Cro Cop in the UFC!? Shiiit.

He'll go through EVERYONE in that organization with ease. This should be fun to watch. Kinda sucks now though, since I always wanted to see a CroCop Fedor rematch but oh well.

This isn't confirmed yet, but feel free to speculate away. Everyone was expecting him to make the big announcement at fight night on Wednesday but no official word. I'll be sad if i don't see a Fedor / Crocop rematch :(

Man I am out of the loop, I had no idea that David Loiseau was dropped from the UFC after his fight with Swick. I still don't understand why Dana White is so eager to drop everyone that loses, regardless of their talent. Every fight has to have a loser, it's the nature of the game.

In case you guys haven't seen it yet, good 'ol Tim Sylvia sold his PS3 on ebay.

Also, news on TUF 5: BJ Penn and Jens Pulver are your coaches.

Ultimate Fighter Season V, built around lightweights, begins taping in January with Former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver and former UFC Welterweight Champion B.J. Penn working as coaches. They're doing a twist this season where BJ and Jens will fight on the free TUF Finals TV show. It'll get a huge rating, but why throw away the buyrate? At this point the plan is for the season to debut Thursday, April 5 at 10:00 PM, following TNA.

What the hell is happening to Pride. They falling off... real hard.

Losing television will do that. Fighters jumping ship (or having reason to jump ship) doesn't help, either.

Am I the only one who knew UFC would be the #1 MMA promotion? Cro Cop in the UFC is a nail in the coffin to Pride.

I think it's too early to be talking about nails in coffins just yet. Also, I don't want to get my hopes up for Crocop until something is officially announced at this point.

It does seem too good to be true. I can't imagine how great the UFC would be. With Crocop, Silva, Liddell and GSP, the UFC wouldn't only have arguably the best fighters in their respective weight classes, but also exciting fighters with belts that actually have meaningful defences. If only we could do something about sherk.

Yeah. Well, similar to the Middleweight Championship situation almost two years ago, the UFC just had to get the belt on somebody in order to sort out the division. They had Tanner face Terrell, established Tanner as the champion, Franklin takes it and runs with it for a year and a half, and now we have Silva as a legit champ and the division's looking good.

Same thing will probably happen with the lightweight division. They just needed to establish a champ to get the ball rolling. Hopefully Penn will stay in the lightweight division, and we'll see if he really can be a champ.

I hope so, always liked Penn. If the welterweight devision wasn't so stacked he could've been champ.

When I first heard the Crocop rumours I thought, "excellent! the UFC desperately needs some top talent for their heavyweight division".

Then I realized it means top fights such as Crocop vs. Brad Imes. :(

Unless the UFC announces a whole whack of top heavyweight acquisitions over the next couple months I think this is pretty disappointing. Aside from getting to see Sylvia dropped to the canvas that is.

The UFC HW division is starting to get a bit more interesting.

Sylvia
Crocop
Vera
Arlovski
Herring

Sign up 1 or 2 more legit heavyweights and it looks pretty good.

Ohhh Serrrgeiii

I'd expect to see Mirko get one, maybe two fights tops before getting a title shot.

Look at Anderson Silva, he got his shot after only one UFC fight.

The UFC has Sylvia, Vera (assuming he signs a new contract), Herring, Arlovski. That's enough fodder for Mirko for more than a year, and I'm sure the UFC will be building the division in the meantime.

"Cro Cop" to Face Eddie Sanchez in UFC Debut... according to Sherdog.

Er, yes. I much prefer this to watching him fight Fedor :(

On one hand, beating an unknown like Eddie Sanchez isn't going to gather casual fan interest like beating the popular Leben. On the other hand, Tim has no one lined up to defend the belt against after Vera assuming he wins.

And having Arlovski called fodder hurts, but I'll wait til after his comeback fight to see if I agree.

That would be best, assuming Pride would/could put it on anytime soon.

Not like that would be an option. Fedor fights Hunt NYE, then Monson in March for BodogFIGHT.

So rather than have Mirko twiddle his thumbs waiting for Pride to give him a rematch, I'd much rather see him thrown into the mix of UFC fighters. Though I agree having him fight a complete unknown is lame.

Not like Pride did any different, however. Dos Caras Jr, anyone?

