http://mmajunkie.com/news/16095/for...o-mayorga-moving-to-mma-with-shine-fights.mmaColorful boxing veteran Ricardo Mayorga, who's fought everyone from Oscar De La Hoya to Shane Mosley to Félix Trinidad, is heading to the world of mixed martial arts.
The Ohio-based Shine Fights, which held its second-ever event on Friday in Florida, made the announcement during its online pay-per-view broadcast of the show.
No debut date or opponent have been determined for Mayorga, a former WBA/WBC welterweight and WBC junior middleweight champion who owns a 29-7-1 career record.

Anderson Silva's next middleweight title defense will have to wait until next year.
The UFC's longtime title-holder and one of MMA's top pound-for-pound fighters will soon undergo elbow surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2009 fight season.
That fight is long overdue. Hopefully for 5 rounds too.bone_and_sinew said:Hendo vs Marquardt please, make an interim if needed.
Sinatar said:Way to go Rampage. Not only do they have an entire season of TV being used to build this fight but they are making their debut in Memphis, his home town, solely at his request.
What a cunt.

Stop killing my dreams... and provide a link, I thought that was just some forum post.Eric WK said:By all accounts, five round non-title fights are not happening. Dana doesn't want to do them.

Dana White said:"You know how many times I've been ringside and said, 'God, I wish this was a five-round fight,'" White said after UFC 102. "I did it [on Sunday]. (UFC heavuweight champion) Brock (Lesnar) and I were watching the fight together, and we both said we wish that fight with Nogueira and Couture was five rounds.
"But, I think that's what's so special about fighting for the title. You fight for the title, and it's a five-round fight; you don't, it's a three-round fight. So if everything could be five rounds, what's the point in having title fights at five rounds? Should we do title fights as seven rounds and regular fights (at) five rounds? It just doesn't make sense to me, even though as a fan myself I'd like to see some fights go five rounds that aren't."
how would you feel about mirko getting a shot if he beats dos santos? to me that is nearly the same situation as shogun except he has been more active- 3 fights in 2008 compared to shoguns zero. hey, maybe shogun will shock everybody and look great against machida, but a victory of over mark coleman and chuck lidell SHOULD NOT be any reason to propel someone towards a title shot. he should at least win a decent 'contender' type bout... but maybe thats what the chuck fight was supposed to be...yacobod said:except for the fact that shogun has a great resume dating back to his tenure at pride, and was once considered the number 1 guy in his division prior to his injuries
sefskillz said:Dont think it's been mentioned here yet, but BJ Penn / Diego Sanchez looks to be the replacement for Rampage/Evans at 107 in Memphis.
Asbel said:Thanks. I kinda understand his thought about the title, makes it less special, but when I hear about a main event that's only 3 rounds, that ppv is less special than if it had a 5 round main event. So you might take some of the shine off title fights, maybe, but you could increase the excitement of all your weaker non-title fight ppvs.
Yeah, they should have 5 round main events in the uk where they can do whatever they want and those shows always needed more appeal anywaySinatar said:Well keep in the mind the only athletic commission that has approved the 5 round non title fights is the Nevada SAC. I can't remember the last time the UFC put on a show in Vegas that didn't have a belt on the line, they save the super shows for Vegas.

regardless, i cant really complain all that much. there really is nobody else for machida to fight right now that makes any sort of sense- at least among guys that are not already booked for something else. oh well, we will see what the future holds.

Cool, thanks.Eric WK said:A week from Thursday.
I don't get why people keep saying this. Who the hell is going to become an overnight UFC fan because they saw Rampage's mediocre acting in a film that could very likely blow ass? How many people do you think are even going to know who Rampage is?charsace said:I doubt Dana's pissed about Rampage being in a movie. The movie would help ppv buys whenever rampage fights.

Will SpikeTV show the episodes online? I have a SpikeTV plug-in for PlayOn, and I really hope the episodes are online for people without cable.abstract alien said:When does the new season of TUF start?
Koscheck has so much potential. It is great to hear that he is going back to his roots, wrestling. Even though I hate Koscheck as a fan (can't wait to boo him in Dallas at UFC 103), I want to see him bounce back to the top.Asbel said:http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=9520&zoneid=13
Koscheck back to wrestling training. Good to hear. His new found striking with his wrestling is something to fear. Alone, they made him one dimensional.

Nice TUF 10 preview, looks like it might be the first 8 minutes from the first episode. There's some big ass guys in the mix.
NinjaVideo has been putting up lots of combat sports stuff lately, including that boxing show that's similar to TUF, so I'd be surprised if they don't stream it this season.Bishman said:^
Meh. That sucks. I'll just wait for torrents then.

Still conflicted if I should just order tickets and hope for a good main event, or just not bother going at all, don't really fancy the idea of seeing Bisping as the main event.

the stun gun is fighting on that card, so if you are moving to korea i guess this is a chance for you to see their biggest draw!Ikuu said:I think they sell out, tickets are from £40-250, I'd have to travel down and stay the night which is going to add another £100 onto the cost of going. I'm still tempted to go regardless as I have no idea when I'd be able to attend another event in the near future (looking to move to Korea within a year).
Yeah, that's the one. I don't know if it's still airing or not, but I remember seeing the episodes on there.Musashi Wins! said:What's the boxing show? Is Contender or whatever it was called still on?!?
