Miiverse - How has this not helped to make the Wii U a hit?

Because like most features that Nintendo brings to the market, it sent it to die the day the console was released. Like the rest of the OS, it's slow and lacks basic features that should have been there from day one. Also like the rest of the Wii U Nintendo barely talks about it.

Miiverse is constantly being updated with new features, and more and more games are starting to use it in pretty cool ways.

Plus user-created communities should be coming soon, which is neat!

this is a good illustration of the problem. Check even the communities for mediocre or bad games, and the comments are still mostly overflowing positivity nonsense. I scrolled the Batman Blackgate list and found only two comments criticizing anything, the rest were either asking for help, directly attacking those who don't like it (one comment attacked critics for saying the game sucked), or jizzing all over the screen about how awesome it is.

This is the least interesting form of conversation that exists on the planet. People love to be unchallenged, I guess.

did you really just go to a game you think is bad and judge miiverse based on whether or not others agreed with you?

here found one for you

do you like miiverse now?

Well, not everyone buys consoles to troll them...

You have a point but I could levy the same criticism against the PSN ratings system. Every single game seems to be between a 4.5 and 5 star game with a few exceptions. I think that it's kind of natural when you have a community made up primarily of the same enthusiastic fans that there will be very little room for naysayers.

Miiverse as a whole can be kind of a mess, but there are great ways to filter it. Just check the top posts and then follow anyone who might be interesting and you'll get plenty of cool drawings. But other than art, it's not really that great.

It's integration into game is cool, but when actually going into miiverse itself, it's really all about the art.

I like some of the implementations, but it just boils down to a set of forums. It's not all that interesting. I found it quite novel at first, but not much beyond that.

Apparently neither is Nintendo if they were trying to create a fast and easy way to access help. Miiverse is anything but fast. Ofcourse I'm not surprised you ignore this fact.

I see people post for help and before I can reply(if I feel like it), their problem is answered.

This happens on a regular basis.

Easily faster than it would be to look online for the help.

Man, sometimes I wonder if people intentionally don't read posts for fun.

Here, I'll help you:

Guess which post was one of the two? The one you posted!

I have a Wii U, so I don't need to actually check that link to know what I'm saying is accurate. I was simply pointing out that this is something that people who don't have a Wi U and Miiverse can click on and view to illustrate the problem I personally have with the service, and what many others have with the service. It's basically the world's most irritating fanboy haven.

But, that said, there's lots of doodles, and it has utility if you're the type who needs to seek help often. But since I don't need to seek help often and I have better venues for drawing, it's basically only the irritating community that is left.

Sounds like a PS4 thread on Neogaf.

Quick tour of the PS4 PlayStation Store shows over 800 ratings for Last of Us remastered with an average score of 5/5, 92 ratings for 4.5/5 on Amazing Spiderman 2, 355 for Child of Light for 5/5, etc. etc. (There's a theme here...)

Overly positive vomit inducing behavior is not something you can isolate to people on Miiverse.

maybe it's just me but I don't see how people being generally positive about games is a negative. there's always gaf for the negativity ;)

Hahaha this is like a parody post of a GAF reaction to Facebook. "Everybody isn't negative all the time, so I hate it." I like Miiverse's "positive" elements but not because I don't like to be "challenged." It's just a nice change of pace from the constant negativity you can find, oh I don't know, literally everywhere else on the Internet. I actually don't give a shit about Batman Blackgate either way, but to cite your example...we all know Blackgate is mediocre. You can go anywhere and see low to middling reviews, people talking about how bad it is, etc. So to me it's actually sort of interesting to see people who like it and are able to express that without being drowned in opposition.

The attacking critics thing is another story, but that's an Internet problem not just a Miiverse problem.

Wasn't this supposed to get user communities?

Wii Sports and Wii Fit have user communities, and Nintendo said MK8 will have expanded community features over 7 so I'd say they'll just Miivese for it.

Though if the MK8 Communities are region locked like the other 2 games I'll be pissed!

I've only used it on the 3DS and its implementation on that platform has not inspired me to buy a Wii U. It may well be great on the U but the cackiness on 3DS may be doing it a disservice.