Thats assuming he even fights Vera, it's very much looking like Vera is not going to re-sign with the UFC.

I'm just hoping if Pride disintegrates and the UFC becomes ascendent it happens quick so most of the top talent is in one place the way it is/was with Pride.

I also hope the UFC finds a way to adopt Pride rules but that will never happen with the various state athletic commission.

That needed spoiler tags why?

Yeah, sounds like he's holding out for more money like Crocop. Maybe the UFC can hope Pe De Pano beats Arlovski. :/ I just want to see Vera fight top competition, title or no.

UFC in Montreal OFF!

http://www.globesports.com/servlet/s...ortsOther/home

LAS VEGAS — A UFC card planned for April in Montreal has been called off, according to UFC president Dana White.

White had told reporters earlier this month in San Diego that the mixed martial arts circuit would make its Canadian debut at the Bell Center on April 7 with Montreal native and newly crowned welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre taking on former title-holder Matt Hughes in a 170-pound rubber match.

On Thursday, White said the Montreal card was off.

"Fell apart, unfortunately," White said. "There were a lot of different things that made that fight fall apart.

"I'm trying to regroup right now and figure out when we go to Canada."

He said the UFC still hopes to get to Canada in 2007. But it also has it eyes set on England and Mexico, in addition to a full U.S. schedule.

Montreal remains the likeliest Canadian destination. St. Pierre would be a good draw there and mixed martial arts is not sanctioned in Ontario.

White, meanwhile, confirmed Hughes will fight in March in Ohio, although no opponent has been chosen as of yet.

The Ohio card, believed to be destined for Columbus, is expected to be UFC 67 and showcase former middleweight champion Rich Franklin. The Cincinnati native is looking to return to the ring after losing his 185-pound title to Brazil's Anderson Silva in October.

St. Pierre stripped Hughes of his championship belt in dominant fashion Nov. 18 in Sacramento, scoring a second-round technical knockout to avenge a submission loss to the American in October 2004.

The 25-year-old St. Pierre is set to make his first title defence in Las Vegas on Feb. 3 against Matt Serra, the winner of Season 4 of The Ultimate Fighter reality TV show.

I blame it on Matt Hughes :)

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

**** YOU MATT HUGHES.

I CAN'T WAT FOR GSP TO SMASH YOUR FACE IN AGAIN

I gotta say.. these UFC countdown shows really get me. I wasnt that excited about Liddell/Ortiz 2... now i cant wait :lol

The more and more I watch previews the more convinced I become that Tito has a great chance of winning. I think its a 50-50 fight, which makes the odds for Tito fantastic.

And I demand that Tito wear goggles during his ring entrance. That would be awesome.

Previews are designed to make you think the fight can go either way. ;)

Those UFC preview shows had people convinced Jeremy Horn and Jeff Monson had shots in their fights.

Even I was close to betting on Horn. :lol

i dont see tito taking down chuck

chuck's td defense is great

in recent fights tito hasnt looked all that great, he had a hard time taking down forrest, i'm ignoring the shamrock fights, because at that point in his career shamrock was a glorified can

i see the fight going about the same as the 1st one, chuck by KO in 1st or 2nd

Prefight press conference:

http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=MultiMedia.Detail&gid=4068

I see Tito's only advantage over Chuck being his cardio, and in a 5-round title fight, that can be a factor.

However, in order for it to be a factor, Tito has to

A) survive to the 4th or 5th round

and

B) actually make Chuck work to get tired.

But to do B), Tito has to engage with Chuck and put himself at risk.

I'm not saying that it's impossible for Tito to get Chuck down, but I do think that Chuck is the better wrestler of the two, at least as far as this matchup is concerned. And I also think that if Tito gets Chuck down, he won't be able to keep him down.

In my opinion, Chuck has Tito's number.

OK...let me clarify that its not JUST the previews that make me think that Tito has at least a 50/50 shot, but I think Tito is confident and smart, and that comes across in the previews. Watching all the PPVs (except 2) and shows on Spike go towards that opinion too.

