I mean...there's almost 0 chance this fight will be anything but incredible (from a stylistic perspective). Unless something really weird happens, it's the kind of fight that will turn both guys into stars. I think people will tune in for the promise of a world heavyweight championship fight and click away as fans of both fighters and the sport in general.
 
It would be pretty short-sighted for UFC to promote has-beens on primetime television. You guys have to think bigger. It's time to create new stars.

For a fight fan, this is the biggest heavyweight fight in years. Now it's free.

No it wouldn't have. Tito and Rich are not draws anymore and that fight has zero consequences on the LHW division. That's not how you want to lead off the first UFC show on Fox.

Fucking hype to the max. Going to be a showdown of the two best HWs in the world, the matchup that I've wanted to see for a while now. Now I get to watch JDS/Cain and Pacquiao/Marquez in the same night.
 
WOW. I'm shocked and impressed they're giving the HW title showdown away for free.

The only thing is, I hope they don't push this 'beginner' MMA shit with some lame ass 20 minute paid program esque intro to the fight. If someone new is watching, they will want to see what the fight is all about, not some instructional video about it. You just have to let people come to the sport, not baby them about it.

I remember way back when the NHL was on FOX they tried all kinds of shit, like putting a yellow tail on the puck while it was in play. It was distracting as fuck. I hope they don't do something equally as stupid for MMA, like having the FOX robot pop up like VH1 saying 'thats an omniplata!' 'thats a rear naked choke!' in the videos they do. You just have to let people come to the sport with an exciting fight, no amount of stupid intro stuff matters!
 
PS - We're a good 150 posts away from the limit of this thread so who wants to make the new MMA thread? It's going to be filled up by the end of the day with this news.

You shut your Punishment Athletics Huntington Beach Bad Boy hating mouth! Tito and Rashad did 330k buys and the preliminary estimates for Anderson vs Okami are down 15% from that.

Hurricane sweeping the East coast and international cards never do that well. Anderson and BJ did 850k buys at 101. They did 500k for Abu Dhabi.

I don't think I'm hardcore enough to drive 7 hours each way. I guess I could fly. Might head to San Jose depending on the replacement fight. Shogun vs. Henderson or Overeem vs. Mir and I'm there.

That Cain vs JDS is surprising and fantastic. I thought they'd hold their top notch cards for ppvs but maybe not. This is a good move imo. Big win for the fan. The only problem could come from a flash knock out. A lot of dead air to fill if that happens.

He's not THE nest, that's JDS. Cain is #2. Sure that's not the greatest list of competition, but he's undefeated and there's not really any one else in the division that's on as hot of a roll as him. Is Werdum, Duffee and Rogers better than Cain's list?

I don't think anyone in the top 10 really has a clear cut resume so that you know exactly where they stand, but a year from now I think the rankings will be:

1. Josh Barnett
2. Antonio Silva
3. Matt Mitrione

Call me crazy. I don't see JDS beating any of them.

There aren't enough :lol emoticons in the world to express how I feel after seeing Mitrione on that list. And I genuinely like Mitrione.

Overeem isn't fighting, cain has cardio for days, he's going to steam roll jds, if he didn't have shoulder surgery immediately after the lesnar fight he'd be as hyped as jon jones, come to think of it, cain jones is more compelling than anderson jones.
 
How can anyone judge Cain's cardio? He's had one fight go the distance (Kongo) and was just chilling in back side control for most of it. Everything else was a fairly quick finish.

This, he also got rocked early in the fight...not a good sign. I can not wait for this fight and I have a feeling JDS takes it by TKO in the third.

Well greasy georges won't finish diaz, so only way he wins is via lnp, then we might get an insincere apology, and an explanation about how difficult it is to finish an opponent. Luckily the cards co main event will provide fireworks.

Actually, the whole card is pretty damn solid, minus the 25 min wrestlefest.
 
JDS is gonna take this. Cain had a long layoff and I think is just a bad match for him. This will go 1 round. Noway Cain is gonna stand and bang with JDS.

Maybe we can get Lil Nog/Tito/Franklin match involving 2 of those 3. I really wanted to see Nog/Tito and Nog/Franklin but too bad that didn't happen. Tito/Franklin would be fun too.
 
Nice. Clearly UFC is going hard at the Mexican audience. Expect Cain to have red white and green facepaint on in the commercials. Should be an amazing fight.

The UFC needs to steal the only people that care about Boxing (Outside of Pac and PBF nut huggers) now. Once they do Boxing is dead in the US.
