So, he's going to try and convince the people that voted for him that now support Trump to please not destroy the GOP.

...worth a shot I suppose

How far has the GOP fallen now that Romney, someone who the GOP didn't even like, would be seen as more desirable than any of the candidates currently running?

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but MSNBC is reporting he'll be delivering a speech on “the state of the 2016 presidential race."

So basically, a televised opinion piece from someone who hasn't been relevant in 3 years. Okay, then.

He's going to try to attack Donald so it can be the focus of the debate tomorrow night. He will probably hit all the points kkk, trump university, secret tape, etc when the only thing he truly cares about is him not being beholden to the Koch brothers.

I hope he runs.

With him as the nominee (as unlikely as that would be) I could at least vote for a republican. But I'll vote for Hillary over Trump or Cruz.

He should get up there and after one minute of generic speech he announces his candidacy. Then the chair of the RNC gets up and immediately announces Romney as the GOP nominee, followed by a "fuck you Trump", followed by a bass drop, followed by a light show and dubstep.

I want this to be a put things in perspective, raise the stakes kind of speech. The establishment's entire plan to defeat Trump has been to whine and complain about not being able to defeat Trump. Rubio has started attacking Trump on his terms, but somehow he doesn't seem very good at telling small penis jokes, and I'm not sure what his plan C is.

In general, Trump has benefited hugely from a vacuum in Republican leadership. I'm guessing that's Mitt's primary motivation for jumping in this way. I want to hear him make an intellectual case not merely against Trump's candidacy, but about the future of the party. If he does a good job, perhaps he can at least focus and elevate the conversation a bit.

It's time for Mitt to show the world that it has long underestimated his gifts for rheortic and oratory.

I'm hoping he'll at least say he won't vote Repub if Trump wins the nom.

I'm not voting for Trump. I'll take Hil over him... Sad to say.

Full Oppo dump in advance of the debate tomorrow to put Trump on his heels for the entire debate. Rubio won the late deciders in the past week and this is going to be the Full Monty. The establishment is going to do to Trump what he has done for the entire process. Ignore the paid media ads and get free airtime. They are going to dump everything that has been pulled together over the past few months to get it all out there.

Establishment will take Hillary over Trump as they know he will be worse for both parties.

I half-expect Romney to show up at the debate, state: "Unlike Mr. Trump, I'm going to die having earned more money than I've lost," show him his nuts and then leave.

I'm expecting a shock and awe campaign against Trump starting tomorrow.

I also expect Palin to hit Trump with a steel chair turning on Trump then Melania and Palin to catfight across the stage.

Seriously though, he'll probably ask Trump to release his tax returns and the NYT to release the off the records tapes.

I think they should go further, and ask all media, to release ALL off record statements. I mean, everyone would be happy, right?

This would be great news for Democrats but the Republicans have to know that this would be an even worse situation than what they have now. Trump is their best shot at the White House and I think he even has a pretty good shot at winning. Dividing the vote between Romney and Trump would guarantee a Hillary win. I'm predicting nothing special coming from Romney.

Oh man, I can only wonder what's going on behind closed doors among the GOP elite. Who knows? We might see a third political party in our lifetimes.

GOP likely sounded the red alert after yesterday and is trying an establishment rally with every available hand against Trump.

He won't run. They don't want Trump in the WH because it will destroy their candidates down the list. They care about maintaining the House and Senate and there is no chance Trump will help anyone down ballot. They would rather put a damaged candidate in office and lose the WH than run with Trump (still lose) and get crushed down ballot.

Half hour reflection on the establishment trainwreck & rise of Trump so far. Rhetorical "how did we get here?" questions peppered throughout him lamenting how the race has proven that there's no more room for moderates in today's GOP. Uses pulbic opinion of Romneycare/ACA to paint himself as a man now without a party.

Ends speech by announcing he's going Dem. Chaos ensues.

Why do you think Trump has a pretty good shot at winning?

Ftfy. God damn I need this to happen.

damn trump really has these guys trembling at the boots, the billionaires working these politicians are going all in but i think this is just going to make people want trump even more, guy has the gop straight up shook.

It's fucking ridiculous that Mitt Romney seems like a fucking moderate compared to the looneys competing for the GOP nomination this election

Romney is still relevant to politics, despite not being in the public eye. He maintains one of the largest Republican donor pools and in 2014, all of his endorsements went onto win their respective Republican primaries.

He was all but begged by the Republican establishment to run again despite repeatedly denying that he would, and up until about 2 weeks ago, had better odds on the political betting websites than all but 4 of the Republican candidates who were actually running campaigns.

Not really. Romney was governor of Massachusetts. He's one of the most center-right prominent politicians in the US. The idea that he was some arch-conservative was a combination of him pushing right on some issues in the 2012 primary, and then Obama's effective re-election campaign. Prior to 2012, the major dig on Romney was that he wasn't conservative enough. It was a tactic used against him in both the 2012 and 2008 primaries.

R-Money is dropping a new mixtape?!

He's got a binder full of women and his homeboys do too.

On topic, I might actually vote for a third party Romney. My only problem with him last time was the Republican platform, not so much Romney himself.

Do it Mitt, give us at least one decent option in this shit show.

The Establishment throwing their support behind Hilldawg is beyond nuclear. I can't see that happening en masse at all.

The Elephants can't get mad at Trump when his campaign is the child of a strategy they've relied on for the better part of 60 years. Don's just honest and straight faced with his embracing of hatred and bigotry instead of relying on dogwhistles, code, and underhanded election tactics.

Mitt Romney will announce that he is Donald Trump all along and Donald Trump announces that he is Mitt Romney all along. The good ol switcheroo
