Miiverse - How has this not helped to make the Wii U a hit?

I've got at least two things around me at all times that allow me to discuss videogames on the internet in a much quicker, more enjoyable way than miiverse. The Wii u is a neat little system with an awful user experience. It's so sluggish and the system really deserves better.

The fact is, a gaming only social network is useless to me. Only Facebook and twitter matter in my opinion.

That's because there isn't a Vita only message board and it is obviously down to you to create it.

Think of all those poor Vita owners who don't know about GAF and can't get solace from Japanese sales figures? What are they doing, how are they coping? A good many probably aren't coping at all. This should be on your conscience Dave! You are their #champion, just as Vita is yours.

It's time to create the Vitaverse, Dave. If Sony aren't going to do it, you will have to take the lead.

how in the hell a wiiu miiverse thread ended with people writing stupid things about the vita?

Well, I am not a big fan of using Twitter and Facebook. But I actually kind of like the idea of having something similar that is system dedicated, while featuring it's own wacky and weird personality that also encourages everyone to have fun and be cool. I just find that to be a very appealing approach, but that's just me.

I've been saying for a while now that the Miiverse is a killer app, the opportunities it creates are just awesome and I fully expect Microsoft/Sony to adopt a similar system as time goes on.

I adore how it centers discussion around specific areas/aspects of a game and gives players a way to communicate with people beyond their friends list without leaving the console ecosystem. Amazing idea.

There's definitely cool aspects. Everyone having the ability to draw is really neat. I think if the system had REALLY blown up, and maybe had like streaming options, Miiverse could be huge. The Art Academy community is great.

That is part of what I am seeing and is why I said I was amazed that it has not caught on. It looks like something that really sets the system apart and draws people together into a weird and charming little universe on the system. But apparently most hate it, so there you go.

Miiverse is kind of a creepy Nintendo echo chamber, and the way Nintendo employees personally moderate every post on the service is nuts. But I like some of the pictures.

I tried Miiverse for a little bit when I first got my Wii U. Found it slightly amusing, never bothered with it ever again. Personally I don't see the appeal, but I admire the dedication some people have to making wonderful art with its limitations.

Oh, and getting a random Miiverse drawing on-screen of Mario shitting out bowling balls or something in Wii Sports is pretty funny.

Miiverse is a goldmine!

A lot of you keep saying this, but really, I don't see it in any of the game communities. Can you guys point out where the Nintendo circlejerk is in any of these:

95% of the posts on Miiverse are completely useless and generic "this game rules!!" type stuff. A small percentage of people do interesting drawings/artwork but it's not worth wading through all of those shit posts.

I have used Miiverse on the 3DS exactly two times since it went live.

It's stupid and it's pointless. It's a poor man's / baby's first facebook monitored by nannies.

My feelings. I went on the 3DS Miiverse several times and it seemed like a bunch of kids were talking about how great Mario is. I'm glad that these folks have their own platform though.
I guess Twitter integration would've been more worthwhile.

I wouldn't say its a system seller but its a nice little app. I like the way people can help each other out at specific points of a game without fear of being spammed by idiots. I've helped people from time to time and I like that aspect. It also adds to the feeling of experiencing a new game by being able to see how others are enjoying it or struggling with particular levels. The NES Remix 2 and MK8 replay features should compliment it well also.

Mii verse provides a lot of odd kid comments and that's about it.. It'd be neat to see GAF users' comments exclusively on levels which could in turn form their own smart discussions on micro bits of the game. But at the moment it's children saying weird shit.

It's the kind of thing that would be popular after the Wii U would be popular, not before.

I have a Wii U and pretty much avoid Miiverse whenever I can, turning off all options possible so I don't have to see the annoying shit that pops up or whatever. The problem to me is the environment is not conducive to engaging discussion, it's basically quaint doodles and fanboys and excessive moderation.

And that to me is a big stumbling block anyway.

This. It's not all that great a feature.

It's a neat thing you check out once in a while. Definitely not a selling point.

I remember the moderation on the Official Nintendo Forums.

I got banned for sharing my friend code. It was against the rules to share friend codes on the official nintendo online forums. Later on you could get banned for sharing your code through private message.

That one is actually kind of sad. Poor kid.
I don't know, I always feel like he means that his parents are fighting a lot while playing the game with him. He finds it entertaining when they argue about something pertaining to the game.

I love Miiverse! Found out on there that a lot of girls love Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I've gotten people on my friends list by talking about games on there (like Need For Speed). I can't wait to see what Mario Kart 8's community will be like when it finally releases.

People don't buy consoles for add on features (see Netflix).

But they do. (See PS3 Bluray, Ps2 DVD).
But Miiverse is cool, but bad advertisement make the Wii U not a so much good console in the eyes of the consumer who still think it's a Wii Add on.

