Mind-numbingly tedious things you did for no real reason

ive probably killed martyr logarius like 200 times.

i did nothing but help people kill him for like a week. you know fun boss fight but it got boring and i dont know why i did that.

I did a lot of stupid tedious stuff because it was a prescribed thing to do in the game or an achievement, but I guess the one that stands out that I did of my own volition was in the original Deus Ex. At the end of the intro mission you're faced off with an NPC named "NSF Terrorist Leader". I knocked him out and carried his body through the whole game, because bodies would persist through loading transitions -- even ones that spanned the globe. I just did it because, I dunno, I wanted to see how far I could take him, and I managed to get all the way through lugging his unconscious body slung over my shoulder. I just loved that it was a thing that I could do in the game, so since then I've tried finding other games where such a thing is possible, but I have yet to find another.

In FFX when you can first leave Luca after the mandatory Blitzball games...I stayed and beat the entire Blitzball league out of pure addiction.

I remember when I finally beat the whole thing and decided to continue the story, for the next few hours I was an unstoppable force because of how much I leveled my characters grinding for money to keep my roster stacked with the best players lol

I am shame.

The flags in Assassin's Creed 1. I had a spreadsheet and a map I'd mark off with a sharpie and everything. I don't know why.

The extra 45 hours of Mad Max that I played after seeing everything the game had to offer in the first 5.

It was just something I did while listening to podcasts, never could have done it otherwise.

Been clearing out every scavenge location in Mad Max after I just beat Act IV.

Everyone will feel my pain. Nobody gets to live.

Man, you didn't get amped after the end of Act IV? I was hot and am going to relish the final act of this game.
This right here. I went around clearing all the camps and scavenge sites. There is literally no need to do the scavenging sites. None whatsoever. Not to mention that the enemy variety in the game is really poor and the combat system, while fun for the first little bit, is ultimately pretty basic. About 40 hours of my life that I wish I could get back, in some ways.

And no, after Act IV, I was just happy for the game to end. The story was really basic and, IMO, forced. You really had no reason to care about anything that happened to any of the characters, no matter who they tried to make you care.

Years ago, I'd gotten 100% completion on all three save files and maxed out all my lives in Super Mario World out of sheer boredom. I had literally nothing else to play at the time.

Oh yeah, I definitely did this. I was only able to afford one or two games a year back in the SNES era, so I played the hell out of the ones I had.

Getting as many shine sprites and blue coins as possible in Super Mario Sunshine without using secondary nozzles. (I think for the underwater diving segments I still used the hover nozzle because that's technically the "primary nozzle" at that point, but whatever)

Also getting over 100% completion in Spider-Man 2.

Probably getting the "Kill 250,000 players (Bloodthirsty)" achievement in World of Warcraft.

The High Warlord / Grand Marshall rank was silly enough on its own... but for some reason I also played another decade after that, killing everyone even more.

...Lotta wasted time there.... I'll never get those years back ..heh ..heh... ....

I made multiple max powered "snapped" cursed weapons in Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together.

Recruit a character.
Max their stats.
On specific levels in Palace of the Dead a specific enemy may drop a cursed weapon.
Equip cursed weapon on character. Take them into battle and use "Snap Dragon" skill.

Your character is now gone and the cursed weapon has taken the character's name and soul. The power of the cursed weapon depends on the one sacrificed. This means the weapon's stats and perks depend on the one sacrificed. I used a spreadsheet to narrow down what I wanted then I trained them up.

To max their stats you feed them food items. To get food items you recruit monsters and auction them. Eg. Recruit dragon and auction to get a dragon steak which gives +strength. Some stats are determined as the character uses the skill so you can have them wearing specific items to boost it further.

I made two of these fuckers and was half way through the third despite my team being so powerful that many of my stronger characters are able to solo maps. I used a spreadsheet and my first character I got fairly far before I worked out I made a mistake. I couldn't achieve the weapon I wanted because I used the wrong race so I had to restart...

