man i leave 5 days because of the hurricane and all this stuff happens!!!

i think we all need to see this for what it is- randy has taken a year off and he really should fight SOMEBODY before he fights nog/mir for the real title. who else are you going to have him fight at heavyweight? cant fight herring because he just lost, cant fight kongo because he just lost to herring and his last win was against dan evenson (who is horrible), so why not give him lesnar in what could be a fairly interesting and exciting matchup?

everyone knows that lesnar is not deserving of the fight, but at least they are not making the headliner a matchup like liddell v jardine. at least this fight will have some real interest associated with it. what would you think if they made the fight randy vs jake o'brian, or had brandon vera hop back up to HW to take him on with 2 straight losses at HW? or what if they even brought in mark coleman to face him? maybe you could put him up against werdum... but how do you think that would sell compared to a fight against lesnar? as sad as it may sound, i see lesnar as the best opponent for him with nog/mir tied up. say what you want about brock, but from what we have seen so far the dude is not going to be a cakewalk for anyone.

and, again, i dont know where in the hell fedor falls into all of this garbage. keep hoping that he will get a deal in the ufc? one rumor going around is his contract with affliction is for fighting in the US only, so what if they fight in the UK? *shrug*

So seems like Wandy vs Rampage 2 may be on the same card as Couture vs Lesnar.

If so, the UFC is looking to break all fucking records and use the huge numbers as a draw for all this negotiation shit.

Regardless, that would be an insane night.

if the dean of mean can outpoint chuck to a decision, i think forrest could do the same, i wouldnt count griffin out in that matchup honestly
 
Forrest vs. Chuck will be the biggest UFC ever. It will outgross Couture Lesnar, especially if the other matchups are solid. It's a combination of the two faces of the UFC in one headliner match for the title.
Unless of course Rashad wins... then it's the TV Season 1 vs Season 2 showdown and will be on Spike. :P

Sad news to hear, but anyone who really followed Tanner kind of saw a premature death coming. Sooner than I thought, and not how I thought (I thought the bottle would eventually get him), but I wasn't surprised. I'll miss the guy tons, though. He went through a lot of personal hardships, but always was able to work his way back to the UFC and respectability. Even when he was clearly outclassed, the guy fought with a warrior's spirit. RIP.
 
man, i just saw this news this morning to. what a shame! the guy has been a little bit crazy these past 2 years, so i can't say i am to surprised. its just to bad, i wanted to see him succeed in the octagon one more time.

What part of Chuck eeking out a win against an (at the time) out of shape Wanderlei, losing to KEITH JARDINE, getting knocked out by Rampage and suffering a loss by decapitation at the hands of Rashaad makes you feel this way? By the way, Chuck got dropped in all of those fights. Although his chin's isn't what it used to be, his defense is. And that's horrible news for Liddell, seeing that everyone has figured out that you can't take him down but he can't effectively attack you (what with his love for throwing uppercuts from outside the pocket...really!). His one dimensional strategy of stuffing the takedown and counterpunching your face off when you get frustrated while leaving his chin sticking out and unguarded is common knowledge and outdated.

Unless you hear about "The Iceman" going to train under Greg Jackson, he's done. That Hawaiian Kempo shit is done, and as long as he's with Hackleman, he's done. Chuck is actually worse off than Tito is at this point, IMO. They both have skills that are falling further and further behind the up and comers of the MMA world, but at least Tito still has a head the size of Andre the Giant's to fall back on. Believe you me, I'd like to see Chuck get it together, but I'm not sure he has it in him at this point to humbly rework his game. I mean, SHIT! He's still sticking to the "I got caught" routine instead of admitting he has obvious holes in his game. Doesn't sound like a guy who even has a clue.

That's the difference between Couture and the rest of the older guys. He loses, he admits to himself and the world what happened and gets to the business of reworking his game.

Forrest has zero power and his chin is more than questionable. He wouldnt knock Chuck out. Period.


