GSP! I'm going to meet GSP!

No they both dropped to Welterweight after TUF.

EDIT: I just checked out the website for the IFL. Looks pretty cool. I noticed they are having an event in the Quad-Cities in April. I may have to drag my brother along to that.

grr, the April event was supposed to be in Montreal....damn you texans!

Ironically, they could have kept the same title for the event if it was in Montreal :lol

And Horodecki won his IFL fight last night by split decision. Kid's only 19 and is 8-0.

Has anyone taken Kendo around here? Since i'm in japan i figure i would try out some of their martial arts/swordsman training. If you have taken it please give me some of your experience with it and if it is fun to do. Thanks in advance

not big into weapon-ed martial arts. PM karasu, I'm pretty sure he's done sword training.

I'm talking about an IFL event in Illinois not UFC.

okay, but yeah, I was referring to the UFC. should have made that clear.

68 is the Illinois card (with Franklin, Sylvia and Huges all on one card). That pic is 69.

Ohio, actually

So is Crocop fighting Cheick Kongo next? Might even make it past the first round.

I think they'll give him some real competition for his next fight, Arlovski or maybe Paul Buentello (he even fighting for the UFC anymore?).

No way they'll have Crocop vs AA because the outcome of that fight might set up Sylvia vs AA 4.

AA is rumored to be on the same card that Crocop is fighting on next at UFC 70 in Manchester, England on April 21.

ya, I can't see them feeding Arlovski to Crocop yet. And since Kongo is rumoured to be on the UFC 70 card as well, I'd say that's the best bet.

In other news, TKO 28 is taking place tomorrow evening in Montreal, and Team Tompkins fighters Mark Hominick and Sam Stout are fighting. Stout is defending his lightweight title, while Hominick is looking to regain his superlightweight (featherweight) title.

**** FRANK

:lol My sentiments exactly.

Also, last night, Stout won his fight when Holanda couldn't answer the bell at the start of the third round. Holanda just doesn't have any cardio, it seems.

But Hominick lost a majority decision against Hioki. It seems Hioki won the first two rounds, with Mark coming on strong later, but it wasn't enough, it seems.

I'm thinking Kongo is next for Cro Cop too. Seems like he'd be a pretty good step up from Sanchez without wasting huge main event on a non-title match. I think they'll keep Cro Cop away from Arlovski until one of them has the title.

It may be common knowledge around here but THIS is the site I used to see who is gonna be on up coming shows.

That site also has an article talking about how the UFC is currently working on getting laws changed in Illinois and Michigan. That would be pretty sweet if they started running shows in Chicago. Though St Louis would be even better. COME ON MISSOURI!

I'm pretty new to mixed martial arts, so I'm only familiar with the big name guys at this point. I have some stupid newbie questions though, so bear with me:

1.) Are Cro cop and Chuck Liddell in the same weight class?

2.) If so, do you expect that they will fight each other anytime in the near future?

3.) Even if they wouldnt ever realistically fight each other (for rules related reasons) can some of the enthusiasts here speculate on how it would go?

Again, forgive me if my questions are annoyingly stupid.

crocop is hw, chuck is lhw. popular belief is that cropcop would win.I agree.

Crocop is leagues ahead of Chuck in striking skill, and would be heavily favoured.

You can't count Chuck out just by virtue of his knockout power and Crocop's iffy chin, but Crocop unquestionably has the greater skills and power. Crocop would win.

anyone watching this Showtime event? it's been pretty funny so far.:lol

ya. The fights are good though. Especially those women, they were great.

The MC for the internet pre-show was possibly the most annoying human being on the planet, however :-/

Make no mistake, a counter from Chuck ends the fight for sure, but the fight would more likely consist of Chuck circling to his left alot (maybe Sanchez could train him), and sporting an extremely black and blue right torso. CC could definitely KO him with a head kick, but more than likely I see him wearing Chuck down with heavy body kicks and counterpunching Chuck with that heavy left straight, and probably finishing a collapsing Chuck with a flurry of punches to get the TKO.

