Modern Warfare 3 - Gameplay Trailer HD

Exactly. What exactly were people expecting?

We're 6+ years into the 360's life cycle... How much better are games going to look?
Gears 3 isn't even in the same universe when it comes to tech , but whatever.

Yes yes 30fps vs60 fps, won't change all the extra post processing effects, GI, pom, soft shadows, physics, AO etc that are supported by UE3.5 and other modern engines, but not by the IW engine.

Eh, complacency, what are you gona do.

Look at Gears of War. It's looked better with each entry. Could maybe, sorta, ish, say the same with Mass Effect. MW2 is probably the peak of the CoD series in terms of looks. We'll see how MW3 turns out in the end though I'm expecting not a whole lot different.

Comparing Gears 3 and MW is a little disingenuous, IMO... The 60 FPS is integral to the experience.

I predict 95% of E3 trailers will have INCEPTION HORN.

BRRRRRR!
BRRRRRR!
BRRRRRR!

These trailer creators have no imagination. Activision's done it twice now with Prototype 2.

"Truth be told, I don't see any possible way in which that comment can be rationally defended- Hence my anti-MW comment."

People have already given out reasons (including myself) for why they find the game to look like shit. Terrible image quality (even by console standards) and the incredibly lame cut scenes/set pieces on display. That's it, there's not really anything else shown in the trailer to comment on, because that's all it was. A bunch of cut scenes.

"If you told me that Super Mario on the NES looks better than MW3, I would not have the right to say that this comment is completely overblown?"

No one's saying this, though. A straw man is not a great way to defend your position.

"PS- I can understand the difference, chief. You can't believe that I am of the opinion that it's ridiculous that one could think this game looks like shit. I'd appreciate not being talked to like a 5 year old."

Incorrect, I can absolutely believe that. It is not uncommon for people to think that only their opinion can be valid.

If they want to sell MW3 to every casual human on the planet they should set up either their multiplayer reveal or launch trailer to be playing Rebecca Black's Friday.

You said: 'I responded directly to you having a problem with people having a negative opinion (even if extreme). Not to you thinking it looks great. I'm not sure why you can't understand the difference.'

I don't understand your reply... I think you misunderstood what I wrote.

And I don't think it's a straw-man argument. Saying something looks like shit implies that there are many examples of games that look vastly better. I don't see how that's possible, but you do.

We shall agree to disagree.

Fuck yes. Day 1 and day booked off.

I just hope to the Lord that MP isn't a complete fuckfest like MW:2 was.
Please make this more balanced like BLOPS, but don't make it a complete lagfest either.

"I don't understand your reply... I think you misunderstood what I wrote."

Look up the definition of unbelievable? The problem lies with you trying to stifle people with negative opinions (same with Mr_Brit).

Exaggerating the position of people that think it looks like shit and making a comparison to someone saying "Mario Bros. looks better." You don't think it's a straw-man argument? Oh boy.

"We shall agree to disagree."

This is really all there is to it and that was the core problem. You *weren't* agreeing to disagree.

Ditching the ancient engine would go a long way to get more out of the hardware as well as have better scaling for the pc version.

Ancient? The "lololol quake 3 engine" comments are fine for shit and giggles, but really, the current iteration of the engine that IW uses has seen lots of improvements over the years. They improve the code with every game, and it shows.

Not all of us buy cod on ps360, and not all of us give a damn about the console version.

Fair enough. However, for the better or the worst, the COD games are made with consoles as the main focus. And in that regard, the engine holds up pretty well next to pretty much any other PS360 FPS outer there (always keeping in mind the sacrifice in visual quality that the framerate of 60fps entails, of course).

People can hate on the action set-pieces all they want, but it's an integral part of the COD single player experience.

Plus, TRAINS!

Hate the 3's everywhere, reminds me of DRIV3R (urgh).
Trailer looks nice enough, that 3ngland part reminded me of The Getaway.
Is that lone soldier in the tunnel supposed to be Ghost? No doubt he'll defy death again.
It looks to be the MW2 engine, thank christ it doesn't look like Blops.
Will do my annual day 1 veteran run, there had better be some co-op.
Really hope they bring back the chaos of MW2's multiplayer, with a few tweaks. Blops MP was not for me.

Stifle. Please tell me how I attempted to 'stifle' anyone. By saying something is unbelievable I'm stifling someone? Interesting.

No point in us continuing this conversation. Have a nice day.

