Im actually shocked there isnt a thread about this show on Neogaf :lol

Anyways the show hasnt aired on [Adult Swim] for awhile now and the series all together only got 13 episodes before WB had to be idiots and cancel the series. Every episode that aired for this show was great and a classic. Anyways what did you guys think of this series?

We should revive this show like we did with Family Guy and Futurama!

I bought the dvd set recently and watched through the whole series, and the episodes with commentary. Apparently the plan for the series (if it survived long enough) was to have the characters grow and mature throughout the series. They said that by the tenth season, Andy would begin his career as a professional cartoonist, but not before getting fired from several jobs throughout the seasons.

No, but there have been several threads in which people discussed AS shows or animated sitcoms, and there were several people who mentioned enjoying Mission Hill.

Don't know why [adult swim] air Oblongs instead of this. Not the best show in the world, but not utter crap like Oblongs is.

Oh man I haven't seen this show in years, completely forgotten about it.
Really ought to track down the dvd set, it was a pretty awesome show.

One of the few things I remember was the older brother getting a keyboard and colour-coding the keys, then kept describing Beethoven's 5th symphony as "red-red-red-blue, red-red-red-blue". 5 or so years later we had Guitar Hero.

I really really hope this series can be revived

For those who are considering a dvd purchase, be warned. It has some very noticeable audio issues, but it's only in a few episodes. For example, all the music was changed to avoid paying for royalties. Some of the episodes are quieter than others, and some of the music is haphazardly placed which makes it difficult to hear dialogue, and sounds very sloppy. Fortunately, those problems aren't in every episode.

I would like that, but it probably will never happen. There were a few more episodes planned before the cancellation, but never reached completion. I've heard that animatics for those can be found online.

Penis Pervert :lol

Also I like how Kevin's voice actor got a part in Star Craft II

I love the scene when Toby is being chased by the rabid dog, and when he's forced to abandon the pay phone with his mother on the other line that man picks it up and says "penis, penis, penis, penis". You just hear her scream as he runs. :lol

Love the entire Toby being chased by the dog :lol but the penis pervert part of that scenario was also epic.

This is one of my favorite short lived cartoon series ever. Love it when AS plays it every now and again.

Seriously wish it never got canceled. This show had tons of potential.

Seems all good shows get canned :(

I was playing Starcraft 2 and a friend said that the guy who voices the scientist did voice work in this show too.

edit: I should read threads.

Finished watching the DVD set (for the first time) 2 weeks ago. Very entertaining series, a shame it went for such a short time. And in the commentary on the DVD the creators said that they had the whole storyline decided:
Andy would change jobs every 6 episodes or so and then would finally make it as a cartoonist
; it would be nice to see all of the story unfold.

Criminally underrated. If only this and Clone High had made it. :(

Oh hell yes, two masterpieces.

We were lucky in Canada, where these and a few other short-lived great cartoons were repeated ad nauseum on Teletoon for some time (and still are). I have as a result become quite the fan of a few short lived cartoons, but Clone High and Mission Hill stand above most of the others. I would have loved to see both continue. Especially Clone High, which ended on a cliffhanger.

If I had a billion dollars I would seriously use some of my money to rehire the entire cast and crew of clone high to make me another season. And probably mission hill too.

Clone High was absolutely incredible. The writing on it was sharp as a tack. I've seen the episodes multiple times, but I bought the DVD set anyway. BTW, Teletoon was eager as hell to produce a second season, but couldn't do it without MTV's share of the funding. Same with Undergrads. Times have changed, though, and they seem to be able to produce shows easily on their own now. (Flash, ick, really has brought down the price of animation.)

Mission Hill was also incredible, but I won't buy the DVD set simply because of the missing music.

Oh, and MTV's Downtown was criminally underrated too. You can get an unofficial DVD release directly from the guys who made it.

I thought the show was great as well - certainly the early 2000s was the height of adult orientated animation in America.

couldn't have said it any better myself

also, i love how the voice of the penis pervert is the same guy who does spongebob...just plain funny

I've heard the rumors that Clone High was cancelled not because of ratings or anything like that, but because a lot of the nation of India took extreme offense to the portrayal of Gandhi.

I've long suspected that's why [as] has never been able to get its hands on it, because it seems like such a perfect fit.

The voice of the ewok actor in the episode with George's sister is done by Tom Kenny, and he uses a voice which is very similar to Spongebob.

Man, I missed this thread way back. I intentionally bring this show up every chance I get and and somehow I miss the dedicated thread. Anyway, Mission Hill is one of my favorite shows. It had style and heart that I still think is unmatched when it comes to animated television, and had story progression when every other animated shows focused on the whole "and everything returns to normal" thing. I hope that Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein make another show now that "Sit Down and Shut Up" is dead, they should both be free for something new.

Now that that's said, I come bearing gifs.

They STILL show that fucking show? I remember thinking "man, they've run this into the ground" ten years ago :lol

Fantastic show. At some point I watched one or two of the cut, but partially done episodes, and they were just as good as the main show. They had all the voice acting (but it was in a group studio so they were given directions and would talk to one another when not actually presenting dialog) and animation was just bits and pieces from their story board, but it was still really funny to watch.

The style of the drawings and the tone of the show were so great, it's really sad the show had to go away. I'd love a revival, but y'know... never gonna happen.
