MLB 07 The Show (PS3) Thread

Well, you sold me. Time to sell my game back.

On a more serious note, I decided to do some folding@home after finishing up a game, and let it run for about a hour or so. Then I turned it off. I come back to play another game in Franchise, and now my PS3 sounds like it's a goddamned rocket taking off for space. It was always pretty quiet even when the fans were running, but now it sounds like it's going it's preparing for take off. I figured something was up and shut it off. If it's like that tomorrow, I'm going to be PISSED. I wanted to play some more. =(

When will you all learn! First Gen Sports games ftl!

When MLB The Show 08 comes out for PS3...and I have a PS3, I may get it. For now, I'm still sticking with MLB The Show, Madden, etc, on PS2.

Jesus Christ thats some bug.
:lol

Almost as worthy as the MLB2K7 wall climb.:b
I was considering unloading the game for The Show but nah,I'll just stay the course and stick with what I have I guess.

Thing is some people here havent had some of these issues sportzhead is having.I havent had freezing issues,I havent seen any balls going through bats when I miss and felt I should have made contact.

After playing show 06 for over a year I dont have the same issues fielding and throwing that he does playing 07,it plays like Show 06 with more animations.

Id rather play this any day of the week over MLB 2K7,which is basically MLB Slugfest with awesome graphics.

Well Matrix, the freezing problem has seemed to stop now. Don't know how it stopped, but it just did. But I'm not going to be playing it anymore so it really doesn't matter. I'm glad you guys like the game so I'm not going to continue to post negative comments about it.

I actually like MLB2k7 on the 360 this year, and we all know that game has some bugs too. But after a lot of slider tweaks, it plays pretty great, minus the home run heavy games from time to time. So at least we all get to play a baseball game we enjoy this year. Hear that NFL, we get choices you bastards.

Looks like my PS3 is fine, guess it was just cranky after folding or something.

Sadly, that was bad news for me since I got rocked in the game I played. =(

man, playing franchise right now, and it's crazy. I've been comeback on so many times I'm almost frustrated. Again though, this happened to me with Madden '04 until I finally got used to the game. Basic baserunning errors, missing the cut off man, but once I get the hang of that, I'll be fine.

I still can't get through more than an inning or two online without it disconnecting. Very, very frustrating. I figured this would clear up after a few days to no avail.

So I went to play a game of 2K7 since I had to quench my jones. I was the Mets vs. some guy's Yanks. He was up 1-0 in the 9th with 2 outs and I hit a game-tying homer off of Mariano with Beltran.

So the jerk quit.

Bluealien - damn you!!!!!

Sounds like a true Yankees fan.

3-3 in my franchise so far. Man I love this game. I love working the count against the pitcher. Not sure what it is, but with w/e camera angle I'm using, I can see the baseball pretty well in this game, which I enjoy. Pitch guessing adds another factor into it. Especially when you guess right, but still don't think it's the right pitch to hit, then you guess the perfect one and KABLAMMO!

Awesome game.

Did you change it or still using the default? The regular angle is good but I'm still chasing too many high fastballs. I tried switching to wide for a bit but then I had trouble reading breaking pitches.

My first online game got disconnected after the first inning, but I'm not sure if it was a legit disconnect, or if the guy just yanked his cable out because I was already winning 3-0. Second game went on without a hitch, though the guy playing was a straight up jerk. I have all my consoles DMZed so maybe that has something to do with why I was able to play without a disconnect. I'll play more games online tomorrow to see if I run into more disconnects.

Robbed my first home run today, with Shawn Green of all people. :lol

I am playing road to the show and the weirdest thing happened. I was called up to the Mets on 9/2 and was sent back down to AAA on 9/2.

They changed their minds. You got owned. =P

3-6 in my Franchise as a Brewers. My pitching is great, it's just my hitting is shoddy. I can't generate any offense no matter how well I work the count. UGH! :lol

Me and Denog had a great game online. Good connection after we turned off our pcs, and good game overall. :)

I have two suggestions for the league though. First one is that we turn off hot/cold zones. The second is to turn off the batters ability to guess a pitch. It is annoying that even if the batter guesses the right pitch (without the location) you lose total control over the pitch. Makes the game unrealistic and too auto cursor driven..

So, do I need to see people in the online rooms in the game before I can add them to my buddy list to play games? Maybe I'm missing something here, but it's annoying.