Seriously 2.0 in Gears 2, was bored that day

Trying to beat Ninja gaiden mentor difficulty with only ninpos

Pandaren intro quests 8 times then delete the character afterwards because it looks ugly and made another in a different class

Collecting every flag, and killing every Templar in Assassin's Creed 1.

I missed one, and had to check every location multiple times before I was able to find it.

This thread is awesome.

My best contribution is probably finishing boss-only runs of the first three Mario & Luigi games, meaning I fled from every random encounter. This meant every boss battle took way too long and required precisely timed inputs every turn so I didn't immediately wipe. The final boss of Partners in Time took about 8 hours, or more than half of the total playtime. I was sick that day so I'd play for a while, pass out, and then continue. I was so glad when it was over, since again, any missed input could have wrecked all my progress. I got nothing for doing these. They're not even my favorite games. I just did it cuz I could I guess.

Pick pocketing named weapons in fallout 3. Lots of reloads.

Currently looting stuffed turtle supply packs in dying light to level up, while listening to pod casts.

Leveld up Alucard to max in SotN; took so long even with tricks.

I played through SotN for the very first time a little over a year or so ago and I fell in love with it. I grinded for every piece of equipment which I never do in games, and I had to talk myself out of spending the dozens of hours necessary to max that special blade - muramasa, was it? TBH I kinda regret NOT doing it.

Doing 7 day survivor twice. One the original release and on PS4...

If anyone checks my cheevos and trophies my god I wasted a ton of time...

Grinded up a Treecko to a Sceptile in the first route before you help Wally catch a Ralts in R/S

Actually I think my friend did that, but still

My entire FFIV team is wearing adamant armor. Everyone who can equip it is wearing onion sword and shield as well. Actually surprised looking at how low the game time is, it was probably the most soul crushing boring shit I've ever done in a game.

This was enjoyable, but I leveled up every playable character in Dragon Quest IX to 99 in every class. I don't remember why exactly but I think it was necessary to do a few classes multiple times. Also leveled all the legacy bosses up to 99. I also bought a second copy and played through the beginning of the game until Street Pass opened about 30 times or so to max out my inn. I would run chest timers and hoimi tables for ultimate equipment crafting and drove to another city to meet someone for a metal slime map. Literally hundreds of hours poured into this game.

That's awesome dude. I never thought about doing that in Deus Ex. In Half Life 2 it's a famous challenge to bring Dog's ball as far as possible, dunno if you can bring it all the way to the end of the game. There's a similar challenge in episode 2 where you carry a gnome.

I spent easily over 100 hours on Pokémon X breeding a whole lot of perfect IV Pokémon for competitive battling and then when I had my team assembled I lost interest in the game. Biggest waste of my life

You know, that pointless time-wasting shit you did in a game just because you apparently had nothing better to do.

I remember getting up to Lv. 99 in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon by sliding in and out of the last room of the Battle Arena over and over again to fight the Devils there. We're talking a few dozen hours of just grinding that one room. It was completely gratuitous, since Lv. 30 is more than enough to beat Dracula. And I wasn't even that young at the time either, so I don't have any excuse.

Weird, before clicking this thread I thought about circle of the moon. I think I beat one area without the gadget that was supposed to get you through it. I dont really remember, i think I was missing boots to unpoison poisoned water or something.

I maxed out the stats for all the characters in final fantasy 10. Then I deleated the save right after and never played the game again.

Before it was patched out in Everquest you could kill the skeleton guards in Paineel and sell their sword and shield so I would "camp" the city and just do that for months (among other EQ stuff but I would devote a few hours a day to this) I didn't even really make much money either.

My younger brother did the same thing, I remember him also showing me how if he ran to the last boss he could more or less one shot the whole end game boss section.

I do remember the endless hunt for summons or something? and trying over and over to beat a metallic/dark Yojimbo in a cave of some kind?

Edit; oh wow it was juat PAL versions