Looks like everything I've begun to hate about recent FPS design. Overemphasis on set-pieces over proper level design, lot's of exciting things happening in the background that can't be interacted with in any way, a load of mixed up environments with little continuity. Not to mention the unupdated graphics engine that is seriously showing its age. While graphics aren't everything, the least they could do is clean up the image quality a bit and hire some decent artists.

I hate to say its all about the multiplayer since I find that direction to be detrimental and cause the software to lose much of its worth, but that seems to be the case with a lot of modern FPSes now. I will wait for proper MP footage, but it will take a massive effort to get me interested in this game and even this series now.

What was so bad about it?The flares on everything made the lighting stand out way more plus it has the best breakable glass this gen imo, everything else looked identical to me.

judging by this shot it has the flares from Blops which is good.

Sorry, I meant to say I'm glad it doesn't look like the Blops engine.
I'm talking about Multiplayer on 360 though. I guess I shouldn't really compare MW3 single player footage to Black Op's multiplayer when it's single player was fine.
Should wait for some MW3 MP footage.
Graphics, Sound and Hit Detection in Blops MP are inferior to MW2 IMO. There's nothing really bad about BLOPS MP graphics, it just didn't seem as sharp or clear to me as MW2.

Looks great to me! I'll be getting this day 1 on the 360. It's a yearly tradition at this point and I always look forward to it. I can't wait to see the different special editions. They're always crazy.

The real question is will MW3 continue the CoD trend of breaking sales records or will the series finally level off? I honestly thought Blops wouldn't do as well as MW2, but boy was I wrong. I'm thinking MW3 will set yet another record for the series.

Oh yeah, I think it will break new records again and it will be very amusing to watch people rage at it for doing so.

I don't care about the graphics, since they look good enough for me.

The only think i care about now is the enemy AI on the singleplayer.

I would like to see some sandbox combat on this CoD.

Looks hot. I love me some linear, action heavy, Michael Bay style FPS fun.

I also hope someone releases something of the non-linear variety with more team focused combat this year.

If i was shown this trailer before MW2 id be excited but it doesn't really get me to pumped for single player to be honest. Maybe because we have seen gamplay form BF3 its appealing alot more right now. This war will be won on multiplayer, i love my cod but i'm really hoping they shake things up on the MP front, blow me away.

anyone saying it looks shit are just retarded, it looks great just not to original anymore.

This, until I see more it's just a huge mess of very unattractive set pieces.

I remember when people's minds were blown by how good COD4 looked. The series hasn't improved much since then and could use a touch up but it certainly doesn't look bad at all.

I can't see the series declining until they start releasing at least 2 titles per year, or if Activision pulls some super ridiculous DLC shenanigans.

I'm retarded then :(.

Holy shit, this looks awesome.

But I'm the most ass backwards of COD fans: I don't play multiplayer and I have loved the single player of MW1 and MW2. This looks to be just as much fun.

BLOPS and MW:2 and MW:3 all will use the same engine.

Just when I think I'm finally done with CoD, they pull me right back in. Really hoping the AC130 makes it back in as a killstreak. By far my favorite in the series.

Is just... there is a big leap missing on COD.

The base engine is the same, but they are modified in different ways. They are not 100% the same...
Yeah didn't IW add some kind of streaming technology for extra detail in MW2 that was absent in BLOPS? I'm sure I saw Zampella talking about it on a video somewhere...
I'd like to see Harry Gregson-Williams return for MW3. Hans Zimmer did a great job on MW2 but I do prefer Cod4's music. Mr Gregson-Williams does some seriously awesome work.

Infinity Ward didn't want to share the engine improvements they made for MW2 with Treyarch, that's why BLOPs looks worse.

Respect for Kotick for being able to sell a map pack for $60 and still make billions.

Yeah a map pack with a full budget single player, co-op, new weapons/perks, and new game modes along with the maps and balance tweaks.

Come on son....

The graphic whores seriously needs to shut their traps and find a completely different game. 60 FPS is one of the main traits of the engine and our current consoles are so fucking slow, we won't get both the FPS and "Uhhh pretty graphics". I'm definitely Gameplay > Graphics in this case and no, the engine doesn't look as bad as people make it out to be.

Yeah, that trailer looked pretty good actually. It looked better than I expected it to be. And running @ 60 fps on a console is the ultimate win.

I honestly don't see how anyone can say this game looks like shit. It may not be bf3 in the graphics dept but it is bu no means shit. Looks pretty fucking good IMO. But then again I am a cod whore. Day 1 for me.
