Anyway, it seems Brock Lesnar has been signed by the UFC, although it was safe to assume that something was in the works after Goldberg's comments during UFC 75.

I can't make threads otherwise I would make a UFC 76 thread. Here's some easy stuff to paste though if someone just wants to just paste my post and make a new thread, I'll only go through the two main fights:

UFC 76 Main card

Light heavyweight bout: Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine

Liddell of course is coming off his title loss to Ramage, and Jardine is coming off a loss to then unknown, Houston Alexander, after complaining he didn't get a more "Name" opponent at the time. Now, here's his chance. I consider Liddell the heavy favorite here, he has the advantage in every way possible - experience, striking, ground. I really see no difference here between Jardine and some of Liddell's past dominating performances against similar fighters. Let's be real, Liddell and Silva should have been the fight, but Silva needed more time to get prepared for a fight, and UFC wouldn't postpone Liddell's fight for another month. Liddell by KO in Round 1, setting up a #1 contender match with Wanderlei, as long as he handles his opponent of course.

Light heavyweight bout: Mauricio Rua vs. Forrest Griffin

The much anticipated debut of "Shogun" in the UFC. Considered by many the best pound for pound fighter in MMA today, Rua is the heavy favorite. Forrest Griffin meanwhile, is looking for that marquee victory to propel himself to the top tier of the LHW division of UFC, ever since that controversial loss to Tito Ortiz last year. I just do not think Griffin can hang with Shogun, although in the first minutes I think he could make it interesting, but will lose to the superior fighter in Round 2, by KO.

Welterweight bout: Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch
Light heavyweight bout: Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Lyoto Machida
Lightweight bout: Tyson Griffin vs. Thiago Tavares

Preliminary card
Lightweight bout: Diego Saraiva vs. Jeremy Stephens
Heavyweight bout: Scott Junk vs. Christian Wellisch
Lightweight bout: Michihiro Omigawa vs. Matt Wiman
Lightweight bout: Anthony Johnson vs. Rich Clementi

Check it out, Fedor's at TGS :D

Stole this from the MMAweekly forums. Its pretty fucking cool if you ask me.

sl0wb0t - 9/25/2007 12:01 PM

Hey guys,

I've been a member of this forum for over two years now and I've learned a tremendous amount from all of you. I believe this to be the best MMA forum on the Internet. Because I put so much stock in the opinions of the regulars around here, I wanted to give you all a first look at a project of mine called FightMetric. With all the controversy about judging, scoring, and the relative value of different techniques, I think this is timely.

What I've done in a nutshell is gathered data on thousands of matches to see what truly matters in ending a fight. Based on the finishing potential of varying techniques and the proportion of fight endings in each ground position, I've been able to assign true, objective values to every strike, submission attempt, takedown, and position change in the sport, as well as incorporate factors like damage and knockdowns. With the results from a fight plugged into an algorithm, the product is an all-in-one score that measures the effectiveness of a fighter in a match that went to a decision. This is not meant to replace subjective judging or act as a mere counting statistic (like CompuBox), but rather is a comprehensive MMA evaluation tool, with its scores rooted in what thousands of fights teach us about what matters most.

I’ve completed two reports so far, with several more coming in the near future. You can see the first ones here:

Georges St. Pierre vs. B.J. Penn
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=11MU04Z3

Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2TPY6BX0

I sincerely apologize for the Megaupload thing, the site should be set up pretty soon.

I’m not selling anything, I’m just looking for feedback. If you have the time to take a look, let me know if you have any comments or questions. I’m always looking for ways to make the system better.

That is interesting. Props to the guy for the work he puts into it. I have one major criticism and that is he doesn't score takedowns defended. I know he says defense don't win fights but he scores escaping mount and other position improvements from the bottom which are defensive grappling maneuvers same as takedown defense. And defending takedowns do win fights because they will confer advantage, just see Chuck and Crocop vs grapplers or even Fitch vs Diego. Fightmetric had Diego winning the grappling portion of the fight with Fitch by a decisive margin but I'd argue Fitch looked like the better grappler of the two.

