much better lighting and detail on everything. the shirt, the scoreboard, shadow on the building looks natural, light reflects off the field, etc. only reason it doesn't stand out more is because of depth of field. always hated dof.

There is an absolute difference problem is that it just inst that apparent.

I don't know if that's because the ps3 version looks so good and has held up well or if its because the ps4s version just isnt that much of a jump.

I mean the guy itself already looks way better on PS4, but just compare the backgrounds, it couldn't be any more obvious.

i don't think it helps that certain things actually looks better on the lower image. case in point. soft shadows cast on his face by his cap, unlike PS4 with harsh, solid shadows. lower image has a better looking shirt, more naturally folded, not like the PS4 which looks like something went wrong with soft body physics. the cap and face however look better on the PS4 version. and the environment is so DOF'd it's hard to even compare them.

much like all cross gen titles though, i expect the real showcase in visual updates when they drop the PS3 version. this...this is a mildly spruced up version of a previous gen title.

Any of that is completely irrelevant when you look at the aliasing on the PS3 version. Look at the top of the cap. The collar. The background too. It's a no contest imo.

Genuinely can't tell which version is supposed to be which. At first I assumed that the top version was the PS3, now looking at the building in the back I think the bottom version is the PS3 one.

The law of diminishing returns is here to stay...

EDIT: Went and looked up a photo of this guy. Top version is obviously PS4, he now looks far, far closer to what he should. I'm thinking it was the heavy focus blur that had me confused.

Gotta agree with this. Old gen version looks good enough to me, but next gen is better. The player looks like a different person, even down to bone structure in his nose. That was weird.

That said, these screenshots do not do the PS4 version any favours. with Sports games, they have to be in motion to be appreciated. Unlike other titles, Sport games tend to have a much higher level of facial detail, even on last generation hardware. Even still you can see a high level of increased detail and improved lighting in the PS4 pic.


The PS4 version is the top one.

First of all, how did you know I'm a hardcore Nintendo fan, lol. I've not been on Gaf very long.

Second of all, I'm also a hardcore PS fan and a big MLB The Show fan so it's not like I'm biased here. I will be buying the game for my PS4. I could see a huge difference between the two pics, I just couldn't say which one was supposed to be better.

If you can't tell the difference between these two pics, you need to see an ophthalmologist. Don't see an optometrist and go directly to the ophthalmologist as they are going to need to perform surgery on your eyes. You might also need to call your SO over to make sure the person playing in your child's room is actually your child.

I was going to bitch at you for not accepting that people have different standards (I personally have 20/20 vision, I've recently been to an optometrist) but the bolded was so funny that I'll let it go.

Top one is obviously PS4. Eyebrows look weird compared to the PS3 version. The extra detail and improved lighting is very impressive though.

I could tell which one was which by looking up a photo of the guy and seeing which version was more accurate; but it's a laughably bad example to show any sort of generational difference. At first I also thought the bottom version was the PS4 one due to the softer lighting on the guy's face.

Okay, maybe I'm poor at discerning graphical fidelity, but so what, I'm not a PC gamer. The real question we should be asking here is whether the Marlins will have throwback gear in this game. Did they in the last one? I didn't get that one. I'm unwilling to play as the Marlins in that shitshow they call a uniform.

Yeah I was blown away when I first saw trailers for that, and was even more impressed when I actually got it.

Fight Night for PS4/XBONE needs to happen...and multiplayer needs to be good.

The MLB pic looks good. Not too much difference in the backgrounds, but the character model for PS4 looks great. Definitely still thinking of picking this one up.

Tiny? At first glance you should notice: Better textures, higher quality player model, better cloth, better lighting, depth of field, higher quality environment.

I don't have an interest in baseball but seeing this shows me how a passionate developer can treat a sports game with the love it deserves, which makes me wonder what another developer would do with the Fifa license if EA didn't have the exclusive stranglehold on it.

I know its showing PS3 vs PS4 but the efforts in the PS4 are there to be seen and makes me upset that we're not getting that commitment to Fifa, and seeing NBA Live vs NBA 2K14 shows difference in love of the sport game versus EA with another developer challenging EA.

That was a poor photo to choose as in this particular photo the PS3 version looks the closest to the real thing. (The weak chin on the PS4 model ruins it in this particular comparison.) But in most other photos it does seem obvious that it's a far more accurate model on the PS4.

Either way, neither of the two 'game pics' here look really like the real guy.
