Miiverse account restrictions extended to the system level

Yeah, that thread pretty much validates my point.
At least the worst case scenario is not able to post on Miiverse so at least you don't lose game access.
You're not banned from online. You're just banned from miiverse posting.

It does have consequences on games. For example, if you are banned from Miiverse, you cannot share Mario Kart TV highlight reels. For this reason, I find this policy stupid.

That's true, parents need to be vigilant with any online device they give to their kids. Duh, right?

But I see your point, I'm sure there are plenty of parents who don't even know their kids 3DS and WiiU can access the internet, because they don't expect it from Nintendo.

Yup, no matter the situation parents need to understand the device just as much as thier kids but in reality it doesn't work that way.

Parents just let their kids do whatever. I see kids and even parents buying their kids COD, etc.

You dont get banned for one violation, if you get moderated a couple of times then a ban then what do you expect?

As the population of the WIi U grows, moderation is going to get tougher and tougher. This will help out loads.

Really? How do you switch out accounts on WiiU? I didn't know you could do that..

I dont know if its switching them out I just make multiple profiles for each family member. I think I have the only actual account on there. Me n my son probably.

I'm kinda hazy about how the account system works on the Wii U. For the PS4 I had to do all separate accounts. Made transferring saves during system transfers easier. I dont think I need to for the 360.

Then I expect to be able to use all features of my games that are not directly related to Miiverse.

Uploading to youtube is tied to miiverse right? This change was done after MK8 was released. Spending money to patching MK8 because you/family member decided to draw dick pics is kinda ridiculous.

No. From day 1, two successive prompts (Upload to Nintendo Network? Upload to YouTube?) have been present in the game. Making the Nintendo Network/YouTube upload dependent on your Miiverse status is an idiotic system.

Makes sense since accounts are free on Nintendo consoles.

Also, consoles marking other accounts was done on the 360 and PS3.

With the lewd stuff Splatoon's Miiverse has been throwing at me recently, I'm not surprised now is the time they're choosing to toughen up with their restrictions.

Best update.
As a parent, honestly this sounds like a great thing to me. The pressure from the rest of the family will help keep the kid in line.
That's how I look at it as well.

Klick on your Mii in the upper left.
I can't be the only one who had a laugh while reading through this thread, right?
It is rather depressing.

Do you regularly make lewd posts in the first place? Seems like the only people who are complaining are the people who the system is aimed against anyway.

I wonder if this is a direct result of how bad the Miiverse stage in Smash ended up being.

It was nearly unplayable with certain characters.

Unplayable? Reading the stupidity was half the fun! Especially when in a room with a bunch of friends, which I typically am if I'm playing Smash. Cracking up over the silliness was a blast.

I had tons of posts removed during smash after dark mid last year, people would flag u endless when u talked about shrek or Ridley.

kinda worrying, place should have some fun

I haven't been banned since 2013, so I'm still alive. I don't share my Wii U with any siblings either, but if I did, then I wouldn't want them to get penalized for something they didn't do. This is dumb.

Haha, "depressing". I love it when people throw this word around.

Sins of the sibling...

"...all accounts that use the same 3DS system"
Wait, were people seriously nuking their eShop purchases, streetpass progress and whatever else they have (f2p stuff, patches) just to troll on Miiverse using a 3DS? (AFIK the only way to sign out is to format the system...that doesn't free said NNID to be signed in elsewhere :S and also since all eShop purchases became part of that NNID...)

Yup....I have at least 4-5 accounts on each console I have for my family. And 1-2 accounts for some that just visit from time to like like a cousin, nephew, etc.

Oh well. Thanks Nintendo... :-(
If these ones never play online there was no need for an NNID and hence risking miiverse bans.

You don't get banned immediately, you get a couple warning first. I would rather kids learn their lesson than to see messed up shit in Splatoon and Smash.
If you say "I'm 12 and what is this" that can be an outright ban for being underage or just a ban from mature communities (I'm kind of worried the "I'm a Kid" Miiverse posts on Splatoon could be interpreted the same way by the sometimes overzelous moderators).

The moderators are the scary part of this. Other examples of activities that could get you warned include mentioning Project M and the many examples of not marking anything that comes after the title screen as spoilers. Heck, the post-completion title screens for MK8 or Splatoon could be classed as spoilers :(

On the other hand the place is crazy so needs to be really heavy handed. I still think timed bans can have a place now. Like perma ban the problem user then temp ban the console for 3 months and maybe have posts auto moderated for users on that account once the ban is up.

Really? How do you switch out accounts on WiiU? I didn't know you could do that..
There is an icon on the home menu on the Gamepad. I think the Mii icon in the top-left.

if people divorce, who gets the wiiU?

Settle it in Smash

Custody battle!

I'm certain a court has had to deal with account ownership before.

Though, it certainly wouldnt be as much fun as the Beanie Baby divorce.

Sounds fair and decent way to cut down on all the lewd stuff that sometimes gets posted on Miiverse

Imagine this, but with Amiibos! lol

Hopefully this applies to those that go "First!". My biggest pet peeve as a dev making new announcements...
If you're the one making the posts, you can delete comments on your own posts for whatever reason you like; it'll just say "Deleted by Original Poster" instead of "Deleted by Administrator".

Don't make inappropriate Miiverse posts and you have nothing to worry about.

This is an awful change, and it goes far beyond making "inappropriate" posts.

Miiverse moderation is currently based on user reporting, and the mods always side with the reporter. If you are an active poster on miiverse, you will eventually get reported for something. It's quite common to be reported for "bullying" if you disagree with someone.

And what exactly should be considered inappropriate? I know a few users who have been modded for posting screenshots of Nintendo games. Or modded for drawing characters wearing the exact same thing they wear in the games!?

Oh I do... I also sometimes set my Dev Miiverse account settings back and forth between "all comments by everyone allowed" and "only comments by those who have the game/etc" based upon if I'm making posts that address everyone in general or more if the post/news/update/etc is more applied to the users of my game.

I tend to just "report" the more annoying spam comments to the Miiverse Mods. I try not to delete that many myself, as it usually ends up with the kids getting all angry and more spammy. Like posting in my post "HOW DARE YOU!" :lol

The only problem is malicious reporting coupled with either fully automated or completely brain-dead (hard to tell the two apart) administration. Otherwise I'd have no issue with this policy change whatsoever.

I've been falsely reported once and fortunately I was able to appeal and it was reversed. So, yes, it's happened to me.
