Good win by Marcus, Kimura, rear naked choke, and arm bar all within a very short period of time. Dude knows his Jiu Jitsu, is he a blackbelt?

Also, Cain over Nog by destruction.

I might have misunderstood, but I think he said he was a blue belt when he was talking to Rampage. He seemed to have great body control when he was on the ground though, especially for somebody who started training at such a late age (I had no idea he was 36). Then again, I have no idea how good his opponent is on the ground. I've assumed he was going to get at least one win because he's been doing the TUF recaps on ESPN.com's MMA Live, and then the episode was clearly leading up to a Team Rampage win, but I didn't see a dominant ground performance coming.

STFU you spoilin fucks :lol

Cain Vs Mir would have been better because it wouldn't have killed a potential Brock Vs Nog match up. Stupid.
Nah Nog needs one more win to get a title shot IMO. And Cain is the man to give it to him.

Cain also needs one more win to get a title shot. Should be a great fight. I'm looking forward to it a lot more than I am Carwin vs Lesnar (Or the fight between the winner of those two fights, for what it's worth).

Big Baby redeeming the season! best show of the season with ease.

who the fuck knew that Marcus had that kind of game? 3 sub attempts in like 30 seconds? :lol holy shit.

This weekend is the Fedor on CBS thing, the weekend after is Couture vs. Vera for free on Spike.

so theyre just giving us next weekend for free, no strings? i wont complain, looking forward to it. unusual though.

so is Affliction dead? whats this Strikeforce thing again? is this the same Showtime sponsored thing that keeps changing names thats been on CBS before? (the one Kimbo debuted on?) im confused. anyone feel like breaking it down for me.

really looking forward to it though. never seen a live Fedor fight before.

Affliction is dead as a promotion. As is the promotion that CBS previously aired, Elite XC. I don't think I'm stepping on any toes to say that Strikeforce is the second biggest American promotion in MMA right now.

They have a few very talented fighters, though on whole they don't approach the UFC in their talent level. The heavyweight division is probably their strongest (Fedor, obviously, their champion kind of Alistair Overeem who hasn't fought for Strikeforce in ages, Rogers, Andrei Arlovski, Werdum, and Silva), with a handful of up and coming light heavyweight fighters (Moussasi, their champion, appears to be legit. They've also signed Bobby Lashley and Mo Lawal in the last month or so who have at least shown some promise, and Babalu Sobral is a good formerly high level fighter that they have, who is now worth...a name. Same can be said for Sokoudjou).

They've been around for a few years and, before signing Fedor, made a pretty big splash a few months ago by having the first US MMA card headlined by women fighters, Gina Carrano vs Cyborg Santos. Recently, they were rumored (By Dana White, in one of his many attempts to be a dick) to be in talks with Dan Henderson.

I'm sure I've missed something, I don't know anything of their history before this year really. I remember seeing on Wikipedia a while back that they previously had some fighters that ended up as successful UFC fighters. Can't think of any off the top of my head.

Yeah but i want to see both match ups so much!

Brock Vs Nog: Dunno if Brock would smother Nog, his JJ seems good against big guys so they might stand up. KO/TKO

Brock Vs Cain: Wrestlers, both seem used to dominating their opponents so would be another potentially good stand up fight. KO/TKO

Just seems to me that these guys should go through the guys that have already lost to Brock. Nogs done that with Randy, but he did loose to Mir because* he wasn't 100%.

Cains gone through some bad ass dudes with Kongo and the like and his last fight was domination (i agree with that stoppage) pure and simple but i would like to see if he could do that against some dudes with a ground game......... and because it would be an awesome match up.

But yeah might be getting ahead of ourselves, Brocks still got to retain his title. I like him but i would love to see him get KTFO.

*Maybe.

Picks for 105, probably gonna change a few soon.

huh, ok thanks. i had top wikipedia it to tie up a few lose ends in my mind. i know Strikeforce has been around for a while now, but i was confused by the CBS and Fedor thing.

so Affliction and EliteXC are done. Strikforece just pikcs up the pieces and gets the CBS deal, Fedor, fighters from Elite, and Sokodjou. :lol edit: and partnered with M-1.

i think i got it. go Strikeforce! more free MMA the better.

while i was impressed with the speed marcus issued em out, i think he needs to set them up better and wait for good opportunities. the kimora and choke were weak. if he didnt get that arm he would have lost a major position for a failed attempt.

He seems to have the power to force any position he wants though, sure against some pros he might have a tough time but in that house i cant see anyone really messing with his ground game....... unless Roy lays his gut on his head and suffocates him.

