is anyone looking forward to this weekends ppv?

card doesnt look that great on paper, but the shows where i have low expectations often times end up being the most entertaining, might have to go to a bar for this one instead of ordering

I think all the fights look good. They just don't feature a lot of big names.

I am for the simple fact that Sam Stout is from my hometown and used to play football with my brother when they were kids... I may even get out there to attend it if Sam ends up hooking up tickets for my bro and I.

I also think the fights have the potential to be pretty good for the most part even though tere aren't many big names.

I think a lot of people writing Sam off a little too easily in this fight. MMA fans just don't seem to comprehend how hard it is to come back from reconstructive knee surgery. Creepy Joe is going to have a shitload ring rust to work off.

Agreed. I see Sam being able to win it myself.

EraldoColi?! You're BodomShredder!!! I knew I recognized your GAF name after seeing you on Modern Warfare 2, but I couldn't remember what threads I peruse on here where I've seen it.

Huh...

Edit: Also, that Fedor story is awesome. "I don't make faces." That's great stuff:lol

hey, sorry for the late response! yeah that's me, i tried to change my name on XBL but it was already taken, feel free to add me if you ever wanna play!

Watching the Dream 09 Best of the Welterweight. Exciting stuff. I can't believe how Aoki and Sakurai got knocked out. The European in the Akuma outfit is LOL.

I have to say, Dream is definitely a little more violent than UFC, as they can knee on the ground plus the weird position remixes to move the fighters from a corner to the center.

I DVR'd the Dynamite but will probably watch it tomorrow.

Also peeped the Bazzies.

So does this mean it is a best of Pride with UFC fighters only. Dana White is a bitch!!

They should just call it "Best of UFC fighters fighting each other in a Japanese Promotion called Pride"

Spike TV will premiere the "Best of Pride" series on Friday, January 15th, with new one-hour episodes every Friday.

UFC president Dana White explained the format of the program:
"It'll kind of be like 'UFC Unleashed,'" said White, referring to Spike TV's UFC-themed highlights show. "All the great PRIDE fights that happened with all the stars who are UFC guys now will be on it."

I didn't really expect otherwise. It will be a total waste of time.

I hope this finally motivates Gomi to greatness again. In Pride he was always good when he had a reason to fight (his belt was on the line mainly) but was always lackluster when it was just exhibition matches. With the UFC lightweight Sharktank perhaps he'll get that fire again.

He'll have to for his title unification match!

Wow

Gomi to the UFC?

A little late... and as much as i would like to see him do well.. i think the game has passed him by.

But I certainly aint complaining.

Dynamite is EPIC, minus 2 snoozer fights.

Depends who wins between Nate and Gray Maynard. I think Gomi should face the winner of that fight.

If Gray wins I think he's more then earned his title shot, why take a massive step backwards by fighting Gomi?

Why? Because the UFC obviously signed Gomi to go up against BJ and they probably want to get him the shot as quickly as possible. If Gomi loses then so be it. It seems like the most logical thing to do with such a high profile (and probably high cost) signing.

It wouldn't be fair to Maynard, but I have a feeling that it will happen.

EDIT: I guess they could also put him on the Sanchez > Florian route too...

i'm War Gomi, but in all honesty Gomi isn't what he used to be. There are some interesting match ups for him but there is no way he's gonna make a splash in the LW division.

i would love to be proven wrong though.

It is late and I am not sure if Dream is bothered that he with UFC. The guy is on the way down..

He was a great fighter though.

It's a fine pick up for a division with a hundred good matches. Pour the gravy on.

The word is Gomi vs Florian for the first fight. I'll be honest, that's not really the warm up I want.

He set the record for most takedowns and least ground strikes, lol.

I can't go along with the feeling in the other thread that he just got a lnp victory, I'm a Thiago (or was) fan, but he got schooled except for the one exchange he couldn't find until the end when he was too winded to do anything about it.

All that said, he's a good two leg takedown guy, why not add the ability to do something down there?

That would be feeding Gomi to the fucking wolves....

If Dana and Joe Silva are smart, they'll put him against Sam Stout. Given Gomi's recent output I think this would be a good test to see if he belongs in the UFC or to see if Stout is a real contender.

At this point I think Stout has earned a match against someone with a higher profile like Gomi.

Yes, Gomi needs a striker to shine. Fisher would do to. Will be exciting no matter the outcome. Then give him a grappler with weak takedowns next.

He should stay away from Kenny. Kenny fights too smart to stand and bang with Gomi.

Is Roger Huerta still fighting?

Gomi vs Huerta would be fun

His fight against Maynard was the last on his contract and he never negotiated a new one. I think he's waiting for the non compete period of the contract to expire before signing with Strikeforce.

I want to see Gomi vs. The Other Diaz. If he wins that, Gomi vs. Ken Flo. If he shines, Gomi vs. BJ 2.

The last thing I want to see is Guida shake his hair around for 15 mins while laying on top of him.

Whew, finally finished watching Dynamite. Great event overall, outside of all the questionable stoppages and Guy Mezger's as always terrible commentary. All the talk about bad decisions was really stupid considering they were mistaken about the 10 point must system being in effect for the MMA fights, and I thought they called the Masato vs Souwer scoring pretty poorly as well and agreed with the official scoring. Shut up about the scoring and just focus on the action, guys.

Highlights:

-Masato vs Souwer. Beautiful technical striking display by both guys. They put it all out there. Extreme pace and very close throughout the five rounds.

-Tokoro vs Kim. Tokoro remains the P4P most exciting fighter in MMA, with awesome intensity/conditioning and creative grappling. Kim deserves major props for a 3 day notice fight and the tremendous heart to stay in this one for 15 despite everything that happened. War Tokoro.

-Aoki vs Hirota. For a chronic crybaby Aoki was a vicious motherfucker here, but delivered a hell of a finish. Now let's see if you can finish Kawajiri just as spectacularly.

-Mousasi vs Goodridge. Huh, thought this one was going to be K-1 rules but I guess not. Once again Mousasi, despite having an advantage wherever the fight is, locks on to his opponent's weakest area and goes straight for the kill. Did you see his hand speed in the ground and pound? Holy shit.

-The K-1 Koshien tournament. This really surprised me, as I thought it was just going to end up the Hiroya show, with the most carefully groomed fighter in combat sports built up further. But no one told Noiri, with his two K-1 fights to Hiroya's 17, and Noiri came out with a great display of skill in both his tournament matches. That's one badass high school kid.

-Ishii vs Yoshida. Everyone seemed to be all on about how Ishii was a new breed judoka, younger and stronger and more explosive, but what about Yoshida? It turns out that the old man's judo wasn't old enough to allow a single throw from Ishii, and Yoshida's a veteran of many wars, always impressing me with his toughness and willingness to exchange punches. Remember the Wandy fights? Yoshida looked kinda fat here, but I can't really blame him for losing steam in the later rounds after having his balls crunched. Good win for Yoshida, and :lol for Ishii calling out Fedor beforehand. This is MMA dude.

-Sakurai vs Gono. I dunno man, Sakurai looked tired before he got into the ring, and barely got himself up there to fight. Don't know what's going on with him but he should retire if he's not going to take things seriously. Great armbar from Gono though, totally legit.

And I don't care if the stoppage was terrible, I jumped out of my seat when MINOWAMAN dropped Soko. What the hell? Haha. Almost kneebarred him earlier too. Fedor ducking Minowaman confirmed.

Aoki is a piece of shit. What he did was way worse than anything Brock has done so far.
