I hope this isn't the end of Rebel FM, but I guess I can't blame you Americans wanting to get Mitchy D the hell out of your country. I wonder if it's Eidos, Ubisoft or EA that he's going to.

Why are people automatically going to Bioware as a second choice after Ubi when Bioware is like the 4th biggest studio in the city?

Edit: Beaten by imbask

I love how Montreal is only known for Ubisoft haha

we also have WB, Square, Bethesda, and a billion other companies ;)

Yeah, but Ubisoft seems the most likely to hire a journalist to run some new gamer centric community thing or their PR arm in general.

Mitch is great! I hope whatever he's moving too is great. I'll miss him on Rebel FM, although I kinda honestly hope they just call it quits. He basically saved the show

It often seems like journalists use writing for publications/websites as a stepping stone into the industry.

I did the same thing. It's pretty common, people in the press/media portion of this industry are there because they love games and they love the industry. It may not be your initial intention, but eventually you do want to dig deeper into the rabbit hole.

People from the press transferring to the games industry always struck me as strange
Its because its the only way up for them.
Most "journos" can't support a family in San Fran/other expensive city in their 30's.
There is no other place to go for them then into the industry.

That is just the main problem with all enthusiast press in any industry, once your "done" and made your "mark" you move up to that industry because you have no where also to go.

Life in the USA is just to expensive and not enough job security not to take these kinds of jobs.

LOL

Mentioning he's leaving IGN, fine. But using this as a springboard to find your girlfriend a roommate to your 48 thousand Internet followers is probably not the best idea, especially because you're moving to another country.

He's moving out because of this job and she will need a new roommate. What's so awful about him reaching out?

Wishing him all the best in his endeavours. He was unique for me in that I disagreed with him probably the most often out of the IGN folks. Not a bad thing of course, more variety is a good thing.

Why would you advertise it to the internet? The same internet that makes death threats to notable "grills" daily?

Plenty of people post roommate ads on the internet/ online. It doesnt mean you are giving your address out to them all. Just canvassing a larger group for potential finds

I actually like Mitch Dyer a lot. I'm interested to see some new blood at IGN.

It really isn't. It's pretty common to see any journalist move to PR. It helps a lot to come from a journalist background(You know people and what to expect) and it's almost always much better pay.