Just for shits and giggles: The robbery of Hammil against Bisping:

Leg Strikes: Hamill 1/1 Bisping 13/16

Ground Strikes: Hamill 11/20 Bisping 1/8

Takedowns/Sub. Att: Hamill 6/0 Bisping 0/0

Inside the Numbers: Hamill landed 34 of 86 standing arm strikes in round one to 12 of 67 for Bisping. Hamill had a 28-21 edge in total strikes landed in rounds two and three. Hamill threw 57 standing arm strikes in rounds two and three combined. Bisping threw 90 standing arm strikes in rounds two and three. Hamill recorded six takedowns in three rounds.

Also apparently Henderson vs Ortiz is rumored for UFC 78, which is nice - better than the also rumored match against evans (zzzzzzzzzzz), but i dont want tito in any main events anymore. The event still doesnt have a main event ever since Sherk vs BJ was cancelled.

Same here. His main event days should have been over immediately after he was spanked (literally) by Couture.

They should just pit him against Houston. That way Houston can advance in style, and Tito retire with his beautiful girlfriend.

Franklin is gonna fuck Silva up!!!!!! How? I have no fucking idea.

WAR FRANKLIN!

I gotta say , Silva is amazing. Amazing footwork, aggression, accuracy, and bjj.

I do not know how rich can beat that. I would maybe say his bet is ground and pound against the cage or using punches to set up a sweep and using his strength to try and force some good opportunities for him.

That being said, I think itll be anderson's night again. IF franklin wins, thats probably how.

Big tim vs vera...I dunno. Vera already beat Mir, who was a former champ...but yeah. big tim is huge. vera will not finish tim, thats for sure.

Some news update:

Nog vs Kongo in '08
Ok match, Nog should win unless another flash knock down happens. I hope Nog finishes quick in the first and doesn't get hurt so we can have Nog vs Randy first quarter of next year.

Bisping vs Evans main event for 78
Very weak. Co-main eventers at best. Hope they get a good main event to help this ppv out. Evans should win easy here. Bisping can't stop the takedown. I say Bisping goes to 185 after he finds out how strong top 205'er can be.

Kimbo vs Tank off
Boo! Would have been fun to see Kimbo sub Tank.

As for 77, I'm going with Silva and Sylvia. Franklin better be the best he's ever been or he'll get steamrolled again. This will be a great fight if it doesn't end early. Would be incredible if Franklin wins this rematch too.

FEDOR COMMITS TO M-1

PRIDE Heavyweight Champion To Headline First Show Under New Ownership

By Loretta Hunt (loretta@thefightnetwork.com)

PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko has committed exclusively to the new ownership of M-1 Mix-Fight Championship, which has been [/b]purchased outright by an undisclosed American entertainment-related company[/b], according to a source close to the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Established in 1997, the St. Petersburg-based M-1 held over 30 events under the ownership of Russian businessman Vadim Finkelstein, also the long-time manager of the much-sought-after Emelianenko. Finkelstein is also the proprietor of the Red Devil Sports Club, a facility and team that houses numerous Russian fighters, including PRIDE veteran Roman Zentsov and former UFC middleweight Andrei Semenov.

The source confirmed the new ownership has infused a substantial amount of capital into the organization. Finkelstein and others will stay on to assist in running the company, which will continue to promote under a variation of the M-1 name. The new M-1 will take more of a global stance, and Emelianenko (26-1) will headline its inaugural event as early as January or February, possibly in the U.S., the source said.
On March 27, Ultimate Fighting Championship majority owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta bought the assets of PRIDE, only to discover Emelianenko had previously signed a non-exclusive, non-transferable contract with its former owners, Dream Stage Entertainment.

As late as September, UFC president Dana White had insisted a deal with Emelianenko was imminent, though repeated negotiations between Finkelstein, colleague Apy Echteld and the Las Vegas outlet could not produce an agreement to bring the Stary Oskol resident to the famed Octagon. A major point of contention was White’s insistence Emelianenko sign an exclusive contract with the American promotion, which would exclude Emelianenko’s participation in Sambo competitions. Emelianenko is a three-time World Combat Sambo champion and ambassador for the sport in his homeland.

Undefeated in 24 fights (including one no contest), Emelianenko is widely received as the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter. The 31-year-old former Army firefighter rose to the top of PRIDE’s ranks by besting standouts like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (30-4-1) and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (22-6-2). Emelianenko submitted 2000 Olympic Greco-Roman silver medallist Matt Lindland (20-5) at Bodog Fight “Clash of the Nations” on April 14 in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has not competed since.

