dammit leben, i am disappointed too. but now this clears up any thoughts that the UK shows go untested, which is something i kind of was suspicious about.

Nice to see that the UFC is actually serious about this stuff. They did all the testing themselves (as there isn't any in the UK) and dinged one of their bigger draws.

Testing is very expensive also. So I am impressed.

I'm not a big fan of Kang.. think he is wayy overrated... but any new talent is good in 185.
Kang and Lawler are good additions to the division.

There were also rumours that the UFC was interested in Akiyama.
Kang's cool. Just never top 5. Go on a win streak over average competition outside the ufc and the fanboys make you a top tier fighter. Yeah, I'm talking about Shield and Lawler here too among others.

Filho missed weight for his title bout, so now it's not a title fight.

Also, Big John McCarthy is back as a referee. Woo! It didn't feel the same without Big John.

he didnt just miss weight..

he weighed in at 192! :lol

the title is worthless anyway seeing as theyre getting rid of the division.. so who cares if its a title fight.

but my god.. 192??

Wait so Sonnen still has to go through with the fight, but won't get the title if he wins? That's lame. It'd be much lamer if they weren't on the cusp of being transferred to the UFC where the WEC belt would be moot.

Whats the point of making weight for a title fight in a divsion that no longer exists? Having this fight in the WEC is pretty pointless. It should be a prelim on a UFC card.

you have to remember, this card was supposed to happen back in september but was canceled due to a hurricane, and that was all prior to the announcement that WEC would be moving all their LHW and MW to the UFC. filho not making weight is really disappointing and does not bode well imo for this fight- his first fight in over a year, and this would be a big coming-out fight for him before he makes a move to the ufc. we will see if he has his stuff worked out in his head.

here is an old, interesting grappling match with filho that is kinda worth watching.

Five rounds.

Sonnen lost with seconds left in the 2nd on a controversial stoppage. If this one goes 3 rounds to a decision I am going to be disappointed.

I know. They should have just cancelled the fight. There are so many other good fights on this card worth watching instead of wasting TV time on this fight. The fact that Cowboy vs Razor Rob is a prelim is bullshit anyway. So really I'm glad he didnt make weight. A better chance to see some prelims now.

Sounds like more incentive not to make weight to me.

unless i am mistaken, i am pretty sure he loses a third of his purse as well. its also hard to say who would have the edge in a 5 round fight.... this whole thing has done a mess on the fight odds as well. from fightlinker-
This has caused havok with the betting lines, with Chael Sonnen going from +150 to -110 overnight on BetUS and other sportsbooks actually taking down the odds while their bookies re-calculate shit. I’m actually surprised the line hasn’t shifted more, considering the fact that this is Filho’s return from psychosis and his last performance against Sonnen was pretty weak specifically because he was so drained from his weight cut.

I thought you meant why should we care. Good point.

Also, the purse thing is decided depending on the commission. Gina has gotten portions of her purse taken due to not making weight, for example, but I don't think it is the same everywhere.

In Las Vegas I'm pretty sure they take 10%. 5% will go to the commission and 5% to Sonnen. They should double that for a title fight though.

i was trying to figure out where the hell i got the idea that it was 1/3rd of his purse, then i realized thats what leben lost from testing positive. whoops!

They should do the following:

Ivan Trembow Says:

The rule in boxing, and the way that it should be if the champion fails to make weight and the challenger does make weight, is that the challenger can still win the title with a victory, and the title simply becomes vacant if the champion wins.

The Filho fight was fucking... weird.

Uneventful I expected, but that third round... I don't even know.

Here we go, Luke Buttchinwalker baby.

god damn! if only that elbow had connected! :lol

even in defeat, impressive as fuck. he'll get it back, no fucking doubt

Fuck man. I think he's a massive douche, but I love watching Faber fight. And like you said it's things like that elbow (attempt :lol) that make it so, but damn. Damn.

this episode of TUF has gone from :lol to

but those pricks really deserved it

i was pissed, but at the end of the fight.... man, i felt bad for filho.... he seemed like a zombie out there. who knows where his head is at. really strange.

so happy for mike brown, i was cheering for him because he was basically fighting in his home town (of his school) and i thought he would be a great test for faber. faber is kind of a tool imo.... so i am happy to see a new champ.

man, this weeks TUF was amazing... those pranks, just so bad. but i dont feel bad for someone getting screwed over by eating someone elses food.

yeah, it wasnt close... BUT IF IT DID CONNECT! :lol

faber is a tool/douche, but he is crazy skilled. plus, hes from sac, so i like him.

No shame in the Faber lost. He tried to give the fans a show. Now should Faber get an immediate rematch or should we see Brown vs Garcia?

Filho though.. wasted, out of shape, one dimensional talent.

i think if you LIKE faber you are probably a prick :D but yea he was just trying to do something kind of wild and crazy and got caught by a guy who was fighting smarter. lucky for mike brown, too- i dont know when he hurt his rib, but i have pulled a rib before and its about as painful as anything. i was out for almost 2 months for mine, and once you do it you have to be careful because it can happen again pretty easily.

man, these gifs are almost scary

Don't know. When did he say that? He just said Phillipe reminded him of GSP this week.

And my god. Those pranks. I didn't want to believe that people would go that far.

He has to be.

Dana already said its not Junie, Efrain and Huggybear are wrestlers, and Roop is a girly bean pole.

This season's TUF is the most interesting since probably the first one. It's not the pissing in the food that makes it good, but the potential for good fights from the fighters. Junie could be good. Phillipe looks great. I want to see more of Ryan Bader and Krzysztof. Vinny fought a boring fight, but he has potential to become a solid fighter. If Kos can turn it around, anyone can.

i disagree only because we still arent seeing much of these fighters in the gym and in training. i still feel like i have very little clue who these guys are as fighters because so little is shown or discussed about their strengths, weaknesses, and gameplans. that has always been the most appealing part of this show to me. things such as bisping and hamil's rivalry, which this season seems to be lacking almost entirely.

it is nice to see nog as a coach and how close he is with his team though

Hopefully they put Vinny vs Eliot in the semi's.

I still think season 5 was pretty badass though......

Nate, Manny, Creepy Joe, Cole, Wiman, Gray, Corey, and Emmerson.

I hope this was because of politics or some behind the scenes shit. It doesn't make sense why they would do this for no reason.

heres a tad more info on it from cage potato.

Apparently Dana White & Co. were less than understanding of Werdum’s upset loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 90 and asked him to immediately re-negotiate his contract. The two sides couldn’t come to an agreement, prompting Werdum to leave the promotion; according to MMA Weekly, he’s already negotiating with other fight clubs in the U.S. and Japan.

For the record, Werdum’s base salary was $80,000 when he made his UFC debut in April 2007, dropping a decision to Andrei Arlovski. We’d assume that he made the same amount for his subsequent beatings of Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon Vera (at UFC 80 and 85), and his loss to Dos Santos last month, but salaries for those events were never publicly released. At any rate, his old employer decided he wasn’t worth 80 grand anymore and put the screws to him, which is just another example of the imbalance of power that plagues UFC fighter contracts. You sign a piece of paper that seemingly promises you a certain amount of money for a certain number of fights, but it’s by no means a guarantee unless you win every fight. And as the UFC becomes the only game in town, the power it wields is even greater. Anybody want to start a fighter’s union?
