Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: costume redesign?

I mean, unless they decide they all wear exoskeletons, or/and are cyborgs, they need not to look like beefy Halo Spartans. That defeats the whole design aesthetic of the show. These guys are martial artist, who use mostly their hands and feet to rock monsters, aliens, and robots.

Yeah, the brightly colored spandex suits are a core part of the Power Rangers/Super Sentai aesthetic as much as they are for Star Trek.

Maybe you could meet in the middle and do something like the artificial muscle suits from Crysis or Gantz.

Yes. The suits are meant to highlight the movement of the actors. Otherwise you might as well do cg or full-on animation.

sides they did Halo before Halo was a thing

These deviant art designs are terrible, they make them look like bulky space/aliens. The current designs are good because it allows movement, for them to perform their martial arts. Having access to a bigger budget would produce much nicer suits given that Sentai is made with low cost in mind. Every time you see a bulky armor upgrade suits in PR like the battlelizer upgrades they normally just stand there shoot lasers cause they can't move. Some good armor type design from PR/Sentai are the Akibarangers designs. Of course ignore the hair helmet design if you don't like it as it was a parody show

Thats what I was saying.
AkibaRed's suit is a good armor design that isn't overdone or too bulky.

Oh shit, is this Winspector?

but this suit is perfectly fine cause it open up the joints for combat movements.

Yea I quit watching after he couldn't handle him without pulling out his sword. White Ranger couldn't even handle one guy one on one without resorting to weapon. tsk tsk tsk

Criminal they never brought the full Dairanger suits over

This is my first Sentai that I'm currently two-thirds of the way through, and I LOVE IT. It's so much more serious and dramatic than MMPR, every character has a distinct personality and is important, yet it is still fun, goofy, and sometimes creepy. The martial arts action is top notch though.

Anyway, I concur, these suits should have made their way into PR somehow.

The original MMPR suits were perfect. Iconic and simple with touches of fucking DINOSAURS.

It horrified me when the movie made them animals like apes, frogs, and bears. I'm sorry, but that was such a motherfucking step down.

The animal theme didn't really affect the suits except for the emblem on their chest. But they only had that in the movie anyways.

Well, it definitely effected the Megazord.

Also, can anyone explain this to me? I was at JC Penney, found this awesome throw-back MMPR shirt, was all ready to go buy it, then noticed a small detail. The motherfucking dino emblems were not there. It was the animals from the 95 movie... plastered to the dino MMPR suits:

Like. WTF Those are clearly the dino helmets... and instead of that bold Red Ranger T-Rex emblazoned on the front... there's a chimp!? It's insulting. Was it some licensing compromise? I'm mainly upset because I was so excited to rep my childhood. I was ready to put money down to support the best team and design in the franchise, imo, but instead I get a subtle difference that left me befuddled.

The second season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is when Saban started getting custom footage that used the zords of the next Super Sentai Series but kept the costumes of the one before. (MMPR Season 1 = Zyuranger, 2 = Dairanger) The White Ranger is from that next season as well.

They actually kept it going for even longer and used those costumes with the Zords and bad guys from the next season, Kakuranger. It wasn't until Power Rangers Zeo/Ohranger that they synced things up and started using the original Super Sentai stock footage again.

Yeah, the ape, frog, wolf, bear, and crane are the mecha from Kakuranger, but they were still used together with the suits from 1/2 seasons before.

Saban probably mixed the series together to keep the rangers themselves as iconic as possible at the height of the show's popularity.

I may have missed season 2 of the show entirely if they really did have the animal zords but the dino suits. I just remember the first season and then the film. This shirt looked like it was trying to merge the two, but... those helmets hahaha

Actually, they shouldn't have even put the emblems on them. just left the diamonds white. I would have loved that. :c

They shot themselves in the foot doing that as well, since having a show that refreshes itself each year still be associated with the show of one particular year effectively cripples the entire thing. When you think of Power Rangers, what should come up be a group of people in color-coded outfits with giant robots; not Jason, Tommy, Billy and Dinosaurs. That ruins any new iteration in the public eye, simply because it's different from that.

Can someone just explain me the relation between sentai shows/power Rangers? i'm confused :(

Power Rangers films scenes with American actors, and then splices it with footage from Super Sentai while dubbing it over.
The costumes, the monster fights, the giant battles, all taken from the Sentai.

Fun fact: Zyuranger wasn't Haim Saban's first choice for Power Rangers. He showed interest in bringing over the 1984 season, Bioman
There were also plans to make the first season the one prior to Zyuranger, Jetman (which is considered one of the best seasons by fans)

Even before Saban, Stan Lee showed interest in bringing over the 1981 season, Sun Vulcan. Imagine a world where Marvel produced Power Rangers.

Zyuranger, 1992: Provided the costumes, zords, and bad guys for the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Dairanger, 1993: Season 2 of MMPR used this series' zords. (Thunderzords) Toei shot new footage for Saban using its monsters and one of its rangers (white) together with the main five from Zyuranger.

Kakuranger, 1994: Season 3 of MMPR also used this series' zord scenes without many changes. The costume stuff got even weirder, since they introduced new costumes entirely unique to season 3 of MMPR. The costumes from Kakuranger were used in the "Alien Rangers" mini-series that bridged the gap between season 3 and Zeo.

Ohranger, 1995 = Power Rangers Zeo, custom footage and mixing of different seasons is basically done at this point. They're back to doing stuff the way they did for the first season of MMPR.

Oddly enough, our Power Rangers seasons actually got dubbed and aired on TV in Japan. A lot of long time Super Sentai fans thought it was cool to basically see a video remix of a series they loved as kids with new actors and a partially rewritten story.

Like... Think about what it would be like if there were secret seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation with partially re-written and re-shot scenes that also included Spock for some reason. That's kind of the appeal of MMPR in Japan.

You haven't lived until you've seen the Power Rangers movie's Japanese dub

Eventually they should redo the un-morphed scenes with Japanese actors to complete the cycle and make a true oroboros of remade, re-dubbed, re-shot meta madness.

I don't know if this is true, but I heard that one of the early plans for Power Rangers Samurai (this was after Saban got the rights back from Disney) was to simply dub over Shinkenger.
Considering how Samurai turned out, they might as well have done that, wouldn't have made a bit of difference.