I've never really looked into it. Not entirely sure what tins apart from users posting random comments about a game.

Is it like a forum?

Unjust play the games.

MiiVerse is cool to find out if you want a game or not. Not everyone likes Nintendo on there, and most of the die hards on there just lament how much greater Nintendo would be if they just did Fps games with blood. People will be honest if they really don't like it, the swath of mobile games showing up proves it. People hate Evofish and kept me from buying it. It doesn't even have off-tv even though it says it does on the eshop. I only know that because of MiiVerse.

I'm pretty sure my activity on the SplinterCell community is partly responsible for Ubisoft slowly pulling support.

MiiVerse is really what you make of it. I just follow the interesting people and then just check my activity log every couple of days. Be sure to follow WiiUNews, the guy is legit, and I usually read his posts with my morning shit.

The Wii U OS is so slow and clunky that it is a pain to navigate and use it. So I only do it rarely. Plus Miiverse is so bare bones. Much easier and better to use forums on your computer/tablet/phone.

import a 3ds and game from japan but you cant read japanese, if you are stuck , ask a question in english in the japanese miiverse, they will answer, is specially good for niche games .
Fixed the step. Just onwdering does this get much of the "ha ha stupid foreigners" (I remember with Star Fox 64 high scores people found the Japanese scores were much higher so simply asked why that was and that was the initial response, eventually they got the info they needed though...).

My favourite implementation is in new super Mario Bros U.

If you died in a level there would be posts from people who died at pretty much the same point. Usually comical.

I really don't like the introduction of stamps. Makes all the posts generic. Much prefer crappy drawings and ridiculous posts.

Its also nice to see what people are enjoying about particular games.

I see people post for help and before I can reply(if I feel like it), their problem is answered.

This happens on a regular basis.

Easily faster than it would be to look online for the help.

This statement is so laughably, hysterically false that I just now realized that you're a joke character. You've had me fooled for a long time. Nicely done.

You know, I was going to come on here and defend Mii verse, but this post. This goddamn post Like would it kill him to tap the internet browser icon right next to the miiverse one on his game pad and find out who the hell Mega Man is?

Also, and I never though I'd say this in a million years, given my hatred for 'social networking' sites in general but: Miiverse needs Twitter/Facebook integration if it wants to be a successful word of mouth tool for the Wii U.

That was hard to say. I kinda threw up in my mouth a little while typing it out.

On the bright side, at least they're asking for hints here instead of outright watching a youtube vid or looking up a guide for the answer.

Edit: Pauly's response

I got my Wii U a few days ago but it wasn't till yesterday that I really paid it any attention. I still haven't had a proper go with it but just playing through Super Mario 3D World and seeing Miiverse posts along the top of the screen after completing a level and seeing everyone's reaction to it is awesome. Especially with the addition of stamps.

Before I played when I saw screenshots of Miiverse posts like it, I thought people were just super artistic :L

I got about 5 days of on-and-off fun out of the 3DS Miiverse. I don't think it's that compelling, and mainly because actual social contact is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Make a friend on there? Too bad.

the newest trend is "Why are you releasing this game, Nintendo??" in 3rd party eshop games communities

In a way, Miiverse is a good symbol for what's wrong with Nintendo in general.

Isolated community, seemingly unaware of very similar, earlier, better services that everyone has access to all the time anyway, it treats every user as if they were a child (which many are, but still)... as far as I'm concerned, it's pretty much a completely useless disaster.

Any resources spent on it are resources that aren't allocated to something which I might like. It reminds me of Playstation Home in that way.

Not enough adjectives.

It's quite simple, you ask for help and you get replies very soon after.

You can also use screenshots too and ask about them.

If I asked for help in a game, I'd much rather do it there than use a computer.

I think it's a pretty neat feature, although I'm not sure it's really a selling point.

I like how it's integrated into games. It's not nearly as laughably bad as the PS Home app. That thing was just lame. You had to load the app and it wasn't integrated into any games. I think the miiverse is quite a bit better. I've only played a couple of wii u games, but I thought it was pretty good in zombiu where you could leave a note to warn other players of zombies or ammo, etc.

Yeah the equivalence is there.

I don't really see the appeal of a closed social network that functions kind of as its own (cludgy) app on the console. I think it would have been better if Nintendo integrated Facebook and Twitter with a Nintendo twist, like sharing screenshots, distinct community pages, and drawing capabilities.

Unyeah.

Seriously if I'm having an issue with a game I'd be far more inclined to use my PC where I can articulately type out my problem than use miiverse and use the game pad keyboard.

The in-game implementation of Miiverse is surprisingly well done, but as a mode of communication it will obviously closed off and heavily moderated to keep the environment kid friendly. I do wish the console had twitter or tumblr support to allow use of the gamepad's sketch feature outside of miiverse.