Guys just because someone doesn't like Miiverse doesn't mean they therefore must like PSN's rating system. But, for the purposes of this discussion, I'm pretty sure a silly star rating system was a far smaller investment than Nintendo's Miiverse system, and it's also far less intrusive. But I don't look at PSN's rating system either, I just go on GAF and ask you guys what you think of games. :)

I don't need everybody to be negative all the time. I do, however, need 99.9% of all posts not to be rainbow jizz. Just me.

I sometimes check it out on the Wii U but rarely(if ever) on the 3DS.

It's just so sloppy and ugly on the 3DS in comparison.

oh, you shouldn't be surprised, you can find the same thing right here on GAF

Miiverse isn't a forum or a twitter/facebook thing. It's just a community hub where people can go and enjoy a specific game together.

Why would I use a social media network that's only functional on a video game console when I could just use Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Reddit, etc.

For people who post on GAF, you guys love to shit on it.

NeoGAF is not a fanboy haven. That's the whole reason it's awesome. Fanboys exist on NeoGAF, but there's a huge diverse selection of community ready and willing to push back against their claims. NeoGAF is fucking awesome.

Because it's not a feature many people care about. It's just heavily moderated forums. It's more convenient to get help by looking stuff up on the internet. It's more convenient to chat with people in a forum-like way on the internet. Yes, the game intigration is kind of cool, but not cool enough to sell a system.

Also, this. It's about sharing your experience of a game and asking advice and stuff. It's not really for serious critical discussions. Personally I find myself wishing I had a similar service on my other systems. Even the social feature on Steam feels disconnected. Maybe I'll like PS4's social features but so far I haven't heard much that makes me hopeful.

Well, i'd say one glaring problem with it is Nintendo's insistence on trying to build an online community without compelling online games. It's actually strange that they built an online-only and community focused feature, but they're completely lacking in online games. Bring an MMO like DQX to the states and you may have guilds forming on Miiverse. Or teams forming for shooters, racers etc. But there's pretty much a a complete lack of any of that on the Wii U. There's obviously CoD, but realistically speaking I think everyone knows that most people are playing that on PS and Xbox platforms.

or a smart phone/tablet to connect to the internet and get the same info just as if not quicker...

This is where miiverse fails for me. I just bought animal crossing and found a perfect fruit. I simply ask Google and get info about it in less than 3 seconds from pasuing the game.

Going to the animal crossing miiverse takes way more time and only pulls up a stream of drawings and posts like "Viva Animal Crossing".

hahahahahaha.

i guess you don't know what 'haven' means. It means a place where fanboys are safe, a refuge. Fanboys are not 'safe' on NeoGAF. They're banned all the time when they get out of control, and there is a huge portion of the community that frequently push back against their claims - including your own.

Can you show me these user communities. Maybe I was wrong, but I thought wii u owners would be able to build their own communities like, say... "Neogaf users community" for example.

I don't see Miiverse as a selling feature but more of an after the fact that you bought it and realize "hey, this is nice" kind of thing.

That only happens once they step outside of their insular communities.
If they don't.....lol

Hey, I wasn't even suggesting that I was just pointing out that it's not that strange. I just hope that no one is using either community to actually gage the quality of games. You may as well just use the Amazon ratings while you're at it :P

i think its great, but it really needs to be more like twitter.

"Yeahs" and followers are basically meaningless. They should blend the game communities with a twitter-like timeline so people can follow other people and .. and... well, it would be great a game-focused twitter

If it makes you happy to think mods aren't diligently checking those too, then be my guest. I saw behind the curtain so I know what goes on.

Anyway, we're getting sidetracked. If Miiverse was like NeoGAF, it'd be awesome. I do wonder however if Wii U was a success, if we might have started to see more diverse communities.

Yeah! for you Mr Samurai.

The way it's set up, as soon as you make a post, it disappears as the boards get flooded with everyone else's posts. It's basically set up for fly-by posting where you post once, maybe get a response and then your post is forgotten about within minutes. It's just not very engaging.

If I didn't go on GAF, I would never know that Miiverse even existed until actually buying the Wii U. Nintendo doesn't seem to advertise it at all.

Nintendo doesn't advertise anything. Look at Wii Sports Club or Karaoke, both could be system sellers but no-one knows about them.