Yeah you gotta challenge them from the lobby.

Thanks. It's so annoying because you have to back out to get a message in the XMB, etc. etc. The pleasures of a "free" service. Can't wait till they work it all out.

Ugh played my first game online, crappy lag and got booted in the 5th inning.

The vagaries of P2P. :( I had a great game tonight with very little lag, a 2-1 pitchers duel going down to the wire. Then my next opponent was a stuttery mess that disconnected in the 4th. Grr.

They really need to add some kind of bar (or whatever) to represent people's pings in the lobby. It's a total crapshoot who you're playing against.

Just had an epic 13-inning battle against the Royals.

Ibanez belted a homer into the seats, opposite field and J.J. Putz struck out the side in the bottom of the 13th.

Typical Mariners, though, lots of stranding runners on base....

I even got a few doubles today!!

And as a sidenote: in the 6 games or so that I've tried online, every single one has been laggy :(

Tried another game, this time if was a full game and we didnt get booted, but the whole game was just a shitfest of lag.

Man,Show 06 was nowhere near this bad on PS2 online.

This better getting fixed,we cant play a league like this.

Sorry to inform you that you're gonna be forced to buy Madden 360 this year. :(

I've been called up three times over two seasons and only gotten to play in one game.

Oh well. The Zephyrs need me, obviously.

Wow, this game continues to make me smile, even if it makes me want to PUNCH SOMETHING (in a good way). Went to 12 innings against the Cards. Back and forth contest and I made some STUPID baserunning mistakes to **** myself over in a couple of innings. I'm up 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th, and I bring in my closer for the save. Mother ****er blew the damn save (I left a slider out over the plate), and it goes extra innings. I finally manage two runs in the 12th off a sac fly and a base hit later in the inning and was able to shut them down in the bottom half.

Just wow. I have so much fun with this game.

Anyone else doing road to the show?

I'm absolutely digging it. This is the first time I've tried it out. It is like Madden's superstar mode, but good.

My created pitcher for the Cubs organization got sent to AA as a starting pitcher after spring training. As I won more games, I amassed points I could use on training my pitcher to get better at certain pitches. I got to 10-1 as a starter and I asked to be sent up to AAA, and my request was approved. Which lead to a little surprise. The AAA manager decided to put me in a relief role when I got up, because there were no opening starter positions (Mark Prior is the ace of the cubs AAA team lolz). I was a bit miffed, and the first game I was inserted in a relief role I gave up 7 total runs, 4 earned in one inning pitched. It was bad. :lol After the game too I had the opportunity to ask to be on the starting rotation, and the manager denied this request. :( Then the next game the number 5 starter got injured, and if it was meant to be I got inserted into the number 5 starting rotation slot. I won a couple games as a starter, cruising along near the MLB All star break when all sorts of crazy happened. During the break, I ended up getting traded to the Athletics, and then a couple days later they traded me to the Cardinals! I didn't save after this, as I was somewhat shocked at getting moved not once but twice in like two weeks! I guess I'll have to deal with not being on the cubs though, as I reloaded my save and they traded me again at the All Star game. :( I'm the hot prospect being traded for the crafty veteran!

:lol Thats awesome, your own team hates you.

Yeah I was playing RttS all morning long. I'm worried I will forgot to hit with the limited opportunities I get in this mode!

As long as it isn't the disastros! I'll burn my disc before accepting a trade there! :D

Imported this because of you guys and got it delivered today (UK), adore it and it pees on MLB 2k7 for me so thanks for the love of this game guys :D Also not had any stuttering at 720p (not tried upconverting to 1080p and Im on a 20gig JPN model).

I don't own a PS3, but my one friend is addicted to 'Road to the Show'. When I see him, he gives me an update of what happened to his pitcher like it personally happened to him...

"So then I pitched two shutouts in a row. And I tipped my hat. And then I worked on my sinker...But they traded me!!"

He singlehandedly convinced my friend to go out and buy a PS3 for this game, and now a total of 3 of my friends have their own created player doing RTTS.

As a 360 owner, I hope MLB2K8 has a similar feature!

The online play is disappointing, this is true.

The game itself, though, is fantastic. I usually play baseball games for a week then toss them aside, but from the variance of every game I play, to the fantastic replays - I'm constantly amazed by how good the game plays.