A formal announcement of the purchase, as well as plans for the new organization’s first event, is expected by the end of this month.

Unless of course, that american company is Zuffa..

I could have sworn I saw this talked about on Sherdog 2+ weeks ago, and it ended up being unfounded (could have sworn it was the same website, too). I'll believe it when I see it more widely reported and confirmed.

And on a side note, I'd love to see another legitimate second global contender emerge to take on some of the remaining top free agents, and challenge the UFC in the US.

I think it was frank trigg who mentioned it on a radio show, but gave no other details.

And another legitimate global contender is all well and good, but fedor belongs in the ufc if his legacy means anything to him. Besides Barnett, hes got nobody to fight.

We've had two major orgs for years, I'd like to see one org dominant for awhile, at least til the top tens get sorted out.

My guess is EliteXC bought them out. Why they haven't made it official with a lot of publicity I don't know. Probably not a finalized deal yet.

Coming from bobsappfan, legendary MMA internet info leaker:

"Fedor himself will announce the new owners (of M-1) in just over a week."

Other info about the news:

-a billion dollar company

-has the word "world" in there new MMA company name

-not Bodog

-not showtime

-not HBO

-not HDfight

This has led to speculation that there is a WWE/McMahon connection, and it has been well known that McMahon has showed interest in starting or owning an MMA organization.

Assuming that the Randy angle is true, this could conceivably mean Fedor vs Randy could happen. Who freaking knows at this point?

The Randy situation still irks me. I can see both sides of the story.

Much respect for him standing up for fighter's rights to proper compensation - if something is to be done about it, he's the one with the pull to get the ball rolling. However, he was the one who inked a 1 million/4 fight deal and then walked out 2 fights in because the money isnt right - where's the honor in that? That makes no sense to me - because if he thought he was worth more than 250k after he was coming off a year out and a KO loss to a LHW, then he shouldn't of picked up that pen when Dana put the contract in front of him.

I also respect his desire to fight the top guy in the world, especially at this stage in his career/life. I agree that at this stage in his career, not too many fights make sense for him. He doesn't need/want anymore fights to pad a career record. He doesn't want to fuck around anymore - instead only doing what is most meaningful to him, and that in itself is inspiring. The problem with that though, is that he is the ufc champion - and that comes with certain obligations and responsibilities, especially when your contract is not up.

Dana's comments are absolutely ridiculous though. Here's hoping M1 is bought by the McMahons, so they can show Dana how the president of a company should act. (Dont bring up any off the on air bullshit McMahon does - the man is a consummate professional when it comes to business)

Sylvia will beat Vera, mark my words. I'm looking forward to it.

I also hope Franklin beats Anderson Silva via KO. I don't think that will happen though.

I'm upset that Randy is not going to be there to pick underdog winners in fights any more. He went out with a perfect record for Nostradamus predictions.

Does anyone know what's going on with Sherk and his appeal? Is it due to happen this month or next? I'd like to see champions in the Lightweight and Heavyweight divisions. Winner of Silva/Vera fights the winner of Kongo/Nogueira for the title?

Vera, Okami, and Silva going to run train tonight! Choo! Choo!

You mean Okami is gonna do nothing for 2 and half rounds but "counter punch"(run away) then get a takedown in the last 2 minutes and pillow fist MacDonald until the fight ends. :D

Actually he said he's gonna be more agressive for this fight so we'll see.

Anyway my picks.....

Franklin
Sylvia (rooting for Vera though)
MacDonald
Belcher
Bonnar
Grice
Robinson
Burkman
Jensen

God I hope Vera destroys Tim in 10 different ways. I even hope he wins with a "money move". :lol

Anyone know what Ed Herman's up to? I miss short fuse.

Edit: 10 seconds of being un-lazy and I see that he's taking on Terrell at 78. Wow. That oughta be fantastic. *pumps fist*

I really cant pick between okami/ jmac, silva / franklin, or big timmy and brand the TRUTH vera....Any of those can go either way.

anyone else see the interview with that white nationalist fighter? sherdog went from " fuck this guy!" to " actually he makes good points, no hate from me. "

I dunno, its got a championship fight, and ex champ vs brandon vera...those are big deals for us hardcore mma fans

EDIT**** plus come on man its ANDERSON SILVA, how many times a year do you get to see muay thai like that? how many times a year do you get to see a guy truly bring a martial art to life like ryu did in street fighter???

