Rampage can't act. The movie could be a total bomb. If he's not fighting, kick his ass out of the lhw title picture. He's just scared of Machida.

Rampage got clearance with Dana and the UFC to do the movie. They will push the fight by a month.

Rampage playing B.A. = more exposure for him = more exposure for the UFC = more $$

Saw this, too bad not for the UFC.

Colorful boxing veteran Ricardo Mayorga, who's fought everyone from Oscar De La Hoya to Shane Mosley to Félix Trinidad, is heading to the world of mixed martial arts.

The Ohio-based Shine Fights, which held its second-ever event on Friday in Florida, made the announcement during its online pay-per-view broadcast of the show.

No debut date or opponent have been determined for Mayorga, a former WBA/WBC welterweight and WBC junior middleweight champion who owns a 29-7-1 career record.

Dont think it's been mentioned here yet, but BJ Penn / Diego Sanchez looks to be the replacement for Rampage/Evans at 107 in Memphis.

if this actually happens it is on the level of shogun beating chuck to get a title shot.

except for the fact that shogun has a great resume dating back to his tenure at pride, and was once considered the number 1 guy in his division prior to his injuries

and we can do el oh el look at how many title shots randy couture has gotten in his career with a 16-10 record, the ufc has never been about giving the most deserving guys title shots

Way to go Rampage. Not only do they have an entire season of TV being used to build this fight but they are making their debut in Memphis, his home town, solely at his request.

What a cunt.

Yea, I happen to like loopy Rampage, but the timing is awful.

Both Hendo and Marquardt seem pissed about having to fight one another, but I think it has to happen.

By all accounts, five round non-title fights are not happening. Dana doesn't want to do them.
Stop killing my dreams... and provide a link, I thought that was just some forum post.

UFC 102 post-fight press conference. He said it quite definitively. He feels that if they make non-title fights five rounds that it lessens the significance of five-round title fights.

EDIT: http://mmajunkie.com/news/16031/eve...o-interest-in-five-round-non-title-fights.mma

Dana White said:
"You know how many times I've been ringside and said, 'God, I wish this was a five-round fight,'" White said after UFC 102. "I did it [on Sunday]. (UFC heavuweight champion) Brock (Lesnar) and I were watching the fight together, and we both said we wish that fight with Nogueira and Couture was five rounds.

"But, I think that's what's so special about fighting for the title. You fight for the title, and it's a five-round fight; you don't, it's a three-round fight. So if everything could be five rounds, what's the point in having title fights at five rounds? Should we do title fights as seven rounds and regular fights (at) five rounds? It just doesn't make sense to me, even though as a fan myself I'd like to see some fights go five rounds that aren't."

Thanks. I kinda understand his thought about the title, makes it less special, but when I hear about a main event that's only 3 rounds, that ppv is less special than if it had a 5 round main event. So you might take some of the shine off title fights, maybe, but you could increase the excitement of all your weaker non-title fight ppvs.

how would you feel about mirko getting a shot if he beats dos santos? to me that is nearly the same situation as shogun except he has been more active- 3 fights in 2008 compared to shoguns zero. hey, maybe shogun will shock everybody and look great against machida, but a victory of over mark coleman and chuck lidell SHOULD NOT be any reason to propel someone towards a title shot. he should at least win a decent 'contender' type bout... but maybe thats what the chuck fight was supposed to be...

regardless, i cant really complain all that much. there really is nobody else for machida to fight right now that makes any sort of sense- at least among guys that are not already booked for something else. oh well, we will see what the future holds.

Well keep in the mind the only athletic commission that has approved the 5 round non title fights is the Nevada SAC. I can't remember the last time the UFC put on a show in Vegas that didn't have a belt on the line, they save the super shows for Vegas.

Yeah, they should have 5 round main events in the uk where they can do whatever they want and those shows always needed more appeal anyway

I agree with where you're coming from, but UFC is a business. And having their LHW champ sit out because there is no concise number one contender yet is bad business practice. I think you could debate a lot of title shots to be honest, the entire heavyweight division during Tim Sylvia's era of shit was a complete mess. But if the champion is fit and ready to fight, the UFC has to find somebody to fight them.