I dont care who Chuck lost to.. you can play MMAth all day. Styles make fights.. and im positive Chuck would beat Forrest Griffin.



Protip: Forrest also lost to Keith Jardine.. actually he got knocked the fuck out by Jardine and bawled his eyes out running back to the locker room. So maybe you shouldnt TYPE KEITH JARDINE IN CAPS TO PROVE A POINT.

Liddell vs Silva is absolute madness. If Chuck keeps his hands low and his chin in the air like he usually does Anderson would KO him in about 30 seconds. I would give Chuck to Shogun when he comes back. Rua has been out for a while and will probably be a little rusty, could make for an interesting fight.

Chuck moving up to heavyweight would be the best course of action though IMO, at least until Fedor arrives in the UFC.
Also I was listening to a Sherdog podcats and they suggested that Chuck may have pissed and shat himself after the KO (this is just a rumour.) Poor guy, no wonder he didn’t stick around to speak to Joe after the fight :D

Yeah he totally has a glas jaw. I mean Jardine only had to hit him 25 times to put him out. Oh wait that didnt even put him out. Forrest's jaw is just fine.

Affliction Leaves Las Vegas: Event Postponed The Oct. 11 Affliction event scheduled for the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas has been postponed, Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed Wednesday to Sherdog.com.

Affliction contacted Kizer on Wednesday morning to inform him that the event would be moved to a January date at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Advertising for the Oct. 11 pay-per-view event had already begun, including in New York, where scheduled headliners Andrei Arlovski (Pictures) and Josh Barnett (Pictures) were featured on a billboard in Times Square.

Arlovski’s management said they had not been contacted by Affliction with the cancellation as of this morning, and were “shocked” and “extremely disappointed” by the news.

Arlovski -- who delivered one of his more rousing performances of late with a third-round TKO over former IFL standout Ben Rothwell at Affliction’s first event on July 19 –- signed a non-exclusive, three-fight contract with the new promotion in early July. He had spent nearly eight years with the UFC, where he was a former heavyweight champion.

Arlovski’s management declined to comment on their fighter’s next move.

“Andrei was six weeks into his 10-week training cycle. He traveled from Chicago to L.A. to train for this bout, which he very much looked forward to,” said one of his representatives.

Calls to Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio were not immediately returned.

Protip? How does a guy who doesn't check low kicks, defend his chin (which is getting worse each fight that goes by) and constantly waits for a counter punch opportunity have the style capable of beating any of the new crop of guys? Chuck USED to have the ability to sprawl out of anything, the ability to counterpunch you to sleep and a rock hard jaw that made the first two points even worth mentioning. But this was before people figured out you don't try to take Chuck down. I'm sorry, but what can Chuck offer on the feet Rampage couldn't? Chuck checks fewer kicks, has FAR shittier boxing and a weaker chin. On the subject of chins, Chuck's been one hit and and quit in two of his last four fights and dropped in all of them. Can you say the same for Forrest? Does Forrest have the power to put Chuck out with one punch like Rampage or Rashaad? No. But Chuck's defense is so porous that the accumulation of strikes that he WILL take will begin to wear on him. But what Forrest lacks in power, he makes up for with having a smart gameplan and a varied attack on his feet.

looks like the big announcement by affliction is that they are partnering with golden boy promotions. they are even going to have 2 mma/boxing cards. i see this being a huge disaster. mma fans aren't the most patient people on the planet and them having to sit through 2 or even 3 boxing matches to watch their favorite fighter isn't going to be pretty.

My first instinct is that the boxing crowd and the mma crowd have diverged (if they were ever even the same) and this doesn't seem that appealing.

* Golden Boy Promotions and Affliction Entertainment will promote events that will feature both first class boxing matches as well as top notch MMA bouts on the same cards with the inaugural event planned for 2009.

Affliction can take its boxing and its crappy bands and its ugly fucking shirts full of skulls and old english lettering and fuck off. Not only will I not pay for their show I'll help as many others people as I can not have to pay for it either.