And Mirko's also the type to just shove you off of him if you try and swarm (which would probably be Chucks plan if CC tried to lead with his hands), as seen against Wand and Fedor. So Chuck really couldn't bully him with his heavy hands.

I would love to see it. :D

wtf happened???
Knees to the back of the head

Shamrock gets up and acts like he wins.. and then they take a point from him :lol

Renzo looks ****ed up

looks like theyre putting a neck brace or something on Renzo. I think its over :(

Frank is such a ****ing asshole
"I THOUGHT WE WERE GUNNA FIGHT!? I THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA FIGHT?!" as Renzo is being walked out of the cage.
What a dickhead

****, Frank has no class! What a bitch.

He was getting owned, gives an illegal strike, and then talks shit?

Dude, you would get owned against ANY top 15 fighter today. What an asshole.

I wanna see this.

Did Gina Carano fight?
I mean, I obviously only care about a good fight. Obviously.

she fought and won. her legs also looked pretty good when she was on her back...

Hot.

Is Showtime gonna re-air this?

Edit: Looks like Wednesday at 11, in HD even. Yay.

He wasn't being owned; it was a close fight up to the DQ with Frank landing more strikes and Renzo dominating position wise.

Frank did, however, behave disgracefully after the match. He was blatantly disrespectful of the rules and his opponent with his "I came to fight" and "I'm old school" nonsense. If he cannot abide by the rules or considers it less than a fight with them in effect, then he should refrain from signing to fight with those conditions.

Just watched the showtime thing on my tivo...

Shamrock was very disapointing.. Very dishonorable behavior.

At the same time, i remember an event a long time ago where Renzo stepped on a guys neck after the ref seperated him and he did it mallicioulsy, so i don't exactly feel bad for him. This was in one of the first events that tried to compete with the UFC and Renzo won if i'm not mistaken, but that little move was pretty cheap IMO. At least he apploogized afterward.

The rest of the action on this card was very entertaining.. Especially the girls... The action was crisp in that fight and they both seemed pretty skilled. The kickboxing chick can punch pretty good and seems to be very strong.

edit// oh yeah.. The commentary was pretty unimpressive. I'm not overly fond of the UFC's commentators, but this was amateur hour IMO.

And while i think frank was pretty nasty at the end of that fight, i also think the current ruleset in MMA fights is way less entertaining than the ruleset used in the earlier contests. I'm especially annoyed by the way they stand fighters up and i don't like the time limit.. both rules cause fighters to stall and actually end up making longer and more boring matches. It was already coming into effect in that match with shamrock trying to stall in that ground situation.. In the old UFC's that tactic would have simply been delaying the inevitable submission and he probably would have tried something more constructive.

And also...The knees to the back of the head should be a legal tactic in that situation.. It's an obvious way to deal with a grappler who's on top of you and these kinds of rules favor pure grappling on the ground and stop fights from being truly dynamic. Knees to the head on the ground are very effective and removing them is artificial... It also results in more decision's and less KO's... That's not good for the excitment of the sport. It may favor the health of the fighters to some extent, but i don't remember any life threatening injuries in the early UFC's and the rules made most fights much shorter which resulted in less overall head trauma. These guys aren't taking the same type of brain abuse as boxers do, but it's getting closer and closer with each rule that limits the fighters ability to end things quickly.

Agreed, looking back, I way overstated that. I was just shocked at how easily Renzo took Frank down and passed his practically non-existent guard.

And ya, we can complain about the rules, but that doesn't change the fact that Frank knew the rules coming in. I agree that knees to the head should be allowed, but I don't see it happening for a while.

yeah, the whole presentation of the show was pretty bad. like, why do i need to watch everyone get frisked? can't they do that shit backstage? :lol

there were also a lot of dead moments where the commentators didn't say a word during the fight.

Actually, the most hilarious/ridiculous/pathetic part is Frank talking in the post-fight interview about how he's "old school" when he actually started his career and fought over half of his fights in Pancrase where you couldn't even punch with a gawdamned closed fist.

Old school my ass!
