Mission Impossible Rogue Nation Teaser

MI2 is where tom cruise decided to make a generic tom cruise action film by apeing the Mission Impossible name. Thandie Newton was sexy though.

The motorcycle chase gives me MI2 vibes. I think that's an underrated action flick, but whatever. I get that people hate it.

Besides that action beat, it looks like a fairly Ghost Protocol-esque affair. That was one of the best action films in recent years, so I've actually got pretty high hopes for this... Especially with the release date being moved up.

I've really enjoyed the Mission: Impossible movies with the exception of 2. I love how different they all feel. Also Christopher Macquarrie directed Valkyrie which was a really good thriller, so I'm on board for this.
He only wrote Valkyrie. Bryan Singer directed it. They were teaming up again after doing Usual Suspects together.

I'm in, these are fun movies. Glad to see I wasn't the only one getting MI2 vibes from this teaser though.

Hmmm, the buzz on this production feels like it's been all over the map (a difficult but worth it shoot to a 'fix in post' mess) but I'm definitely open to seeing Cruise in whatever he's in.

However Rogue Nation, as a subtitle, feels much weaker than Ghost Protocol.

Cruise might be a crazy person but I realized that I pretty much enjoy the vast majority of his movies and so I'm hyped for this.

Apparently, on a one to one basis, he's actually very personable and pleasant.

So I'm told.

he's really hanging off the airplane right

Yep with wires of course. He does all.his stunts.

He didn't have wires in MI:2, nor when he was dangling from a building. Cruise is that insane.

I enjoy them a lot better and have a lot of respect for the guy after learning he likes making his own stunts AND watching him do Les Grossman. He might be insane, but he's a very good actor.

Remember when this franchise wasn't simply James Bond with more sidekicks? I want the espionage and intrigue of the first movie.

Looks cool. Ghost Protocol was a ton of fun, so I am curious to see how McQuarrie tops it. I thought he did a good job on Jack Reacher, so let's see how he does with a bigger canvas.
He also directed Way of the Gun, while a smaller film had some good action. I'm sure he will do fine.

I want the espionage and intrigue of the original tv series. Some of the plans were so ridiculously elaborate, but in a good way. It was always great to see how all the pieces were coming together in the end. And the reveal when the bad guy was realizing he's been had never got old.

But fuck those damn rubber masks...

3 had the best villain of the series in Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Unfortunately it also had the worst third act of the series, which drags it down a bit.

2 had some good moments, and a great soundtrack. But the problem was that the entire thing felt like an American film ripping off a John Woo film and watering it down. Sadly, it was John Woo doing it to himself.

1 has some great stuff in it, particularly the heist in the computer room. It just bugs me that they made Phelps the bad guy in the end.

Ghost Protocol was the most fun. It had some great action sequences, and I liked that they embraced just how crazy all of the stuff is. It didn't take itself too seriously, and it was the first film in the series to actually feel like a team effort instead of the Ethan Hunt show.
No way in hell is 3's third act worse than Ghost Protocol's.
