Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 still "progressing"

Fucking hell

Pikmin 4
Metroid Prime 4
Pokémon RPG

Switch has a healthy few years ahead, good to know these are all lurking in the shadows.

I could see Pikmin 4 being shown during a holiday Direct and then released Q1/Q2 along with the Kirby and Yoshi games.

Do Pikmin games sell that well? Felt like a huge gap between 2 and 3, now we getting them a lot quicker

The first two sold alright, both million sellers. First game sold 1.60 million, which I'd argue are pretty solid sales for a new IP on a relatively unpopular console. Not a smash hit like Splatoon, but still good.

It's really only Pikmin 3 that didn't do so well at all, and a lot of that was because of the Wii U's pitiful userbase.

Pikmin, Kirby, Yoshi, Pokemon, Metroid, 3D Mario, Fire Emblem....

Just Animal Crossing and Smash missing.

And someone please ask the Sonic Racing team to make F-Zero.

I was worried the "new Pikmin" that's been name dropped over the last year or two was "Hey! Pikmin", so this is good to hear.

Was one of those assumptions I was never able to buy in for a second.

People really thought Hey! Pikmin was Pikmin 4? News to me.

Whenever it is ready, I will be there. Take your time you magnificent genius.

Nintendo PR: "Mr. Miyamoto, you must stop revealing a bunch of stuff just because some guy asks you. Just say 'no comment' or something...please..."
Miyamoto: "*laughs* Make me, bitches."

Which is a shame because it's easily one of the best and most innovative games on the console. What a great game. I look forward to many people being introduced to the franchise with Pikmin 4 :D

So I think 2018 for Switch will be:

- Kirby
- Yoshi
- Fire Emblem
- Pikmin 4
- Project Octopath Traveller
- more surprises

And then possibly 2019:

- Pokémon
- Metroid Prime 4
- Shin Megami Tensei
- No More Heroes
- more surprises

I was worried that after having such great titles this year 2018 would be weak, but so far it's looking good.

Just add a new Super Smash game on there and a new Animal Crossing and I am set for the system's lifespan.

Or they could try and push it as a Summer title in the equivalent of Splatoon 2's 2017 slot.

Would be interesting if they really pushed it as a major IP this time round.

So excited.

Potential 2018 line-up is already bonkers.

There will obviously be 2018 and 2019 games that haven't been announced yet and Octopath could be a 2017 game. We haven't been told one way or another and we were already seeing gameplay when it was announced.

Well what have they been doing for the last 2 years? If it was near completion then are they having trouble porting it to Switch or something? Surely it should have been in the spotlight as a 2018 title? It would have been massive for them. Weird since they're open to talking about it, just not showing it.

Anyone know how much staff Pikmin and Mario Maker had in common (Shikamaru Ninja?)

I know it's the same division of EPD, but not sure if it's actually the same staff members (e.g. Animal Crossing and Splatoon are the same division, but not actually the same team). I wonder how possible it is to have a Pikmin 4 and a Mario Maker 2 in the next few years. I'm bracing for this being a ways off like Pikmin 3 was though.

It's good to know for sure just how many major IPs on on horizon for the Switch. Yoshi, Kirby, Metroid Prime, Pikmin and Fire Emblem? We're off to a great start.

I do wanna say, I never doubted there was a Pikmin 4 existing separately from Hey Pikmin, I was just never sure if that was the game Miyamoto referred to as near-done back in 2015. I'm pretty happy it's all cleared up now. The series would be perfect on Switch.

That's good news. Probably should have shown it at E3 like they did with Metroid 4, just a screen saying it's in development for the Switch.

Hey Pikmin! is still not out so there is no reason to put away focus from that when Pikmin 4 is probably not out until next year.

That's all we needed to hear, that it exists. That's just as good as an E3 reveal for me. 2D Metroid and Pikmin 4 were the 2 things I was hoping for this year.

Just go on http://kyoto-report.wikidot.com and compare the credits of each game. There is overlap but also enough difference that both could be worked on at the same time.

Remember that group was working on New Super Mario Bros 2 and U and Pikmin 3 at the same time. So I don't think making the next 2d Mario and Pikmin 4 will be a problem.

So there'll be one after Hey Pikmin. Good to know for sure.

Agreed! In the meantime, I expect Hey! Pikmin to be a good game.

(And Amy Pikmin fans jonesing for a pik-pik fix should definitely check out the massive Pikmin attraction in Nintendo Land, which is packed with content and serves as a love letter to the franchise.)

Oh I could (browse the site all the time), I was just wondering if anyone here knew off the top of their head cause I like hearing their insight :V

But yeah I checked now myself and just scanning the list I do see that yeah, there's enough separation that both can conceivably be worked on hand-in-hand. That's good to know. Both would be great near-future Switch games.

Wait, did people really think the side scrolling Pikmin was Pikmin 4?

Weren't you tipped off by the fact that it wasn't called Pikmin 4?

This is what I think too. They already said they have halted development on Pikmin 4 at different stages for some time, it apparently had less priority at those points, and now it is likely held back to give hey Pikmin a chance to shine.

There was an article on IGN last July I recall that said a new Pikmin game was ready for Wii U...guess they had to redo it for Switch

Figured this was the case, but it's always good to hear a confirmation.

That being said, while I'm looking forward to Hey Pikmin, it would be nice to see Pikmin 3 DX to hold us over.
