Yeah, the direct national seeds are totally fine, although I don't really get how the countries were chosen.
NA should've gotten fewer seeds and Asia more.

The only way I could rationalize it is that they made it based on units sales/number of b.net accounts instead of the actual quality of pro scene in said region.
Nope, groups leading into a single elimination bracket is the best system.
groups are only good for invitationals.
double elim is master race for open tournaments.

Yeah, groups takes too long for anything but really small tourneys. But the absolute best tournament format ever is a full round robin with the top half going into single elimination. Sadly you'd need a 4 day weekend to knock out a WCS doing it.

Groups into single elim and double elim brackets are good tournament modes. I played in and appreciate both.
It's when people insert additional group stages (Dreamhack), introduce meaningless pools (MLG), or undermine the double elim system by shit rules (MLG again) where things go bad.

Vibe and Scarlett are already qualified as US and CAN champs, respectively.
edit: I guess technically it'll be nine since both Vibe and Scarlett have already secured top 7 or better.
In a tournament like this, where it's not only the top spot that is the focus a loser bracket or something like that must be in effect.
Otherwise you could be the second best player in the tournament and finish last just because you faced the champ in the first game.
With this system everybody (including the one that wins it all) can afford one, and only one, loss and still make it to the top spot.

No SC2 tournament is really open, you need to buy player passes in advance which should make it easier to draw groups.

WCS is totally open from what I've gathered, all qualifications for the nationals has been through free to sign online tournaments.

What the hell is it going to take for an FPS to come closer to the likes of where CS was years ago, or even Halo 2 in regards to being high tier programs for MLG/WCG/ETC.
Especially with the highest selling games of this generation being FPS, it just seems weird that there's no standard or market for it.
