story. The result makes it not unlike historical mythologies in that regard, vaguely alluding to 'distant lands' as the origins of mysterious creatures and warriors.

In fairness, I'm only betting it's Ungoliant rather than one of her children (which hey, you never know), but seems like the idea that, once you get past the inherent issue in having Ungoliant show up at all, makes the most 'sense'. Whoever this woman is, she's clearly meant to be some kind of rival and potential threat to Sauron. Tolkien's lore being what it is, there's not many female characters that could actually fit that mark. Ungoliant however can, and would also permit the devs to both escalate the story, but also award themselves some brownie points for diving into some deeper lore than the movies, which is exactly what they did with Celebrimbor to begin with.