I don't like Dana's argument at all, I think it's bullshit. The fact that it's a title fight and they're fighting for the belt already makes it special enough. If non-title fights were five rounds, they would be more exciting and would draw more viewers. How epic was that Couture/Big Nog fight? Imagine two more rounds of that!

I doubt Dana's pissed about Rampage being in a movie. The movie would help ppv buys whenever rampage fights.
I don't get why people keep saying this. Who the hell is going to become an overnight UFC fan because they saw Rampage's mediocre acting in a film that could very likely blow ass? How many people do you think are even going to know who Rampage is?

And has this story even been confirmed by a credible source yet? Last I heard everyone was referencing mmabay, and they don't count for shit.

This is the first TUF season I've been looking forward to in some time. Not to mention that there's at least a possibility of an injection of talent to the heavyweight division.

I watched two MMA related movies this weekend. I wanted to mention them briefly. In one dimension they seem totally different, from another quite the same. They were both martial arts fantasy films, which have a long semi-proud history among tough guys and nerds alike.

The first was Never Back Down, which I cringed at just seeing the cover, it was absolutely predictable and a teen summer fantasy sort of film. As a matter of fact, it's sort of the Karate Kid of the MMA generation. It follows much the same formula, with some of the innocence and emotion drowned out for todays kids, since they are "nu and xtreme". But for all the schlock and illusion, I thought it was tightly made. I could see myself at 16 and at weaker moments wanting to train to fight after watching it just like everyone wanted to do Karate back in the day after other films. It was far from the worst teen film I've seen (though I see few by choice now that I'm older), and it really did stress a fantastical version of mma which shows some sort of cultural shift. Of course maybe this was a straight to dvd film when it was released, I have no idea.

The 2nd was The Red Belt. This was the arthouse/indie mma fantasy, full of corruption and heroics (the last 20 minutes being as big a fantasy as anything in NBD). It's by David Mamet and if you are familiar with his work you will recognize it immediately as it has a distinctive manner of dialogue that I think is meant to highlight how hard it is for humans to truly communicate but at times makes me incredibly frustrated. Fortunately, he lets that go most the time and explores the idea of an honorable warrior in the modern world that's also full of wish fulfillment but you might find interesting if you're a little older and (like me) think of BJJ as a beautiful art as well as an effective fighting style.

When does the new season of TUF start?
Will SpikeTV show the episodes online? I have a SpikeTV plug-in for PlayOn, and I really hope the episodes are online for people without cable.

Meh. That sucks. I'll just wait for torrents then.

Koscheck back to wrestling training. Good to hear. His new found striking with his wrestling is something to fear. Alone, they made him one dimensional.
Koscheck has so much potential. It is great to hear that he is going back to his roots, wrestling. Even though I hate Koscheck as a fan (can't wait to boo him in Dallas at UFC 103), I want to see him bounce back to the top.

Did Paulo Thiago piss in Joe Silva's coffee or something?

Dude makes his UFC debut against Josh Koshcheck, which is a crazy first fight. Pulls off the upset and wins.

Second fight they throw him into the meat grinder against Jon Fitch who of course wins.

Now his third fight is announced... Thiago Alves.

God damn dude is getting rid hard and put away wet.

NinjaVideo has been putting up lots of combat sports stuff lately, including that boxing show that's similar to TUF, so I'd be surprised if they don't stream it this season.

I think they sell out, tickets are from £40-250, I'd have to travel down and stay the night which is going to add another £100 onto the cost of going. I'm still tempted to go regardless as I have no idea when I'd be able to attend another event in the near future (looking to move to Korea within a year).

I can't imagine Bisping headlining a UFC at this point, even if he is British. That would be sad.

The more I read reaction to Jackson following the movie rather than the fight schedule, the more pissed I get.

the stun gun is fighting on that card, so if you are moving to korea i guess this is a chance for you to see their biggest draw!