Roy's good as well though, i think Dana's a bit intimidated by him, hes a smart and clinical fighter and i don't think Dana wants to see a guy like that picking guys apart with what looks like relative ease.

Why is everyone sleeping on Cain??

well because he has average to poor stand-up, has an average chin, and doesnt have much gnp, he's got good take downs and top control, he's a classic LNP fighter, but he has potential to evolve, i just dont think hes all that right now

There are some reports of Ben Rothwell vs Cro Cop at 110. LOL and double LOL.

Strikeforce card is fucking awesome...

Fedor vs Rogers

Jake Shields vs Mayhem Miller

Mousasi vs Soukadjou

That's as good as anything the UFC has done in some time.

It was nice to see Marcus look competent last night, first time that's happened in TUF this year.

UFC 108: Underwhelming

No Anderson Silva, No Brock Lesnar... who is going to step up to save this New Years card? Machida Shogun 2. Make it happen.

Also, bad luck for Joe Silva, as 4 of the 5 UFC champions are sick or recovering from injury. Good luck with that.

If Henderson goes, I don't see that as a big catch for Strikeforce. Odds are they'll be overpaying for his drawing power.

Want to know what a big signing is? This is it:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/mma/11/05/st.pierre.under.armour/index.html#ixzz0W06HTehC

On Thursday, the French-Canadian welterweight champion inked a deal with Under Armour, becoming the first mixed martial artist to sign a major endorsement deal with a mainstream sports apparel company. The multi-year agreement makes St. Pierre the face -- and body -- of Under Armour's underwear line, a relationship that kicks off with an extensive media campaign this holiday season.

crocop's a legend in this sport, he deserves a place on the main card as long as hes still fighting, at the houston ppv vs JDS, he still got the biggest pop out of all the fighters on the main card, much bigger than Ace or Vitor

Any place that streams CBS? I'm at college and the antenna I've got doesn't pick up CBS

I figure this should be ok since it's not PPV? Otherwise, nevermind

Asbel said:

I agree 100%. If he's going to lose, at least let it be entertaining or against high level competition. I hate seeing mediocre performances from him against tomato can opponents.

Honestly though, can he still compete against people like Couture, much less Nog who seems to be back on a very prominent level.

I will always love Cro Cop, he's a legend, but I don't want to see him going out being destroyed again and again.

I would guess the usual sources will stream this event just like ppv's, it's a better card than most of those and Europe and other places will be interested.

i wish he would just stop..every time i see him fight now is gut wrenching...2006 owgp crocop was the next logical evolution of the terminator...now..he just looks like he does'nt want to be in there the second he struggles a little...the fire is gone..he should retire.

Herman-York was one of the more effed up knockouts I've ever seen. From the start of the fight, with the entrance music of "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" by the Culture Club all the way to the end. It was all just craziness.

did my first tourney as a purple belt on saturday, came away with a win! it kind of sucks- in white belt i would have maybe 12 guys in my weight class, blue belt might have 4-5 guys. purple belt- just one other guy. oh well. video here.

Good job there. You almost got the choke right before pulling out that arm bar. The opponent had to block the choke with both arms !
Oh and, to anyone that doesn't do ground fighting, that fight will probably look boring. To me it was entertaining.
Keep it up :)

Yeah, life gets in the way of keeping in shape for tournaments. It's worth keeping up though, [edit: humor thread made me realize joke was in bad taste]

Good job on the W

haha, wow, the guy told me after the match that he fights mma and said he was 4-2 as a pro. i kind of brushed the whole thing off because i figured it was just some made up stuff since mma is still so wide open, especially down here in the south, but he actually has a real record on sherdog. kind of surprising- but he has not faced anybody real and its just small shows in texas. i still dont think i have any intentions of fighting in mma- i get paid to much at my 9-5 job to get punched in the face!

The guy who gave him his second loss seems like a pretty legit fighter. 14-5 and 1-1 in the EliteXC.

Nice work dude. Also props on the purple.

I have to imagine that the whole point of this fight in a way is to set up Vera as a contender at LHW. Or to send him packing. Couture is the favorite right now.

I like Vera over Couture. He has to win to remain relevant and looks good lately. Probably by decision.

Swick over Hardy, KO round 1.

Denis Kang is the slight fave over Bisping. This is a must win for Bisping, and I think the UFC would like him to win so they can keep rolling him out for UK shows. I think Kang is the better fighter and comes from a better camp. Unless the fix is in, Kang by submission, round 3.
