Miiverse Update Thread 2014 (Wii U, 3DS, web) -

Member
So, I've decided to make a Miiverse Update thread, where people could just find changelogs and pics for Miiverse updates (for all versions). Reason for that is so there can be a central place for such announcements, for those of you who don't often check Miiverse announcements. And since most updates are rather small, making a separate thread isn't really useful as it tends to get buried pretty quickly, and go almost totally unnoticed. Of course, this thread doesn't mean there won't be separate thread for major updates ("new thread for new news" rule still apply after all).

Miiverse updates :

December 21st (all versions)

- you now have to chose a tag before posting. Before, it would go with the default tag, but now you HAVE to pick one (to avoid messages getting the wrong tag). [Wii U / 3DS / web]
- they added a link to the gamepage at the top of each community.... in Japan. Requires a Nintendo Account. [web version]

December 9th (all versions)

- you can now enter a title when posting a discussion
- the discussion section of a community now displays more discussions

November 26th (Nintendo 3DS version)

- only displays up to 10 posts in your Play Journal, 15 posts everywhere;
- fixes an error some users were encountering

Announcement post (not in English right now): https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkpNyMlUg

November 11th (all versions)

- you can now attach screenshots from your Screenshot Album to posts and comments in the Discussions section (before, you could only do so in the Play Journal and Drawings sections).
- you can now post your saved screenshots as comments in the In-Game Posts section.

October 7th (web version)

Redesign of the web version of Miiverse.

More details: click here!

Screencaps:

August 19th (all versions)

1) you can now post screenshots in the Drawing section of a community, via the Screenshot Album;
2) new filter for the Discussion section of a community, allowing you to only display Open discussions.

July 29th - Major redesign (all versions)

More details: here!
Some clarifications: here!

May 20th (all versions)

1) from now on, only the last post of each of your friends / users you follow is displayed in the Activity Feed. Makes loading slightly faster, but more importantly, you shouldn't get any old posts in your Activity Feed anymore.

2) now there's a link to a user's posts at the bottom of each posts in the Activity Feed.

February 19 (all versions)

February 5 (all versions)

3) you can now see a list of recommended users by clicking here: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/recommended_users

January 22 (web version)

Undocumented change: you can now see the last comment of each post directly from the Activity Feed.

December 17 (Wii U / 3DS)

Undocumented change: You now get a message if you have saved a screenshot and you're about to post in a community. When you access Miiverse while in-game, and that game allows screenshot, you get a message telling you you can post a screenshot. Pretty neat feature, but not mentionned anywhere.

November 19 (all versions)

October 22 (all versions)

September 25 (web version)

Undocumented change: you can now follow people back straight from the notification page.

September 10 (all versions)

August 27 (web version)

July 23 (all versions)

July 9 (all versions)

Undocumented change: Now, when a post Yeah'ed by a friend appears in your Activity Feed, there's a button allowing you to follow the poster.

The Italian translation of the "patch notes" contained both the "Verified by user" new feature and the "Software Played" feature aswell... are you sure they ain't on the list by marty already for every other country? O_o

^

Verified users are developers/Nintendo employees and such.

Patch notes are here!

There has been an update to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Miiverse today.

1) We've added a community search feature. Select "Search" on the bottom-right of the Communities screen to search for communities. Just enter a game title (or part of one) in the search field and you'll get a list of all the communities related to that game.

2) You can now see a list of posts by verified users. Select "Posts from Verified Users" at the top of the Communities screen to display only posts by verified users.

3) You can now see a list of communities for the games you've played. On the "Favourite Communities" screen, you can now switch between displaying "Favourites" and "Played". Select "Played" to see a list of communities for all the games you've played on the Nintendo 3DS system or Wii U console you're currently using (if they have a Miiverse community).

4) You can now mark a post as containing spoilers even after posting it. If you forget to tick the Spoilers box when posting, you can now go back and do it later. You can also mark other people's comments on your post as spoilers. Just select the spanner icon on the bottom-right of a post or comment, then select "Set as Spoiler" (the other option is "Delete").

5) You can now attach screenshots when posting to your activity feed. If a certain game has a community which allows attaching in-game screenshots to your posts, you will also be able to attach screenshots from that game when posting to the activity feed.

the complete changelog is live

Do they mean in the comments ?