<3

Well for me the 2k Baseball series was the reason I imported a USA xbox years ago (they just dont get released over here) and I spent ages learning about the stats of Baseball just to be able to play these type of games (we only get sporadic coverage which is a shame, lucky if we get one game a week on Channel 5) but I stuck with it and it made playing them more rich for it. I then got into MVP but prefered 2k series up till this year (just dont like it I find it too automated for me now with fielding and batting is either too easy or if i ramp it up too bloody hard with the speed etc..). The Show feels for me the best of MVP and how the 2k series used to be. Just finished another marathon sesssion as Cardinals and dropped it in overtime on the 11th to go 0-2 but it was so intense especially watching my pitcher rack up 10 strikes on the trot and seeing him get better and better.

Have noticed something already what doesnt seem to been posted before and thats spotting right when your at bat. I have noticed by turning the batting icon on that if you correctly guess say a 4s fast ball the actual scope size of the batting icon grows massivly but if you get it wrong it decreases, same if you choose the wrong area. Im learning already to choose an area and stick to it with guessing to get some sweet hits, but I can judge balls better as the speeds arent mentally fast as 2k on harder level.

Also noticed ramping up to 1080p halfs the frame rate and makes it stutter like crazy!

Finally could someone just verify how you actually do flyballs/grounders? It mentions I move the right stick but how the chuff do you move the right stick up for a flyball at the same time as pressing the X button and moving the left stick? Do you just nudge up once before guessing the pitch or after it as I cant see Ive seen it make any different to what I do so far to the circle icon?

I would say that I would buy a USA PS3 for this game if it was all region encoded, best sports game since Winning Eleven and my fav PS3 game since JPN launch :D

Extra innings Dazzyman! Not overtime. ;)

Yep, there's a contact bonus/penalty if you guess right or wrong. Most players seem to guess every swing, which probably means there should be a stiffer penalty for sitting on the wrong pitch/location (as in actual baseball that usually translates to a pretty poor swing). I tend to play with guess off now for that reason, it's a bit more challenging. I like the mechanic though so I'm hoping they tweak this next game.

Correct. You're simply influence the angle of your swing before the pitch. It's mostly for sacrifice situations (attempting a sac fly, forcing a grounder to move the runner over etc). Since you're only affecting the angle of your swing it's not always going to give you the desired result, as the pitch itself dictates above all.

best sports game since Winning Eleven and my fav PS3 game since JPN launch :D

Agreed. :D

I've just hit the All Star break in my season. Having a blast. I play every game, and it's still so damned fun.

Cheers hukasmokincaterpillar much appreciated :)

Yea I can see myself disabling the pitch guess the more I get into it, but at least the game lets you do stuff like this so your not stuck with an easy game (well either that or I eventually move to All Star and then I have to guess 1 in 9 which is harder!). I do like the mechanics of it though as even if you do guess the side of 1-4 you still have to get the area right or risk flyballs and grounders so it isnt too broken or as HR friendly already for me as 2k7. I did miss rumble at first though but soon got past that.

I actually played it till 3am last night :lol

Can someone help me out with Road to the Show? I've been in triple A for at least 25 games now and I have a 350 average with a good amount of RBIs and whatnot but the manager's mood is still unhappy. How do I go about changing it and maybe moving up to the big leagues?

p.s. I LOVE this game.

Yeah that's one thing I really appreciate about TS, there's a nice bit of headroom for tweaking things as your skill level increases. I first started on Veteran mode with guess pitch, hotzone and strikezone, and now I'm using Hall of Fame with guess and both zones off. The difficulty is spot on and I haven't even messed with the sliders yet.

I might be wrong but I think the manager's mood relates to the team as a whole, not you specifically. With those numbers you could be getting called up soon, but it might depend on how deep your particular position is on the team (the main menu lists where you rank in the organization). Also try messing with some of the interaction options in the player menu (asked to be moved up in the lineup etc)

Well another full day on this (12am here), getting their now slowy just on Exhibitions but playing against top teams to get used to it more before I start a proper game (I always have played as Cardinals for a few years now) and managed to get a cracking diving catch earlier what made me squeal like a girl in delight :lol I still lost though with Giambi getting a 2 bases HR on 8th (was 2-1 to me till then) :( Understanding the Batting much more now and you can really nail some base hits when you guess the pitch right which seems a better tactic for me than going for what area.
