Mixtape Review Thread (Potential Reddit's Game of The Year)

Under 3 hours length, no gameplay, ugly graphics and animations, woke propaganda.
This is what modern gaming journalists call a 10/10. Fucking scammers.

Please guys, the gameplay has no substance, there's no meat to it. A full playthrough video dropped an hour ago on YouTube and it's ~2.5 hours long, and mostly walking and simplistic mini-games. You barely do anything. I had this on my wishlist, but skipping through the gameplay video made me realize it's all window dressing.
If that's not a 10/10 IGN reviewed game I don't know what could ever hit those heights! 😉

I'm not defending this game specifically, I'm defending against the idea and negative opinion that games below 4 hours aren't worth it.

Equating time to value will always be seen as wrong to me.
Value is subjective. Making such a short game will limit sales because many people do actually consider price vs time as an important metric when deciding on purchasing a game. I wouldn't pay full movie ticket price for a 15 minute short film regardless of quality.

PSN numbers so far:

Global player ratings

4.95 Average rating 4.95 stars out of five stars from 128 ratings

5 star - 95%
4 star - 5%
3 star - 0%
2 star - 0%
1 star - 0%

Still no one explains why they think it is woke.

This doesn't look like the type of game I'd typically play, but I'm not one to ignore pretty wide praise. I'll definitely give this a shot on game pass.

I saw a couple clips and it seems like it could be cool. I'm also a sucker for good music interweaved in gameplay.

2-3 hours seems like the right amount of time I'd want to spend with a game like this, so I'll probably give it a whirl.

There's a play though already up. There is basically no gameplay. 2 hours and 40 minutes until credits. I'm surprised they don't just option this to Netflix. Good for folks that like this type of "game" I suppose.

Jesus Christ this looks like unrepentant dog shit.

Just seen the trailer. Well, I'm happy for the devs if the game is doing well.

Personally, this is another example of why most of the games I buy nowadays, seem to be developed in Japan. Just not my taste.

Mixtape looks cool to me, sorry guys. I've been interested in checking it out since it was first announced. Then again, I'm a sucker for well done coming-of-age stories.

I'm excited to check this out later. Happy to see it doing so well too!

Ok I just started it.
  • It's cringe from the word go
  • There's no way to turn off the terrible 15 fps animations on the characters, so there's this weird disconnect between their animations and the the actual fps of the game
  • Can't turn off any of the post-processing separately. No way to disable chromatic aberration, depth of field, etc.
  • Game doesn't expose the engine.ini file, so no way to get around the aforementioned settings menu limitations
  • No HDR toggle, so not sure if the game actually supports it or not
  • No DLSS/FSR/XeSS
  • Image quality is horrific. One of the blurriest games I've ever seen
Off to an amazing start.

This game looks pretty decent to me for the price - £13.94 with PS+ discount. Made by the same devs who created The Artful Escape which I really enjoyed. I'll be picking it up at some point for sure.

Gaf like clockwork:

>liberal looking game that gaf wants to hate gets high scores: I KNEW IT, WHO CARES ABOUT THESE CRITICS ROFL IGN

Fucking called it back in the Crimson Desert OT.

I knew the game was lacking a tonsil hockey mini-game. I said that it was essential to make Crimson Desert ascend to greatness.

You guys all called me crazy and a hater. Who's laughing now?

This is precisely the reason why IGN could not give Crimson Desert a higher score in good conscience.

That math doesn't add up. This would be like paying 25% of the movie ticket's price for that 15 minute short film.

Otherwise I get your point, I just agree to disagree.

Holy fucking shit I couldn't stand it and dropped it after a few songs. It's even worse than I imagined. Every character is cringe. The art style is horrific corporate slop. There's literally no gameplay.

Every person who gave this a good score should have their civil rights taken away.

Scores only matter when they fit the agenda.

Im genueinly curious about this game.
Its only ~3 hours I can finish it this weekend.
Its on Gamepass so other than time i could probably pull it off.

Reviewer compares it to a John Hughes film during his prime (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Home Alone). Once I see how it runs on the Steam Deck OLED I'm probably gonna buy it. I loved Dispatch and generally find these "interactive story" type games great palette cleansers between AAA releases.

I really enjoyed Dispatch ... will this be like that? I don't mind a simpler game or "interactive novel" if it has a good story to tell.
Yeah, if we're talking Dispatch/Telltale, cool. Not really games as much as they are glorified TV shows/movies larping as games, but they're fun experiences.

This one only being 2-3 hours long though? Wtf?

I was gonna say this looks fine based on the trailer, but then I went to this page and wtf lol LordCBH LordCBH

Also I feel like all these 90s nostalgia games are aiming for the early 90s which I'm too young to really remember :pie_thinking:. Someone should make a game about the late 90s/early 2000s which were totally different.

Wait what the hell, this game is suppoosed to be set in 1999? I call bullshit, people like this were extinct by then, if they ever existed to begin with.

Stacy Rockford is a girl and Colin is a boy.

This proves it is not woke.

It's also reminiscent of gameplay in other walking sims like that bullshit one where you go over the chicks dead family tree that I hated.

I can tell I'll probably like this one though.

Stay based.

Yeah this might actually be on my radar now. Don't care if it's woke (or not). That kind of universal praise doesn't come easy. If it's well written and creative, I'm interested.
