Versus is back on DirecTV
DIRECTV and Comcast have reached an agreement to return VERSUS to the DIRECTV programming lineup today. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

VERSUS will return to the same DIRECTV programming packages it was in at the end of August 2009.

"We are pleased that both sides were able to work out a satisfactory deal to bring this programming back to our customers," said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development, DIRECTV.

"We're excited that we were able to come to a fair agreement that puts VERSUS back in millions of homes with DIRECTV in time for our busy spring programming schedule," said Jamie Davis, president of VERSUS. "We look forward to super-serving these fans with NHL regular-season and playoff coverage, our first live UFC event and much more."

Oh my God yes! Fucking perfect! As a guy who JUST switched to DTV last fucking week, I was dreading missing Sunday's show. Fuck yes. ;_;

Now I just need some AMC HD for Breaking Bad and Mad Men and me and this newfangled satellite nonsense are square.

Hureta signing with Bellator is some fucking awesome news!

can't wait for their MW, WW, LW, FW tournaments this year, they are going to be fucking amazing!

You would almost think that Zuffa only agreed to put UFC events on Versus if they agreed to get back on DirecTV or something.

Ha, yes this is what I believe. But good on them, I'm glad we'll all see the event and it's more likely to continue.

Every gawdamned woman I've talked to (living in Canada, of course) who has started watching MMA in the past 2 years has done so for one reason: GSP. When I find a woman who watches MMA, I don't even have to ask her who her favourite fighter is. It's a given.

Of course, I'm not complaining. It's a well-known fact that if I were to go gay, it would be for GSP.

edit: also, love how the book he was reading was authored by Sexyama :lol

Seriously. Well-built man who fights in tight underpants and kicks serious ass? And, who does it in both official languages?

Someone get me a bucket of cold water.

Hmm, should I have contemplated an alternate career path?

Sooo, GSP trains hard with KenFlo and Marquardt; Hardy eschews strategy for cheap tactics, trains with a guido who got a lucky punch off and does katas with monks in rural China.

I wonder who's going to win.

Yeah I thing Comcast was just holding out until the last minute to get everything they possibly could out of DirecTV for their Versus channel. Honestly though I feel that cable companies should not be allowed to own major sports channels such as Versus, too much conflict of interest there. Of course nowadays American anti-trust laws don't do shit, just ask Clear Channel.

"Babalu" Sobral signed with Dream, he's going to compete in the Light Heavyweight Tourney in May.

I like tournaments, I wish more top talent participated in them still.

Mousasi and Soukodjou will be there too.

:lol Mousasi has already beaten both Soukodjou & Babalu already, kind of a pointless tournament. I mean what other free agent LHW's are there that could even pose a challenge to Mousasi?

Probably none, I'm looking forward to the King Mo fight far more, but you never know in a tournament. Again, this is why I wish there was a larger pool of fighters participating in such things though there's no incentive for the ones that matter to do so.

I guess theres always the chance of discovering some new talent like they did with Zaromskis.

Shame, Sliva wants to fight the best there is in any division, Fedor doesnt seem to give a shit.

Fedor's last three opponents were top 10 ranked fighters. Anderson's last three opponents were Forrest Griffin, Thales Leites and Patrick Cote.

Really looking forward to the Fight Night this weekend. It's a shame its on Sunday as opposed to Saturday but oh well. Something is better than nothing.

Forrest Griffin was a top ten fighter in a weight class higher than the one where Silva holds the belt, Leites was also considered a top ten fighter in middleweight when they fought.

I have no issue with Fedor's last three opponents. But the three before that were Hong-Man Choi, Matt Lindland, and Mark Hunt. :P

I want to see him continue the trend of the last three fights. Yoshida is a step backwards.

anderson silva and ed soares hand pick their opponents, they didnt want anything to do with chael sonnen, so we got the match with demian maia, who was last seen on queer street by marquardt

pretty impressive wins against james irvin, patrick cote, thales leites, and forrest griffin, i think you could make that case that only 1 out of his last 4 opponents were top 10 ranked fighters at the time of the fight, that being said anderson silva is a bad ass, but is wasting his time in the ridiculously weak UFC middleweight division, there is no competition there, no quality opponents, he should just sack up and move up to 205 and then see how he stacks up with shogun, lil nog, machida, rashad, rampage, etc, far more interesting fights for him at 205, more dangerous fights as well

i think anderson & soares are just as concerned as his unblemished record as fedor and M1 are, otherwise he would have moved up to 205 already and vacated the worst division in the ufc

if i had to rank the UFC divisions in terms of competition it would be

155 >= 170, 205 >= HW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MW

mark hunt was a top 10 guy when he fought fedor, he was still good in pride at the time

I knew I could count on this:

Bullfucking shit he was. Ya, maybe MMAweekly, in one of their "let's be completely fucking retarded" moments decided to put him at #10 at the time.

But he was 4-2. Decisive wins over Dan Bobish, a fighter so fat that it looked like he was going to have a heart attack walking to the ring, and a Middleweight Japanese boxer making his MMA debut. Losses to Josh Barnett and Yoshida.

His other two wins both being controversial split decisions over Crocop and Wanderlei.

So really, fighting heavyweights he was 2-2 at the time.

Top 10 my fucking ass.

ya but at the time who else would have been in the top 10 in 2005/2006?

arlovski, sylvia, crocop, nog, barnett, fedor, werdum, aleks e., sergei kharitonov is stretching it

i mean the division has always been pretty thin, who else would you put in the top 10 at the time, he would almost be in the top 10 by default, i think your rage is more likely due to hindsight

People easily more deserving of top 10 rankings in late 2006:

Fedor
Barnett
Nog
Sylvia
Arlovski
Werdum
Alex Emelianenko
Kharitonov
Crocop (he had just won the OWGP, remember)
Brandon Vera
maaaaaybe Overeem.

edit: hell, you could even throw Jeff Monson in there for late 2006, I'd definitely rank him over Hunt at the time. He was 22-6 at the end of 2006, and had just lost to Sylvia after a 16 fight win streak.

That's 11 or 12. Mark Hunt: not top 10 in 2006, never has been top 10, never will be top 10. My rage is not due to hindsight, it's due to people constantly repeating the assertion that Hunt was top 10 at the time when the idea is patently fucking ridiculous.

Nothing more entertaining than arguing about rankings of MMA's shittiest division.

i have to disagree, that would be the middleweight division, outside of the dominant champion, that division is riddled with mediocrity

you have to agree that HW division, in the ufc particularly looks to be on the up and up, you have Brock Lesnar, Mir, Carwin, JDS, Cain, Gonzaga, Big Nog, Todd Duffee, Big Country Fried Steak, Kongo, and Crocop, thats certainly more talent then at 185

and worldwide you still have Fedor, Overeem, Arlovski, Brett Rodgers, Werdum, Giant Silva, and Pudzianowski lol

i mean i think top 1-20 the HW division worldwide is more interesting than 185, i'd like to see an argument otherwise

Todd Duffee does not belong anywhere near that list of names. Pudzianowski isn't even a HW, he is a SHW.

I would take Hendo, Jacare, Marquart, Maia, Lawler, Manoef, Silva, King Mo, Mayhem, Wand, and Biping over that list, more variety and they are better in their respective disciplines. Next to Banta and Flyweight the HW division is the worst in MMA.

todd duffee is like 23-24 years old, the guy is a good young prospect, i'm excited to see him fight in the ufc again

and king mo's never fought at 185 and probably never will, all his fights have either been at LHW or HW
