Molyneux - Fable: The Journey demo 'a horrendous mistake'

Photoshoppers, a gift.

So basically through all the interviews, demos, etc he just failed to mention how they ripped out the entire navigation mechanic for the sake of the demo?

Great stuff... lol

Why do people still take this guy seriously? Everything he's ever shown is always something he stood behind until people saw it, then every fucking time the dude backpedals and was like "yea it wasn't exactly what we wanted". This guy needs to disappear. Go away.

Also this:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-16-molyneux-sorry-if-ive-over-promised

"I could name at least 10 features in games that I've made up to stop journalists going to sleep and I really apologise to the team for that."

The result was the horse and buggy navigational method of Fable: The Journey. It involves holding your arms out like holding reigns, and reaching your arms slightly forward left or right independently to move in that direction along a path. To move the horse forward or speed up, you simple "whip down" with both hands. Fable: The Journey will even use voice recognition, and you can teach your horse to recognize your voice by saying something like "C'mon, girl" to get her moving. By the same token, you can even be as nasty as you want to the poor creature to get her to respond.

hahahahah

The demo we saw was direct, almost -- dare I say it -- on rails. But as Molyneux explained earlier, that's simply a product of having to give a refined demo in a short period of time. While we didn't see it, he explains that you'll be able to weave through mazes and tunnels, head of in various directions, and choose your own paths as you move through the world on your horse.

hahahah

Someone forgot to write "this is just a small part of the game. Its open world." on the teleprompter.

Fable was slowly becoming a linear, on-rails sort of game anyway.

There isn't much more that PM can do to hold your hand while playing. I'm still waiting for the "instant win" button.
Unfortunately, to use the instant win button you must first have your character stand in a corner for 10 hours while money collects from owning every property in the game, or else you get the worst ending in the history of video games.

Will anyone be surprised if this is the usual doublespeak bullshit Molyneux feeds us ever since he became such a hack?

On Giantbomb they were talking about how he was trying to get journalists to sign something saying that it wasn't on-rails when he demoed it to them, haha.

It sure looked on-rails to me.

Holy shit why isn't this bigger news? lol

It's not on rails anymore after he's seen all of the negative buzz around it, I guess.

It'll still be on rails, there's no other choice with Kinect. You'll just be able to choose right on left in your path and other useless bullshit like that.

not a contract or anything.

he just wrote "its no on rails" on a white board and told people to sign there name under it so they get it.

its still pretty silly.

It's not on rails. It's a guided experience.

I'd never buy a house from Peter Moleneux.

"No potential homeowner, this isn't just a lounge, its a LIVE EXPERIENCE SUITE, in which you can make choices that will control your destiny. And if you'll follow me into this part of the PALACE, I can show you the future. Whereas most inferior dwellings have to manage with a mere bathroom, this majestic CLEANSING SANCTUM provides immediate access to life giving water, and no good sir we don't have anything so mundane as a toilet, in this holy place we have a FLUSHABLE NEGATIVITY EXPULSION THRONE..."

I can't imagine how it must feel to have your reputation go from genius to liar.

I still think its on rails though. How do you leave out that you castrated your game for the demo?

First off, that's not a whiteboard - Molyneux just decided to start writing on the wall.

Second, from listening to the Bombcast, it sounds like he was pressuring journalists to agree with him and sign the wall. Not all that were asked did however.

Fable Journey was the worst game of the show so yes you should regret showing this stupid on-rails "it plays alone" piece of crap Peter...

I take back my hate Peter.

Now get a better demo going and get the word out.

(The out of wagon stuff still looks like shitty shit "gameplay" though)

Pathetic.

This is hilarious and sad.
It's becoming increasingly clear that the man is a compulsive liar. I've been saying this for years but the Molyneux defence force is always there to point out that no, he's just overenthusiastic, he just points out features that they're experimenting with before it's clear they can implement them...whatever.
"I made an horrendous mistake on the press demo on taking out the navigation allowing players to move"
I think it would take quite a bit of effort to remove a feature like that. And if he really did...why remove that feature? How bad must the controls be that he would rather demonstrate an on-rails segment than differentiate his game from every other Kinect demo at the conference?
This is just bald faced lying.

Wow, that's amazing.
So when you look at this video here...

It's clear that he was trying to get them to provide testimony in order to build his argument that it wasn't on-rails. Look at them on that whiteboard! Cute.
Do you have a link to where they said that on Giantbomb? Was it during the livestream?

It's not on rails guys, it's more like a road that you can't get off of.
He actually said something along these lines during the Gametrailers live demo.
Geoff asked if it was open world or just on rails, and Molyneux replied, "it's...it's...open world as much as open world as a road is."

You can chose from branching paths every now and again. That does not stop it from being on-rails.

How embarassing that this man spoke at TED last year.

Lots of public regret over this E3... Molyneux regretting Fable showing, Iwata regretting Wii U controller showing, that Square Enix exec regretting their lack of Japanese content...
Shows how disconnected the industry has become from it's audience

Wow@mob mentality.

I guess that if Peter Molyneux said that the earth is not flat, then he would be called a liar for that to. :)

Didnt he say that he says alot of untrue things about his games on purpose though?