I kinda assumed you typo'd on the number since one was tomorrow and traditionally people hate tim and 185 is ignored.

rich via gnp, or anderson by anything else

Well outside the two main fights I do this card is pretty lackluster and I'm usually pretty easy to please. Its still not as bad as 72 though. That one's top two fights werent even that good. Then again it was free.

stephan bonnar will be interesting to see...hes had a lot of time off to get way better and finally got a good camp, I expect him to make a good showing.

Dana laying down the law regarding Randy's situation.
It was a good interview until he lied at the end about the HW division being fine before Randy came back. Tim bored the hell out of everyone so they were lucky Randy stepped in to sell the ppv. The title shot was not a gift for Randy as if the UFC is a charity, it was a mutually beneficially agreement.

IIRC, the appeal is at the end of this month.

Also fuck Anderson Silva. I hope Ace smashes his face in......though I wouldnt bet on it.
:lol It's like you always hate on the fighter the bandwagon fans jump on. Ace definitely has a shot to win.

Well, my playground picks are:

Silva, but betting on Rich
Vera, but betting on Tim (the two main events should be great fights)
Okami but MacDonald will be partially blamed for the slow fight
Starnes, Bonnar, Black, Burkman by slam, and I guess Jensen

Asbel said:

I'm only hating on Anderson because he's fighting my favorite MW. I root for him against pretty much anyone else in the division.

Fedor signs a 2 year, 6 fight deal with clause stating a fight with randy in the UFC still possible.

PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko announced that he has signed a six-fight, two-year fight contract with M-1 Global — a new mixed martial arts organization — today at a press conference at Marc Ecko Enterprises in downtown Manhattan.

This information was revealed in the media kit for the event, which was attended by Jesse Holland from UFCmania.com. It was supposed to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET; however, delays pushed the start back to a little after 6 p.m. ET.

In addition, the “mystery” owner of the new promotion was revealed in a press release earlier today and confirmed at the packed New York City event.

Here are those details:

“Sibling Entertainment Group Holdings, Inc. announced Sibling Theatricals, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sibling Entertainment Group, Inc., together with Garlin Holdings Limited as Managing Members, have formed Sibling Sports, LLC for the purpose of creating M-1 Global …”

Monte Cox — the long-time manager of mixed martial artists such as former welterweight champion Matt Hughes — was was named President and CEO of M-1 Global.

At this time, no opponent or date has been set for the debut of the Russian superstar under the M-1 banner. However, M-1 is searching for a television partner and is eager to stage an event as early as February 2008.

In the next 10 days, M-1 will reveal its stable of fighters who will join Emelianenko on the new roster. In addition, Jesse is passing along news that Emelianenko’s contract will allow him to fight in the UFC if a deal can be struck between the two organizations.

Furthermore, M-1 representatives indicate that the winner of the bout would earn a $1 million payday.

Other highlights:

UFC turned down an offer to match Emelianenko up against Tim Sylvia when both were champions in there respective organizations.
Fedor mentioned that his brother, Aleks, was offered a “low ball” contract to fight inside the Octagon. The goal is to sign him to an M-1 contract as soon as possible.
M-1 will follow PRIDE FC rules for the most part and not include elbows.
Fedor rejects the “number one pound for pound fighter” in the world label because he hasn’t fought and defeated all the best fighters in the world.
More info coming in …

M-1 is gonna die a quick death me thinks.

Having Fedor is going to do zero for ppv sales.
Just like it did for Bodog

People in the states don't know MMA fighters.. they know the UFC.

So WTF is going on with the heavyweight UFC belt? Fedor vs Randy for the heavyweight title? Or Sylvia vs. Big Nog/Kongo winner for the title and Fedor vs Randy as a one-off fight for cool guy points?

If by the off chance Randy works things out with the UFC, i still dont see the fight happening. Dana would not allow the UFC champion to even risk losing to someone who he cant promote and make money off as a result. Its way too risky to make any business sense.