Great idea for a thread. I'm happy to see further improvements to Miiverse. Keep 'em coming, Nintendo.

Thanks for the update, OP!

Great thread

I wish miiverse was more like twitter

With the "activity feed" being the user timeline, first thing to show up when you log in.

So the idea of "following people" could mean something

And also, instead of trending topics, trending games

Soon ill make a Mockup of this

Wait, by posting screenshots to the activity feed does this mean i can now take as many screnshots of 3DS games that i want without having to worry about spamming the hell of a community? If so, that's awesome.

Isn't that how it is though? When I log in miiverse without a game, the activity feed shows up.

Changes not mentionned in changelog : new icon telling you which console(s) the community is for (PC Version)

Great idea, subscribing. The icons have been there for a while now though. Also thank God for the "Software used" tab, now I can stop adding every community to my favs.

Btw: How are they ordering the communities in "Software used"? It's neither by alphabet nor purchase order, it seems totally random.

Well, that's how it works on PC! And I'm pretty sure it's the same for the console version, though it's not the default tab.

Yeah, looks totally random. Not chronological order either.

So no private messages on 3ds and web browser?

Those are probably never coming... not until Nintendo stops being paranoid about online interactions.

Oh, Nintendaan made us neat little video : YouTube.

I guess my old thread has run its course, then!

I missed the last update thread, but it's cool that there's popular posts by date.

You know what would be nice as a future feature? If we could get digest emails.

Ok, there's apparently an update for Miiverse today, the web version apparently. I'll update the OP as soon as we get the official changelog from Marty ;)

That's an odd change. Defaulting to the activity screen made more sense to me.
So no private messages on 3ds and web browser?
I just want to be able to save my drawings from the private messages to my PC already. Come, Nintendo. I promise they are perfectly pure and clean.

I guess it allows them to promote more games that recently came out.

If you could give the URL of Marty's posts in addition to the screenshot that would be perfect. <3

Ok, there seems to have been an update for Miiverse today. Only change I've noticed so far is that the list of posts by verified users is now available in the web version too, not just on the Wii U / 3DS.

Thanks norfair for the heads up ;)

Paraphrased from my post in another thread:

Nintendo basically ruined miiverse today. You have to wait 3 minutes to comment on any posts that aren't your own. They've effectively removed the "social" from social media.

What the hell is Nintendo thinking? You can't even comment on a different person's post, you just have to sit there twiddling your thumbs for 3 damn minutes.

Really?

That sucks
The wording made it sound like you couldn't sit on the same post

But not being able to jump between em

I wonder what the reason for this change was. Hopefully they can at least reduce down the wait period... 3 minutes is ridiculous.

It sounds like it was supposed to be the same post. Maybe being unable to comment for 3 minutes hard lock is unintentional? There's only a minute between regular posts, which I would imagine is harder in on the server.

Supposedly, it is to stop users from spamming other users.

But that's a stupid reason. We already have the tools to block annoying people.

Heck, if this was really a problem for a few people, let them have more options to control commenting in their own threads/profile. But don't ruin miiverse for the rest of us.

Yeah, but even waiting 3 minutes on the same post is ridiculous. I comment on someone's post, they ask how my day was, and I have to wait 3 minutes to answer?

At the very least, you should be able to respond immediately if someone else has responded since your last post.

This is probably a response to people that do stuff like spamming on Sakurai posts.

Is this a common Miiverse interaction for you? I have posted a lot on Miiverse - not one person has ever asked how my day was.

Have they ever added a way to post screenshots for your games that don't support Miiverse? Like, say, Project X Zone, which doesn't have a community, but I want to be able to post a shot and then pull it off the web version.

It seems like I should be able to, since screenshots on the 3DS Miiverse occur on the OS level and there being an official community of them shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not I can, say, post them somewhere for myself to get off the web.

Is this a common Miiverse interaction for you? I have posted a lot on Miiverse - not one person has ever asked how my day was.

I have nearly 1000 followers. Yeah, some of them ask how my day was. You don't ever have conversations with people on miiverse?

And I'm following 1000 artists, and like to comment on their sketches (the better ones, anyway) as I go thru my activity feed. Can't do that anymore, at least not without waiting 3 minutes between each comment. I don't have time for that crap.

Miiverse is one of the few things Nintendo has done right in the past few years, and now they've basically ruined it.