Tito did not want to fight Chuck the first time, and he was stupid by trying to prove something by standing with Chuck. This time he wants the fight. I dont think he has anything to prove, but to try and win anyway possible. In fight 1, the standup was actually pretty even until the eye poke occured, and that was with them standing and banging. Tito's muay thai clinch is vastly improved and could be dangerous in this fight. All IMO of course.

ahoyle77 said:

yes, he did not want to fight Chuck the first time, because he knew Chuck was better than him and that he'd lose.

and he was stupid by trying to prove something by standing with Chuck.

If you repeat a lie a million times, it does not become the truth. Tito did not stand with Chuck to "prove something", he stood with Chuck because he did not have a choice. He tried two shots that went nowhere. Tito wanted the fight on the ground, he just couldn't get it there.

This time he wants the fight. I dont think he has anything to prove, but to try and win anyway possible.

He does seem more motivated, I'll grant you that. But he doesn't want the fight the way Chuck wants the fight. Tito wants the fight to make money and be famous. Chuck wants the fight because he loves to fight.

In fight 1, the standup was actually pretty even until the eye poke occured, and that was with them standing and banging.

The standup in Chuck's fights usually looks even, right until Chuck knocks his opponent out.

Tito's muay thai clinch is vastly improved and could be dangerous in this fight.

I haven't seen anything to suggest his Thai clinch is "vastly improved." He uses it well against Shamrock, but that's the only opponent I've ever seen him really use it against. He won't be using a Thai clinch against Chuck. If he can get that close to Chuck, he won't be reaching for his neck, he'll be shooting for Chuck's legs all night long.

I'm not going to recounter all of your points, and all of them are valid, as all of this is just our(differing) opinions. I will say this, as I think its the biggest factor in the fight. Chuck wins almost all of his fights with highlight reel, 1 punch/kick knockouts. Tito has never lost that way. After the thumb to the eye in the 1st fight, it took 6-8 unanswered punches before Titos knees buckled.

Maybe its the melon head factor. I just dont see Tito getting caught that way, and if it makes it to the 3rd round I see tito grinding out a win. Plus I cant stand Chuck and have been hoping for a while he loses the belt, so half of that is emotions talking.

You'd rather see a loudmouthed jackass like Tito with the belt then Chuck? Ugh. Tito's only chance at winning this is sheer luck he flat out doesn't have the skills necessary to take Chuck out.

Uhhh...yeah. And you make Tito sound like a Jobber coming into this. Regardless of your thoughts about his personality, Tito is a skilled fighter that is dangerous to anyone in the world at his weight class. And I cant argue with Tito being a loudmouth, and hell, he does act like a jackass sometimes, but its funny to me. And thats why I watch, to be entertained.

I mean, whats his shirt going to say? "I melted the Iceman". I want to see that. Plus if Chuck wins I am forced to see 3-4 more months of his stupid xyience commercials.

Well folks, as if we needed any more confirmation, but:

http://www.thefightnetwork.com/news_detail.php?nid=2938

Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer confirmed today that his agency has filed a petition with U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services seeking approval for Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic to compete in UFC 67 at the Mandalay Bay Event Center on February 3, 2007. The UFC has yet to request NSAC approval for a potential opponent.

I can't wait for the event this evening! Has the UFC announced who Rampage's first match will be against? I'd like to see him fight Chuck again, but I'm sure they won't let that happen to quickly.

UFC 67 just became a cant miss show. Before it looked like a dud that would just have two one sided fights. But now with 4 one sided fights (GSP, Silva, CroCop, and Rampage) I have got to see it! :D

Marvin Eastman. It's sort of a revenge match, because Eastman was Rampage's first loss.

Still, at this point, Rampage should destroy him. UFC 67 really should be titled "Night of the One-Sided Massacres"

OK guys...I've been away from MMA for over a year, and last time I checked Pride was the superior organization with agile fighters and entertaining matches whereas UFC featured a bunch of buffed up Americans with next to no technique or intelligence. Has UFC changed? And is Pride really dying? :(

Yes. If you could invest in either company, your best bet is the UFC. They are taking over. WFA went head to head with the UFC and they failed. UFC is the #1 promotion.

I actually really like the sound of that.

I love watching great fights as much as the rest of you but sometime i like watching an event of all highlight reels as well. Plus there's always a slight chance of an underdog win which is always good for a shock or two.
