Mighty No. 9 Trailer - E3 2014

Was hoping for a 2D art style like the concept art, but i dont have a choice but to get this...need to scratch that mega man itch.

Atrocious art style still makes me sad.

If only it had looked like this:

Wasn't it announced from the start that it'd be a 2.5d game? I never once expected this to be 2d, I'm pretty sure even the kickstarter said 2.5 using 3d assets.

Either way this game looks fantastic.

Oh dear. This is a little disappointing. I really expecting something more like the artwork. I have sadness in the pants.

Looks okay but the music is pretty meh and the 100% combo thing is way too big and distracting.

It's probably still early development so there's still hope.

man, the game itself will probably be great, but the way it looks is... not great. I wish it looked closer to Azure Striker Gunvolt.

I said this before, but it strongly resembles the GameCube Mega Man game Transmission. To me it looks pretty bland.

ya that's a good way to describe it.

10 months from the earliest possible release date, I'm not too worried about the polish.

i thought mmx8 was ok and enjoyed maverick hunter x, so i don't think it being 2.5d is the problem. but this game looks really bad. in a best case scenario, i could see myself buying this for 2 or 3 usd on a steam sale and trying to beat it once, possibly not even finishing it

to me, it looks like they really wanted to work on azure striker gunvolt and made this more because of the easy money. or they're just that uninspired, i don't know. too bad gunvolt is 3ds exclusive and this is multiplatform. they should've done the opposite

I'm always down for a spiritual Mega Man successor and I'll definitely give it a chance but what I've seen so far doesn't really hype me up.

I remember seeing this when the kickstarter started and thinking 'damn, that style is great' then upon seeing the first screenshots 'Damn, that looks like shit in comparison'.

Im sure the game will be fun but if i had backed it i would have felt a bit pissed.

It's a shame, but I think that Azure Striker Gunvolt looks a lot better than this. Being in 2.5D really brings Mighty No. 9 down. I'm happy to admit I'm wrong if it turns out looking much better than this though.

Cripes. Guys, this game is still deeply in alpha. They now have it at a stage where they can steer the little guy around and start doing some game-like stuff, but that's all. The title is far from finished yet.

...and whoever thought that the artwork was indicative of the final product was not paying attention. These guys do not have the ridiculously deep pockets of some big publisher behind them. They had a kickstarter campaign for a reason.

Had not seen this yet OP so I appreciate it.

That said...oh man...oh man! I want this game fucking now. Just finished a run through of all the games from Mega May, great memories coming back and I want more. Mega Man lives!

What an unsightly art style.

Yeah, I'm affraid I have to agree with this, after holding back my judgement before when they showed alpha footage.

For me classic japanese games were about three things: solid gameplay + controls, catchy music and (simple, yet) eye popping, colourful visuals.

So far, Mighty No. 9 seems to be checking the boxes of one and two but be severly lacking in the third category, especially as far as the levels are concerned. I'm really hoping that not all the stages will look like quite drab and plain looking urban environments with grey overtones like what we see here.

A real shame if the game will turn out playing and sounding like a nostalgic dream but look bland and lifeless. Maybe some effects and additional colours could spruce it up? Or some better parallax effects perhaps?

I'll still keep track of this, but at this point, I'm much more interested in Gunvolt (which looks better in pretty much every way).

I made sure to read what I was getting before I backed it, so I'm quite happy.

Yeah what the fuck happened to this style? Even if they made it using the same sprites as Megaman X4 I would be satisfied.

Why do devs think they need to force 3D where it doesn't belong? I'm honestly not impressed with the "2.5d" look

It doesn't need to look exactly like the concept art, but it also doesn't need to be bland as fuck. Even if it's not 2D art it has practically none of the elements that the concept art had other than the character/area designs.

Isn't 2.5d a lot cheaper and less time consuming than 3D? X4 had a lot of animation. I'd love that, too, but would assume it's beyond the scope and timeline they have in mind for the project.
